I've had my camera for about 10 months and was real happy with it until last week.
One day I left the camera recording for about 2 hours. It was plugged into a wall outlet. When I was done it would not shut off so I pulled the plug. I plugged it back in to review my recording and found that only 20 minutes had recorded. (32GB SDHC class 6 card) It also no longer operates on the battery. I was unable to move through the video index to review older videos. I have since copied off all of the videos and formatted the SD card again. The SD card seems fine.
The guy helping me via email from Aiptek tech support has been fairly helpful although he is suggesting that the SD card and the Battery may be bad. Both went bad at the same time. Hmmmm. The SD card was purchased new at the time I bought the camera - it is an ADATA card. He is recommending only use the SanDisk Standard card - not Ultra or Extreme.
I'm going to purchase a new SD card and battery to see if that helps. Hopefully I can update this review as I go.
If the camera is still not operating correctly after replacing the SD card and Battery I'll find out what Aiptek says.
As far as the operation of the camera I've been real happy. The only beef I have is when I plug it into my TV to review videos there is very limited playback options. Basically you can play or stop. If you want to fast forward you have to hold down the joystick button. This is a big pain if you have a 2 hour video you want to scroll through.
I'm sure you're thinking that I should download the video clips to my computer and play them back there but I only have a Mac PowerPC G4 and a PC Dell Inspiron 8600 and neither will play back the videos so I'm stuck for now reviewing them on my TV and saving the ones I want to keep for the day when I upgrade one of my computers.

We use this Camcorder for home movies, travels, and to document some drivers training activities.
The Camcorder has clear and sharp image in daylight. Color saturation is good. The Camcorder is very small and easy to use. Although the controls are not intuitive, they are easy to learn and use. Battery life is good and we get over 1 hour of recording with the screen brightness set at 3. The movies are easy to move to a PC and are easily played with the included Quicktime player.
The compression engine is slow so if the Camcorder is panned or moved rapidly, or not steadily held by hand, the movie is very hard to watch and can make some nauseous. All is fine with a tripod. The included tripod is nice but too small and does on clamp to other things. The movement effect is quite pronounced in 1080P, 30 FPS. In 720P, 60 FPS, with stability on, the movie is better but still difficult to watch. 720P, 30 FPS is just a little better than 1080P. In the lowest resolution, all is fine, but then, why buy a High Definition Camcorder? The contrast is a little low. The movie is quite noisy in low light situation. The 5MP camera function is not as good as a stand-alone cheap 5MP camera.
We will most likely give this to our 5 year old when he turns 6. It is worth the price we paid.

Comments about Aiptek Action-HD GVS 1080p HD Camcorder (Silver/Black):
I bought this for a trip to a theme park. I intended to capture video of some of the shows. For daytime shots, the camera is very good. I tried different modes and decided to stick with the 720 30 fps mode. The quality of the video and audio was acceptable to my standards.
The operation of the camera was pretty straight forward. I was recording and taking photos in no time. One button to take photos, one button to take videos and one button to view the media (you can't get much easier than that).
Some of the problems I noticed happened while I was using the digital zoom. The jumps between each step of the zoom where really palpable...so I stop using it. The battery consumption was about an hour when filming sequences (as long as I didn't use the zoom a lot). The night shots were ok to me. I didn't expect much out of it. I decided to process them in a video editing program.
The audio throughout the videos were ok also.
I used a class 6 sdhc card (which gave me about 4 and a half hours of video).
The best use for this camera would be in well lighted situations...preferably outside.
There are probably better cameras out there...but for the price and features offered in this one you won't find a lot of them.

Comments about Aiptek Action-HD GVS 1080p HD Camcorder (Silver/Black):
I bought this for my eleven year old for making amateur videos. He is happy with it, which counts for as much as my opinion. I bought it knowing some negatives from other reviews--quite poor in low light, some lag in movement in high def recording, and not the grand image of a more expensive camera. However, the picture is adequately sharp, it's compact, and the microphone input for sound clarity is great--and hard to find in this price level. We use portable lights to enhance indoor lighting--if you are mostly indoors without options to add light--this could be the wrong camera. As a professional, it would not suit me even for amateur use, yet for my son, I consider is a good choice for his projects & enjoyment.

The move quality on this wasn't even as good as the quality on my casio exilim 8.1 mega pixels camera. If you don't have any other type of digital camera it'd be ok, but if you are looking to take any type of good videos I'd say spend the extra money on something better.

I mainly use this camera for You Tube related short films. It's light, compact and the image quality is well worth it. Basically, you get what you pay for but with a little extra bang for the buck. Couldn't live without the microphone in, although it would have been nice to have some monitoring and a headphone jack. Overall great product!

The picture indoors is a little dark, and the size is just a little wider than the previous model on the top, but much skinnier on the bottom. I have used the previous model at length so I was just looking for an upgrade. Much bigger screen - haven't put it through its paces yet, but at first glance it's a great cheap camera.

I bought this for my wife for family stuff. Outdoors with plenty of light the 720 60 frame video looks nice. Some lag with a lot of camera movement. Problem is indoors. It is nearly worthless in available light. So all the indoor footage looks very dark. For that reason, I would not suggest this camera. Seems odd these days with so many fast chips in handheld cameras that this is so slow.

Nice cheap little camera. I wouldn't recommend it for a lot of use but it's good for an occasional quick video. Battery life isn't even a full hour of recording. Feels really cheap and wouldn't hold up if dropped. It is simple to use and does have good qaulity sound and video. Still pictures are also ok, not the best though.

Easy to use, great video quality.
Only two negatives are:
Lacks High Quality Low light production
Wish the casing of the camera felt more solid.
All in all though the camera does everything I needed out of the Expensive HD camcorders, but at roughly 1/5 of the price.

Comments about Aiptek Action-HD GVS 1080p HD Camcorder (Silver/Black):
I purchased this camera as a cheap vacation camera and for in-car video on the race track. At this price point you expect compromise. In this case the good outweighs the bad.
The good news is the camera takes good video, is small enough to carry everywhere and has decent battery life. It also comes with a case, mini tripod and remote.
The bad news is the autofocus is very very slow. It is also awkward to hold (but you kind of get used to this). Button placement is such that you may hit them by mistake and the zoom requires 2 hands to operate smoothly while filming.
Improvements, for me, would be faster autofocus, threading for a wide angle adapter (or a wider lens to begin with), stronger tripod mount, better placement of buttons (especially the zoom button), ability to disable the toggle switch, ability to film with screen closed, better low light performance and a place to attach the lens cover while in use.

Comments about Aiptek Action-HD GVS 1080p HD Camcorder (Silver/Black):
This product is lightweight and easy to use. The picture taking feature requires some practice or you will get blur. It is set so close-up that you can't film much unless you are a good distance away from the action. The audio is less than stellar and on playback does not match the lip movement. Also, it is not very good in low light. The price is right though and if you are shooting in ideal conditions and don't want to lug around more than the size of a deck of cards, it's great. The best part for me is it downloads to my MAC instantaneously which was the most important feature on my shopping list.

Comments about Aiptek Action-HD GVS 1080p HD Camcorder (Silver/Black):
I bought this camera, primarily to document the remaining years of the life of my dog. I researched similar camcorders before deciding on this particular model, finding the reviews mixed on all of them. I have so far been pleased with the purchase. The camcorder has already been used to film clips of my dog at home, at the beach, and also at a local outdoor music concert, with clips uploaded to FaceBook and YouTube. The output direct from the camera is usually acceptable, but with decent editing software, the image quality can be improved to the level that it looks great on a 46" hdtv. Of the complaints I saw before purchasing, I agree that the low light level performance is extremely poor and I haven't been able to detect any difference in quality when using the stabilization feature. Also this camcorder isn't exactly comfortable in the hand, as the pistol grip is too thick. All in all, for a sub-$200 camera, the image quality really impresses me, and the portability makes keeping it close easy. I would purchase again.

I haven't compared the GVS against other camcorders, but it did everything it was supposed to do. Color saturation was a bit weak, menus fairly easy to get around in, LCD display good. What forced to me return it is that the case had a lot of flex when mounted on a suction cup mount which I was planning to used for autocross video. The case moved severely from side to side, I was disappointed because I really liked the camera and its features, still trying to decide what to get instead.

I bought this camera to supplement a couple standard resolution cameras for multi-camera YouTube videos. The HD wasn't at all on par with my low end standard resolution cameras. They are far superior to this. I suggest it's okay as a nice toy for kids but that's about it.
