This is my backup and alternative camera when I'm out with my DSLR as well as my camera of choice when I'm just out and always want a camera handy. Its size and shape make it ideal to take and use anywhere for sharp pictures any time. The zoom range is great! Just wish it had aperture control, but otherwise it has everything except the ability to change lenses! And the menu and controls couldn't be easier and more intuitive.

Although in theory this camera comes with some great features, I am very disappointed. I had a Coolpix 4800 for several years, and despite the fact that it boasted only 4 MP, i feel that the photos were far superior to the ones i am getting out of the s630. I was excited to find another nikon with a lot of zoom, and expected the same quality as what i had previously. Unfortunatly, i was dissapointed.
Outdoors the colors are great and crisp, but i have yet to shoot an indoor shot that makes me really happy. as a mom taking pics of her kids all the time, this is frustrating beyond words. the colors take on an unnatural reddish orangey hue, and i constantly get blurring, even with image stabilization. I have tried Auto mode and scene selecter and every type of scene possible, but no matter what i do, the color quality is just off and fuzziness common. After several months i finally figured out that the best way to get my kids and not worry about them moving and therefore blurring or getting that ghostly motions quality, as they invariably do, is to use sports mode, but then the camera drops to 3MP. As a result the photos are not really crisp, which when buying a camera with as many MP as this one has regularly, it's once again, frustrating. On the plus side, I have the red one, which is really fun looking, and i love the size and the zoom is pretty close to my old 4800 (which drowned last summer :-( and is no longer working). Also, it's really comfortable in a hand of my size and has a nice thumbgrip intentation.

Best pocket, point and shoot camera out there!! 7x's optical zoom is the best you can get in a camera like this!! Awesome features and it comes is great colors. Love it!! :)
The flash was a little interesting to get working correctly at first but it's smarter than you think and corrects itself!

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S630 Digital Camera (Midnight Blue):
I'm a former semi-pro nature/outdoor photographer - sold my manual Nikons several years ago, and haven't got a digital SLR kit yet. This little Coolpix obviously doesn't replace an SLR kit, but is remarkably versatile and intuitive. Its automatic exposure correction is wonderful - the first day, right out of the box, I shot at an indoor farmer's market, against a wall of windows. Shooting against that much light would have resulted in black silhouettes in the foreground, with a manual camera. The Coolpix instantly balanced the light (with the flash OFF) and rendered natural flesh and produce tones accurately. For macro shooting, obviously there's not the amount of control one has with an SLR, but it intuits the subject pretty well. Very good in low light; helps to use a tripod or other stabilizing prop in that case. Short lag time.
A Coast Guard boating instructor used to tell her classes: the bigger the boat, the more time it spends as the dock. Smaller boats, though they hvae limitations, are more veratile and more likely to be used regularly. This is true with a camera: lugging around an SLR kit, big telephoto lens, tripods etc - cumbersome. With the little Coolpix in my shoulder bag, I can grab shots on the road that I wouldn't otherwise get. Battery life is excellent.
I haven't yet used the video function. But so far, this is a very useful little camera. Highly recommend it for what it can do.

I bought and used the camera for my trip to New York. I think the camera makes great photos. Even when it´s dark you get a good result.

I have a camera in my purse all the time. You never know when something pretty pops up. I do have a big camera, but it is too heavy to carry all the time.
I love all the feature, including snow scene, fireworks, etc. The options are great and really make a difference. We just had a snowstorm, and I took pictures of the falling snow. The snowflakes came out beautifully and not blurry at all
The only thing I can say against it, is when it is bright outside it is hard to see the picture you are taking.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S630 Digital Camera (Midnight Blue):
I bought this product to have a point-and-shoot for when I don't want to carry my DSLRs. I'm a faithful Nikon fan so I went with this coolpix. The camera has some great features, the optical zoom is great, the lens focuses pretty fast (for a snapshot camera of this price range), the rear lcd looks great, VR works nicely, movies look pretty good, etc.
But, my biggest complaint with this camera is the image quality. Almost 90% of the images out of this camera are extremely soft. The darker the scenery, the worse the lack of sharpness becomes. I think this is due to the fact that the lens is fairly slow (f/3.5-5.3) so the camera is applying a lot of noise reduction to counterbalance. Either way, the images are sub-par, even when compared to cameras that are cheaper than this one. Although some of the features are great, they do not make up for the image quality.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S630 Digital Camera (Midnight Blue):
This camera is great for all-around use and is small enough to keep in a small purse. It provides more functionality than several of its competitors. It doesn't take long to familiarize oneself with its features. The camera is easy to use. The control of the flash (on, off, automatic) is handy and quick, not requiring a scroll-through of picture settings, although that is also readily available. Love the picture!

My husband has the Nikon D80 DSLR and when we go on vacation, all the pictures I take with any of my other digital cameras look sooooooo horrible next to his. The quality of the photos taken with this Coolpix are great! They are of course not the same quality as his D80 pictures (he's a semi-professional photographer), but they look pretty good as compared to other point and shoots that I've used! I was impressed with the settings and how easy they are to use. I actually had a picture that I took that my husband said he thought looked like he took it with his D80. I thought that was pretty impressive. I really love this camera - it's the best point and shoot that I've ever owned.
