When I first saw this product, I thought it seemed a bit pricey. However, for video work, a dolly is a great tool, so I went ahead and bought it. I can now say that it is entirely worth the money. The dolly is compact, relatively light, and it moves extremely smooth -- even carrying my 10lb+ camera set-up. The wheels are large, and very high-quality. Overall, I was very impressed, because although the dolly looks simplistic, it works wonders for your work.

The dolly works great for about 15-20 minutes of use, then the wheels begin to loosen from the mounts, and they catch on the track. If you are shooting short segments, and have time to adjust the wheels after each take, this dolly system will give you some amazing results. We, however, film live stage events, and it's impractical to stop shooting, remove the tripod, and tighten 6 individual wheels.

This product is well designed and very clever and with a number of feature improvement's that over time have made it very cool..
For example - The way it has slots and locking pins that loads and locks the tripod legs tightly, the easy tracking on 2 inch pvc pipe is far superior to a glide cam and even off the pipe even on wooden floors it slides easily and opens up so many more shots.. Because you can adjust the height and it travels like you are walking with it and the clips have that look.. Next load it up with the Cobra crane Backpacker and you have something. Very cool!!

Comments about CobraCrane 5237 Tracking Dolly without Track:
I am a professional photographer who is beginning the adventure in to the video world and selected this based mainly on price.
I chose to make my own track out of 2"PVC pipe instead of buying the kit. (It is much cheaper to do it yourself)
The dolly is everything that was promised. It fits the 2" PVC perfectly and is as smooth as can be.The PVC track allows for quick and easy assembly and take down.
I took one star off only because the method used to secure the tripod legs to the dolly is a little clunky.
Other than that - I highly recommend this for beginners and professionals.

This added the little accent to my video that keep it more visually interesting. This was for me the perfect solution for me being that I like being mobile and dont like to carry alot of equipment.Easy to use, easy to assemble. You can use any tripod and lock in the legs. I did have to loosen and agjust some of the wheel gides and wheels to get them perfectly angled. TRACK: I went to [@] bought and cut 5 foot sections of 2 inch PVC but I recommend cutting them into 3 feet section because I had issues fitting the 5 foot sections in the trunk of my car. I also bought 2 inch flush inside coupling to join the PVC sections. I also cut (saw) slits throught all pipes were they join because they fit extremely tight and was alot a trouble breaking down. These slits made it easier for me to slide each pipe into eachother without haveing to fight and held everything place very snug. To keep the PVC from rolling in just bought 2 inch 90 degree elbow joints. I didnt join the tracks because that just more stuff to carry and elbow kept the track from moving around.

I use the dolly in the field and find it to be super smooth and easy to use. I bought two 10' sections of 2" PVC at [...], two elbows, a 4' section for a spacer ($20) and I was off and running.

Comments about CobraCrane 5237 Tracking Dolly without Track:
This is a perfect track for filmmakers with a low budget. It glides perfectly and is as quiet as they come. It is light and easy to travel with as long as you can put pvc pipes in your car or transportation vehicle. The only down side is that you can't be pushed on it so pulling focus and panning/tilting are a bit harder. That is standard though for those types of dollies because ones with those capabilities are more expensive and harder to travel with. For the price and the look it delivers I give it two thumbs up!

Add 2" PVC tracks that you can buy from pretty much any hardware store. In Sweden I picked them up for 30$. A bargain.
Easy assembly, stable, smooth=crisp video.
