The Nikon Coolpix L20 Digital Camera provides simple operation with a compact and stylish camera body. The 10.0 megapixel resolution combined with the high quality 3x Nikkor-Zoom lens produces beautiful photographs while its intuitive operation ensures error-free command over the cameras features & functions. The large 3.0-inch LCD Display offer a bright image that is a pleasure to view, even outdoors. And the body itself assures a solid grip with a balance of flowing surfaces contrasted by sharp edge lines. Furthermore, extended light sensitivity as high as ISO 1600 prevents blurred shots in lower light, or when capturing fast-moving subjects. There is even an Easy Auto mode where users can turn on the camera and shoot without worrying about any settings - or users can access 14 different scene modes and three movie modes to get the best results to match the moment.
Powered by Nikon's exclusive EXPEED image processing engine, the Coolpix L20 features a selection of three innovative functions that provide the ability to actually improve the quality of images within the camera. Face-priority AF automatically finds then focuses on people's faces for crisp, clear results time after time. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically compensates to help eradicate traces of the annoying red-eye effect that can sometimes be encountered during flash photography. And D-Lighting can be applied to improve underexposed images or shots taken with too much backlight. D-Lighting automatically creates a copy of the image with detail added where necessary, but with well-exposed areas left completely untouched. These innovative functions are combined in the cameras Smart Portrait System, along with the smile modes and blink warning feature to assure that your portrait and group shot always look great.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 32 yr old sister. She took a few photos Christmas Day just to get familiar with it. The lid to the battery compartment was very difficult to close after inserting the batteries. I tried normal rechargeable AAs first but couldn't get the lid to close. After several minutes I gave up and inserted the batteries that came in the box. I noticed the batteries that came in the box are very slightly smaller than normal rechargeable batteries. It was still difficult but I finally got the lid ti stay closed. The camera is supposed to be able to use rechargeable AAs so she'll use the shorter-life batteries for the time being and hopefully we'll figure out a way for the lid to close when we insert rechargeable AAs. Otherwise, the camera seems to work OK. She's never had a digital camera before; that's why I bought her this one. Even though it's a very simple camera, it'll still take awhile for her to learn how it works. She was very pleased with it and is looking forward to using it more extensively after she becomes comfortable with it.

I was not impressed with its lo light ability, however for the price and application you can't beat it anywhere on the market. I purchased a red one and a blue one(Daughter 13 and son 8.)They enjoyed its simplistic feature set. My son "likes how you can make it set to different scenes." If you couldn't care less about 720p video and your looking to purcase a rugged camera for your children then 2 cameras for under $180 is an exceptional value.

I bought it for my brother, a professional diver, who wanted to make underwater pictures with a AA-Battery camera.
I also bought the red filter and the Fantasea housing, and the results are astonishing!
Great resolution of image, amazing portability even for a AA compact camera, easy to set, nice settings such as the panoramic assitant: wonderfull product.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix L20 Digital Camera (Navy Blue):
I keep the Coolpix with me almost all the time. I use it when my DSLR might bring too much attention. For close to medium range it is a quality product, longer ranges show why I have a 300 mm lens on the DSLR. It's a fine general purpose camera, and can fit in a shirt pocket. Not to mention it uses AA batteries, which can be obtained anywhere.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix L20 Digital Camera (Navy Blue):
This camera is ok, and will certainly get the job done, but i feels cheap and i didn't like how it shoots. The function that is most important to me in a point and shoot is when you are holding down the shutter button half way and focused it should shoot the instant you push it down all the way. This camera does not, there is a small delay. When dealing with kids, dogs, and almost all action shots it is not worth trying to work around.

It broke after less than one month of use and I had bought an extended warranty (through [...], never again!). Now I will buy at B&H. Nikon? Not so sure. It did take good pictures. Need it for newsletter. Been using my 35mm for many years. This was a birthday present. AA batteries only lasted a day. Tried to shoot in the sun, and then it just died. Turns on, but no pix. Waste of money.

This camera offers out of the box ease of use for the quick snapshot shooter, yet also offers menu driven control levels to enable that same shooter to produce fantastic night images, closeups, and even panoramics!

Basic camera that takes photos.
The auto-face detection is slow, but works 75% of the time. In "easy auto mode", the camera sometimes decides NOT to use the flash resulting in a dark photo. You then have to retake the photo in a different mode and manually select the flash.
I LOVE the fact that it runs on AA batteries.

I see the same picture quality in my photos as I get from my Nikon D40 and due to the size of the new L20, it is easy to take along when taking a DSLR is just to much.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix L20 Digital Camera (Navy Blue):
I bought this camera to carry when I don't want to be burdened with an SLR. Also for use when traveling light or backpacking. I picked this particular model mainly because it uses standard AA batteries & I don't have to worry about charging a specialty battery. Especially useful for camping & backpacking because my GPS unit & flashlights also use AAs, so I only have to carry one type of replacement battery for everything. No, it's not a full featured $2k+ digital SLR, but it covers 90% of the needs for a "snapshot" camera. The video is not the greatest, especially in low light; but, hey, at least it does video, too!

The camera works very good, you can take pictures in very dark places and with the motion detection the pictures become very good. And i can use the video mode with satisfaction, though the sound wasent all good therefore it cant get five stars. You have to talk loud and the sound dosent get very good any way.
