The Domke 720-250D Digital SLR Camera Insert is designed to fit any Domke bag that has a standard 4-compartment insert. It has walls that are sewn to the bottom, so items won't move around. This insert is designed to carry a digital SLR camera, extra lenses, and/or strobe units and accessories.

Make no mistake, this insert is *B*I*G*. Somehow I thought it would fit easily /together/ with the standard insert into my F-1X "little bit bigger" Domke bag. Reality check: it does not.
Quality is standard Domke, although it might be easy to mix up features with "sloppy construction". Yes, the bottom of the inserts is open. So you can remove the padding if you don't want it, or add extra if needed.
There's no padding at the bottom, but the larger Domke bags (this insert does not fit in an F-2) have a bottom board anyway, so who cares?
For extra protection, and because the room is there; my camera sits on the strap and some other small stuff (airblower, etc). The two pouches at the left side (on the picture) seem custom made for my strobes and the lens pockets on the right side are big enough to hold a 70-200/2.8 lens.
If you like to carry your camera in your Domke bag with a lens attached, this insert is a must-have.
Keep in mind that the Domke philosophy requires some care from your side. There's protection against bumping into objects, not against dropping the bag from the bed of you truck. Within that scope it's an excellent product.

a camera insert which can turn a backpack or messenger bag into a camera bag is a good thing. but this domke insert misses the mark--badly. the foam is very light padding, one layer of foam backed with a layer of what seems to be styrofoam. the styrofoam is removeable, but i'm not sure why. why would you want less padding? i guess you could insert thicker padding, but that's something domke should have provided--especially at this price. because of this flawed design, the sides are not closed, and the foam always seems like its going to come out. it will give some protection, but strangely, there is no layer of styrofoam at the bottom, which is where any impact is likely to occur. what da flock? even more maddening, there's no way to put another layer of protection on the underneath, unless you take out one of the dividers and put it on the bottom, which still wont cover the entire bottom area. you can reconfigure the compartments as expected, but this is overpriced and feels kind of cheaply-constructed. there are better camera inserts made by Tenba, Mountainsmith, and BBP bags, all of which cost less and offer superior protection and higher-quality design. only get this if you already have a domke bag. this is going back.

Comments about Domke Digital SLR Camera Insert (Green):
This is the perfect insert for the F2 bag and in my opinion should replace the standard 4-compartment. Fits my 5D mk2, 24-105L, 50mm 1.4 and 430EX with room for another lens or two (if the flash moves into a side pocket). Well made and tough. I would have liked it to be available in black but otherwise it's a worthwhile purchase.

Comments about Domke Digital SLR Camera Insert (Green):
It fit well to my F-2. Some may still prefer a classic Domke lens insert and put a body directly without a good protection. That should be a traditional usage of Domke product. This inserst, however, change it into an ordinary camera bag with flexible dividers. It is very good to have both and change it depend on what we carry.

I have always used my Domke bag since purchasing from B&H around 1984. This new DSLR insert has given new life to this product. The outside, though worn canvas, has held up amazingly well all these years. Now my DSLR fits!!!

Fits perfectly in the Domke F2 so I can carry my D90 plus 80-200 with hood attached. Put the dividers in when using smaller lenses. Much better than the half insert that came with the bag.

Used this insert in a small patagonia bag, very fexible and dividers are fully adjustable. Only problem is bottom is not padded if you don't have padding in the bag in which you are inserting it.

The quality is great like all Domke, but the description is wrong, as it does not "fit any Domke bag that has a 4-compartment insert (for instance my F-6), so look at the measurements before purchase because descriptions don't tell the whole story. If not for the description 5-stars it would be...

was hoping it would hold a 5Dmk2 with a grip and 24-70 and some other stuff but it was a tad small. Good construction and would work for a smaller system or with the 50mm mounted on the body.

In using this insert to more adequately pad an existing bag, I'm impressed with the functionality of it. The Velcro is sturdy and makes customization easy. I've fit three lenses and a nikon body with grip and lens attached in and feel very comfortable about the protection offered.
As always, Domke gear is durable and functionally adaptable.

Most camera bags are costly and look tacky. Domke products are somewhat affordable and don't scream tourist.
This holds my critical gear without being overly padded.

I paired this with an F-2 Domke bag, it is just right for my DSLR, three lenses and a meter, there is no padding in the bottom, but the sides are reasonably padded, and the bottom padding insert in the f-2 is adequate.
For my purposes the combination of the f-2 and this insert created a near perfect every day carry bag

This insert is perfect for a small dSLR with attached prime lens and a couple of extra prime lenses. It's a wee bit large for a Domke F-2, and as usual with Domke inserts the product has no protection on the base. Safrotto are still making the best inserts for these type of bags.

I bought this to replace the standard 4 compartment insert along with a large 2 wide insert I was using in my F-2 bag. The fit in the F-2 was tight but it allows me to get my D300 with MB-10 Battery Grip and lens to fit comfortably now (couldn't fit it in with lens before), plus my flash and 3 other lenses (nothing huge though). I love it, haven't been tempted to switch back at all.

I went to [...] to check out the Domke F2 'Ruggedwear' bag. It was a silly Canadian price and I wasn't really happy with the level of padding that came with the bag. The box style nylon insert can take four items (flash/lenses) but then my 5d2 and lens were just rattling around. I saw the SLR insert on the B+H website and ordered it.The insert is great. It will take 2 flashes, two lenses and the 5d2 with a lens. You can squeeze a lens into one of the flash pockets but it does cramp things a bit. It takes up the whole of the F2 but I'm much happier that my gear is well padded now. My only issue is that the original insert is now pretty much not needed. Perhaps Domke should give a choice on inserts and adjust the price accordingly.

I replaced the standard "4 box" insert in my F2 bag with this insert. It makes the bag much more useful to me. It is larger than the stock insert. It takes up the entire F2 bag interior.

I have used several Domke inserts in different bags over the years. I am using this one in a Tenba wheeled wedding case. It is holding three Turbo batteries, chargers and few other misc. items to stop them from bouncing around in the case.
All of the Domke inserts wear like iron and take a lot of abuse.
