With exceptional digital surround sound, HD video upconversion, the JVC XV-N680 DVD Player (Black) brings your home theater experience to a whole new level without breaking the bank. High resolution DVD imagery is achieved with progressive scan technology, 14-Bit video DAC processing, and the ability to upconvert your DVDs to a 720p, 1080i and 1080p Full HD experience. It features HDMI and component video outputs, and offers support for DVD-Video, DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W, SVCD, and VCD discs. To help re-create the thrill and realism of today's movie soundtracks at home, it offers 192KHz/24-bit processor, Dolby Digital and DTS audio decoding; it's capable of reproducing an enveloping audio signal that is unsurpassed when connected to your home theater receiver via the unit's digital and coaxial digital connections.
Though it's an excellent DVD player, it can also be used as a CD, MP3, WMA audio player and it offers JPEG slideshow viewing with music. You could actually use the XV-N680 to share your favorite songs and photos with friends and family at your next gathering. In addition, it offers fast scan, multi-camera angle, multi-language, multi-subtitle support, auto power off, screen saver, and on-screen GUI display. - This unit is capable of upconverting 1080p HD video signals out through the HDMI output. This advanced digital output enables the player to carry high-definition video information through a single cable.

- This is a progressive scan DVD player, capable of scanning an entire video frame at once; scan-lines commonly associated with interlaced video are drastically reduced. I purchased this player in order to reduce the usage & abuse on my more expensive DVD burner.
We use this player for everything now. DVDs that were stuttering on my DVD burner are playing beautifully on this player. It's simple and does exactly what it's suppose to do. I also like that the unit is half the depth of other players. The only feature I find a bit annoying is that the unit seems to turn itself off if not in use for a while. It's just a matter of waiting for the unit to start up & load again.

I have only tried it with region 1 DVDs, but it has played them without problem. The price was very reasonable. It's a slim, compact package. I expect it to perform without problems, and so far it has, but it's only a week old. My only complaint is that an HDMI cable is not included in the package, but there were RCA cables.
