Comments about Vivitar 85mm f/1.4 Series 1 Manual Focus Lens for Sony Alpha & Minolta Maxxum:

At f/1.4 this lens is plenty bright with only a whisper of DOF. Fortunately, my Sony body has interchangeable focus screens; even at 1.4 this lens is difficult to focus with the standard (aerial) screen. Sony doesn't help much here; such lenses don't activate the focusing sensors at all, so there's no focus confirmation. Apertures other than f/1.4 are really annoying. The diaphragm is manual but at this price the designers should have included a preset ring just like the good ol' days of preset lenses. Build quality seems reasonably solid for the hefty amount of glass.
