Comments about Alesis JamDock iPod Dock with Line and Instrument Inputs for Musicians:

i bought this for my webcasts. i was using a y-cable from the ipod to my mixer, but the cable was always coming detached during the webcast because i was constantly using the ipod to change songs. this product solved the problem because it is stationary and the volume knob works better than the ipod's. the sound is perfect. my listeners are always amazed at the quality of my broadcasts. i have not yet used it in conjunction with the guitar input, but that is not why i got it. i plug this into a USB mixer (Mackie) and then everything goes into my computer for live webcasting. so this thing is perfect. i have other Alesis products and they never disappoint. they seem to have a niche on certain things. my main reverb unit is the "Wedge" which i use on all my recordings. i also have the "MasterLink" for making master recordings. i have had it for more than 10 years.

Comments about Alesis JamDock iPod Dock with Line and Instrument Inputs for Musicians:

Got this free with a DM10. Great idea, but it does not work. I have an iPod Classic, and iPod was plenty loud, actually too loud. I couldn't control volume on the iPod itself only through the master volume control. Barely adjusting the master volume control, say 5-10%, it was extremely loud! It washed out the DM10, and when I did get the DM10 loud enough it was EXTREMELY distorted. Thought I had a bad unit but Alesis support gave me the run around, suggested the unit was perfectly fine, and I did not know how to adjust the volume controls! Clearly I can operate two knobs. Unhappy about this unit, I now question ever purchasing any Alesis products in the future. Also wish it would have came with the percussion mount for the drum rack.

Comments about Alesis JamDock iPod Dock with Line and Instrument Inputs for Musicians:

Finally a way to practice along with my IPOD; Without ten miles of cables and adapters! Allow you to play with IPOD and charge at the same time.Jam-Dock allows guitar input, with volume controls....Only negative is 1/4" headphone jack, instead of more "common & popular" mini-jack(1/8"). easily fixed with a trip to [...] for a $3.00 adapter. Jam-Dock easily mounts to my music stand to keep IPOD close by!

        Not bad, but not great.

        Pros

        • Simplicity

        Cons

        • Can't use batteries
        • Lack of volume control

        Best Uses

        • Headphone Amp

Comments about Alesis JamDock iPod Dock with Line and Instrument Inputs for Musicians:

I ordered this to use as a headphone amp to practice my bass along to my Ipod. While it works, it could be better. First, the guitar input volume is not loud enough. If you turn it up to far, it begins to distort. If you turn it down to cut the distortion, you can't hear it over the music. Second, the volume control of the Ipod is only accomplished with the "Master Volume" control. You can no longer use the click wheel to turn down the music and get a nice mix of you and the music. I have not yet used it to run the ipod into a mixing board or anything like that...but as a headphone amp it is just OK.
