We got this little camera for one main reason: it goes into water.
We've had it for a week now, and as it was my daughters birthday present, and as she is extremely excited about it, it has probably been used for close on 2-3 hours per day during that time.
Much of this time has been spent in the pool, but such diverse things as filming "interviews" with her brother, the dogs accompanying us on a walk, roller blading and wakeboarding and the like have put this camera through it's paces.
Some things to note:
the autofocus works very well. We have not enabled the face chaser but the focus is sharp and quick. THe only time it takes some time is if there is potential for confusion.
the feature set is fairly amazing for what I was expecting. Manual aperture and shutterspeed settings I did NOT expect. Great for playing around with.
One thing that I expected, but would have preferred to have not had to work around is it's low light capability. If you're going to use this in the house, the image gets very grainy very quickly with incandescent and fluoresent lighting (in the evening say). Make sure you've got lots of light available for the best image.
All in all, it is pretty much the camera I expected. Perhaps a little lighter than I thought it would be, but in terms of handling it works as advertised. Given the price, I don't think there is much to touch it.

Comparing the quality between my Sanyo Xacti CG9 and WH1, they look exactly the same. I shot the same building from the same distance and played the clips back side by side, zoomed in, couldn't tell the difference except the CG9 is 4:3 and WH1 is 16:9 (wider). If you are looking for improvement of quality from standard def to high def, this is not the camera to get. But the waterproof feature is great, and the battery life is much longer! A great camera for vacations and interesting underwater shots.

Comments about Sanyo Dual Camera Xacti 720p HD VPC-WH1 Camcorder (Blue):
I bought a yellow model. It immediately flooded. I freaked out and thought I did something wrong. Nope. Water got in thru the lens. I sent it out for warranty repair and it was done rapidly and it was free. It then worked hard for a couple of months and quit again. Probably internal power supply issues this time. The camera did not get flooded. This time the "labor free" part of the warranty expired, but they're fixing it for $105, which is still a great deal. Meanwhile, I bought a blue model because these cameras are an excellent value. Even though I've had two problems with my yellow one, I still highly recommend this unit. One review complained about the lack of an external mic jack. At this price point that is an impossibility. The stereo underwater mics perform just fine. If you're looking for a "do everything" camcorder, this will be a disappointment because above water it ain't so great, but in the swimming pool, or in the shower, or in a winter downpour this camera performs brilliantly. Serious HD camcorder owners should buy this as a fine second camera, to be used in wet environments. It also shoots great stills. In my personal opinion this camcorder is the best value, dollar for dollar, anywhere.Unfortunately this camera does not shoot 24p. Most consumers don't know what this is or don't care. Most professional narrative works are shot at a 24p frame rate. If this camera had a 24p frame rate as a menu option, I can guarantee that it would be an extremely popular stunt camera for film and TV production work.

Exactly what I expected. It's a good camera with good quality video. It's smaller than I expected but that's perfect for what I need it for.

sanyo xacti is the new unique camcorder . there are many special features to the camcorder that make the xacti its own individual camcorder . the biggest feature for the sanyo xacti is that it is waterproof . there is very little built in memory and all recording is for a sdhc card . one thing that is unusual about the sanyo is the time length it can be used . its long lasting battery can last longer then it might say . the resolution is good had has good color balance . for the best result can be made for its main intension , in the water . the water seal is water tight leaving a clear lense in almost all circumstances . all recorded clips that are made is in quiktime file format . from connecting usb, the sanyo to your computer the files can then be drag onto the desktop . the lcd screen can be opened at all times when in the water and the menu system has a different variety of chooses to choose from . over all the sanyo is unique has can be a big surprise . the sanyo xacti makes something that is expensive unexpensive . and a job for water photography that is hard an ease .

I use the product for Kitesurfing/Surfing/kayaking.
It is perfect to get right where the action is in Full HD. You can stand in the waves without worrying about the camera and get those fantastic action shots.
I have even kited while holding the camera and got some great action footage. Be sure to flip the screen around and close it as it is easy to get the screen hinges damaged if you shoot with the screen open and wipe out.
Only disappointed in the 2 mega pixel camera, it doesn't shoot stills very well.

Comments about Sanyo Dual Camera Xacti 720p HD VPC-WH1 Camcorder (Blue):
I have used this product in the snow for snowboard action video, and for bike rides on the road, and the stabilizer works well at the wider focal lengths. The video in 640x480 60fps is very smooth, and the 720p HD is OK too- one thing I did not realize about this Camera are the Manual Controls- Aperture, Shutter speed, Iso- all manual and can be set for the video- Still shots not so great, but I put it on the native res. which is 900k, and they are sharper- less interpolation, but I didn't buy it for stills- Also great battery life in the cold Temps so far!!!
