I read about expensive shot gun microphones and cheap static sounding 1 channel wireless analog microphone kits. After researching this kit I'm blown away by the performance. I have seen heard videos online where the subject had to be almost 700 feet away before the connection got scrambled. At that distance a pine tree was what caused this. Frequency response was not available on the Sony site I visited but another review of the ECM-HW2 claimed it's 300 - 9000 Hz, still the sound characteristics beats 80% of what I see/hear online. The mixing function is very useful in its implementation and allow your subject and you to communicate during a shoot, something you wouldn't be able to achieve "the conventional way". This unit does not replace the Zoom H2 by any means but it certainly replaces my need for an expensive on board shotgun microphone for most upcoming projects, which, again wouldn't be nearly as flexible as this solution, a solution that I won't even own until later this week.

The ECM-HW2 works great on my older Sony DVD camcorder 403, it has excellent voice capture on the DVD and the microphone while larger than typically desired is great! We hook it to the waist area and it picks up conversation very well. When I called to ask if it would fit my older camcorder, the person said it should, but if it did not to go ahead and return it no problem. Well it worked and your customer service was great. The CSR agent had to go into the pdf file and review it to see what it said. Thanks a bunch and I will use your company again!

Hi folks. I have tried several other wireless (RF) microphones and they were useless. Their main problem was loss of signal when the person wearing microphone (the subject) moved. The result was loss of voice and gain of static... totally unacceptable.

This Sony ECM-HW2 BLUETOOTH model has none of these faults. The voice quality is excellent and with my Sony Handycam allows me several options. For example, I (the camera person) can either include my own voice or not in the recording. What's more when the the subject has their earpiece in I can talk to them without it being recorded. This is so useful when you are filming a seminar for example and you are out of earshot. You can give them cues, instructions, etc. without anyone else hearing. You can also hear the subject through your headset that is plugged in to the system... it is like having a walkie-talkie.

In a nutshell, this is a GREAT product. And B&H Photo gave the best price and excellent service. I live in Australia and my ECM-HW2 was delivered in just 4 days.

Used to have voice far away from camera
First this is a mono microphone not a 5.1
the center channel comes from this microphone where the other channels come from the camera microphone
one battery lasts about 701 minutes

It's not rocket science to install and use the product. Partially this is due to pricise instructions. Product works as exspected. Purchase and execution was professinal and fast.

Just purchased this product to be used for interviews at events, and it works perfectly. Loud soud in the background did not effect the individual's interview. Because it is small and wireless it is so easy to quickly set it up and start recording. No problems with the wireless function connecting to the piece on the video camera. This mic fixed all of our interview problems of the past.

I did research before buying this microphone and it's really the best one out there. The distance you can be from the receiver is amazing! It's crystal clear, tiny and goes well with my Sony HDR CX-560V . Another great thing about it is the options you have, you can record. You can record the other person only or record at the receiver mic. and the lapel mic. and at 5.1 or mono. Trust me, i'm particular, get one and you will love it!

I have had this mic for less than a month now and have done over 20 interview vids and 2 weddings. For both it works awesome. Audio is much clearer than even using my shotgun mic that I have.

It is useful to record meetings with good and clear sound. It filters the noise of the room being the microphone close to the speaker

Used this to record a golf clinic with camera 20 yards away in lots of wind and worked better than I could imagine....Can't believe I found it.

IT's as good as it get...I had a problem filming near a 18 wheeler truck but this mic did the trick.

This microphone captures sound really well from a distance, but sometimes has a little clarity problem when picking up a group of voices.

works great on my Sony camcorder. Only issue is the mic is so large that it is extremely conspicuous. Works best when I can place the mic on a solid object rather than attached to someone.

This is one great product and I'm very glad that I bought it. I also have the ECM-HW1 microphone and this ECM-HW2 is definitely a big improvement on the previous model. Very great product and highly recomended. Very clear voice recording

The mic appears to consume its AAA battery very quickly. I used the mic in a couple of tests that might have used up 30-45 minutes. When it came time to video for real, I couldn't get the mic and receiver to connect. I replaced the mic battery and problem solved. I would have thought it would have lasted at least a couple of hours. A low battery indicator would be nice.

Also the selector switch on the side of the receiving unit is stiff, causing the camcorder (on a tripod) to move while trying to manipulate the switch.
