Simple, yet very rich in features, with an outstanding zoom - optical, plus an extra digital up to an equivalent of 640mm. Light is quite good, 6400 ASA make it a truly sensible machine.
It's really the top choice before going DLR, but I must say I am using it (trying to, I should say..!) more like a DLR than a mere "point-and-shoot". In fact, this camere truly IS a bridge and it offers good compromises you wouldn't suspect in a sensor-only camera.
Very well recommended, and the price is excellent, particulary for a non-US customer passing by NYC and buying it in Euros..

I have found this camera to be excellent in most photo situations. We purchased our P90 on a cruise ship, after our camera broke,and used it taking shots on the ship and on land tours when in different ports. It is easy to use, and the added feature of being able to take shots in bright sunlight through a view finder solves the problem of seeing the scene.

I was looking for a camera that would take great photos of birds and other wildlife on the fly and this camera has not disappointed. I have a bit of a problem holding the camera still, but with the image stabilizer in this unit I have gotten great shots from long distances that crop and enlarge beautifully. We live in the birding paradise of South Texas and just drive around spotting birds. Most of the photos I have taken were from the car window and are amazing. For the price range of this camera, I can't think of anything to criticize.

I live and shoot in Fairbanks AK, started to use it for test shots but changed my mind after seeing the results.
This camera preformed very well at 45 below the battery dies quick but having a spare in you pocket solves the problem. The digtal veiw finder lacks a little the color its off but the results are awesome.
When shooting in the cold the lens moves slowly but it works well.
The sharp results under all conditions is impressive, I shoot D2s but when cold use the P90
Its is easy to conceal under a jacket and the controls are easy to use with light gloves on.
Hand holding this camera is a dream all the anti vibration work well and the color reproduction is very close. I was leary about not be able to using a filter but was proven wrong.
Any one looking for a camera with close to full d slr results need to take a hard look at this camera.

The camera delivers exactly what you need to take pictures with excelent quality / result and a powerfull zoom 24X.
The flash light could pops up automactilly when necessary, but you have to push the botton to flash on.

I use this as a bridging camera between my SLR and point and shoot. The 624 mm optical zoom disignation is an illusion. The optical lens will give 624mm zoom in 35 mm format sensor. At it's present configeration only gives 110 mm optical zoom. I wish the company had been more clear about this feature.

I purchased the camera based upon my experience with my Coolpix P80?. My wife had used a Kodak for the last couple of years and was very frustrated with the battery life. She loves the P90.

Very easy to operate plus terrific quality. The only minus, pictures are of worse quality if shooting in dark.

Great camera for something between your little "pocket" digital and the full SLR. Allows much of the SLR flexibility with the one built in zoom. Great camera for when you want excellent qualtiy without carrying around a full slr system.
Only con so far (I've only had it two weeks) is that the LCD doesn't always display an accurate color of what was actually taken.

However, the color is accurate on your pc and when you make prints.

I've taken lots of pics under different conditions with very good to great results. Even tricky snow conditions were exposed properly; I take back what I said about shutter lag - actually, it is very minimal for a P&S. Articulating LCD screen is versatile and zoom range is nice. As long as lighting is sufficient, images come out fine. External flash shoe would have been helpful since this camera has a puny sensor with high megapixels count - a recipe for poor low light performance and unacceptable amount of grain. No amount of technical trickery is going to overcome that. Also, no thread for filter even if I just wanted to protect the front of the lens. Some of the settings/menus were not very intuitive - need to read the manual to get the most out of this camera.

I really love this camera. This s the first camera I have ever owned of this type and it is Awesome. It is user friendly and takes excelent pictures. I recommend it to everyone.

The P90 reliably produced quality photographs (the most important thing right). Some of the features can be a little too much, but basic operation is what I was looking for.
