The Lumix DMC-TS1 Digital Camera from Panasonic is an ultracompact point and shoot camera, which easily fits into a shirt pocket or purse. The slim camera features an impressive Leica wide-angle zoom lens, perfect for capturing group shots when zoomed out or individual portraiture when zoomed all the way in.
Featuring an impressive waterproof, shockproof, and dustproof design, this pocket shooter can be used in less-than-ideal environments, or for a day on a sandy beach. You can even take it with you in the water, as it is rated to depths of up to 9.84' (3 m). Clumsy users will appreciate its durability: the camera has passed drop tests from heights of 4.92' (1.5 m).
The innovative Intelligent Auto (iA) helps you to take clearer, sharper photographs. This mode includes a Face Recognition function, which can "remember" registered faces. The camera will help to optimize focus and exposure so that the owners of these registered faces will be bright and in focus in photos.
Shaky hands in less-than-ideal lighting conditions can often ruin a photograph. The Lumix features Panasonic's MEGA O.I.S system to help prevent this. This system uses optical stabilization to help counteract shaking, coupled with an intelligent ISO control that automatically adjusts the camera's sensitivity to light in order to achieve a faster shutter speed.

I purchased this camera after giving my Canon 870 to my mother inlaw who needed a new camera. Going from a Canon to a panasonic was a difficult change. My wife and I wanted a more durable camera and having 4 kids i grew tired of worrying more about the camera then what the kids were enjoying. I read a bunch of reviews and decided to give the Panasonic TS1 a try. So far I have liked the camera. Picture Quality is very nice, although a little grainy indoors with medium to low light and flash. Power on is pretty quick and i love the fact that you can start shooting movies with a single push of a button. No dial to turn, just push and REC then push to stop and go back to pictures. This is a real time saver!! We shoot a lot of video on the camera so the 2 things that bug me are the audio level when recording video is not as sensitive as with my last canon so it becomes difficult to hear the voices afterwards. Then when transferring to my computer the video creates a small thumbnail file which is not great resolution, so then i have 2 files for every 1 video recording. Its a pain to always go back and hunt for these files and delete them manually.
Fo the most part there are enough adjustments to allow any user to fine tune the picture their liking. This is nice because everybody sees things a little differently. All in all I would recommend this camera to anyone (like me) with active children or just enjoy outdoors and don't want to worry about wrecking a nice camera. This one seems to be VERY sturdy.

It has so many nice options.. but what's the point if the photos are dull ?!![...]You get the feeling that there is a very light curtain in front of the camera, the colours are not rich, and it's very hard to make a good focus in macro!! and you can only know i's not 100% in focus, only when you get back home, and see the photos on 100% size!!!Last week I took a photograph of a very beautiful butterfly, and I tried so many options (including the "Intelligent-Auto" mode)and took around 30 shots and I was so excited, but got extremely disappointed when I saw them back home! only one of them was around 80% in-focus !!! so stupid, in a Sony camera, you only need to take one shot or too!And by the way, even though it looks ugly on the photos here, it just looks worse on real!!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 Digital Camera (Orange):
Nice camera, nice pictures, good definition, great zoom features. Low light is not a problem for this camera. I still didn't have chance to test underwater photos, but it doesn't seem to have any problem with that. The only problem so far is that I couldn't find any information on the user guide about how to access the memory of the camera. I recorded some pictures on the memory of the camera and I can't transfer to PC due to lack of information on that. I tried to locate the files thru PC but it was not possible...

This little brick is solid, durable, and easy to use. I bought to keep on the boat, where everything eventually gets wet. Panasonic cameras are consistently well thought out, and since the new model appeared and the price on this one is reduced, it is a good value. It is also better looking than most wtar-resistant cameras available.

Very nice all in one pocket camera. High quality. I'm not a fan of the new video format and the folder structure.

One of highest rated waterproof cameras. Big savings since new model came out. Would like to see some protection on metal body such as rubber corner protectors or a clear silicone skin for camera. HD video and stills! What more could you want.

Wanted a packet camera for taking skiing, mt. bike riding, hiking, etc. Narrowed down to the Canon & the Panasonic (we own 5 Canon cameras including the 7D). Chose the Panasonic for it's size advantage over the Canon. I am impressed with the image quality and ease of use. Most important functions can be set/changed from buttons without going to the menu. Good battery life. Wish it had an optical viewfinder!

i've been looking for a good rugged camera that i could take anywhere without having to worry about being damaged too bad. after checking out a bunch of other cameras (olympus, canin, casio) this one seemed like the best bang for the buck. it takes great pictures, the hd video is great, and i can take it to the lake without having to worry. buy it

Camera was exactly what I needed. I bought this camera to survive in extreme conditions while on a backcountry ski expedition in Utah. The camera worked in sub-zero weather and after dropping it in the snow multiple times. The photos are better than most point and shoot cameras, and the battery lasted a full week while in the back country. This is an excellent alternative camera to use when you don't want to carry a heavy SLR.

I tend to take my camera to the beach and get caught in the rain often and drop things on a regular basis. So far this camera has held up fine. The different settings are easy to use and the picture quality is above average.

I really like this camera compared to the other 'light underwater' cameras. It's perfect for what we will use it for. Namely beach/boat/snorkeling.
The one thing I found out after I bought it is Panasonic recommends replacing the seals annually. I don't know how much it costs, or even if the other cameras have a similar requirement. This is a little disappointing.
This camera is smaller than its cohorts, which is great.

i love it. ive been looking at this camera for the last few months as its one of the only point and shoots that can shoot at 720 and be underwater and be shockproof. And when i saw that B&H had it for an awsome price, i just had to.
overall, i love the cam and SD support is a plus.

I have not had any problems with this camera. I see what some people have said about the waterproof seals not looking strong enough, but it seems as though they will function properly. I have dropped it and taken it skiing, and it still works fine. I can't wait to try the underwater function in the summer. The videos are good, but I haven't tried uploading anything to the computer yet.

i was looking for a underwater digtal camera and did alot of research before i bought this one. ive never had one before so i dont have alot to compare it too, but it works amazingly. underwater picture is clear and quick to take. it also has alot of other features that are for land as well. camera is light weight and fits in my pocket.the only thing is i wish it had a better zoom. i am overall very pleased with this camera and would recommend to others

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 Digital Camera (Orange):
I needed a compact camera that was a bit more durable than the standard "point and shoots". This camera matches the photo quality of others in this class, and yet I don't have to worry about how I handle it, or where I take it. It is a much better camera to carry if you travel, fish, hunt, or just hang out at the beach. I don't intend to test it underwater, but it is nice to know that I can wade with it and not worry about rain or accidental submersion. The controls are easy to master, and I find that the "ai" mode is difficult to improve upon. I am still trying to learn more about its use, but so far the pictures that I have taken exceed my expectations.

I bought this camera because I just dropped a Canon Power Shot SD780 IS from literally 2 feet and bent the lens. I wish I would have bought this one in the first place.
I literally pulled it out of the box, put the battery in it and handed it to my 16 month old. Figured if it can stand up to her then it could stand up to the snowboarding, mountain biking and kiteboarding I was buying it for.
Took video even at night as long as your with in a few feet of your subject with it's LED light to assist it's recording in HD.
Multiple settings available and burst settings that are extremely fast.
Has many choices in ISO to select from plus a focus tracking ability for moving subjects.
In addition I bought an 8g SD card for it and it's been a great addition for recording video and pictures.
Still, I haven't used all the settings in each of there environments but thus far I am extremely pleased with this purchase.
I would recommend this to anyone who is hard on equipment and want's to shoot in an outdoor sports environment.

The DMC is easy to use with a simplfied menu.
The pictures are great, precise and sharp.
Video is easy to record.
Huge battery life!
In dark areas you need to worry about how luminate to decrease granurality, take a longer period than usual while your finger is on the trigger.
For camcorder you need a firm hand to overcome shaking the camera and prevent the video to jump.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 Digital Camera (Orange):
Bought this camera for using on the mountain in snow conditions and works exceptionally well. Photo quality is as good as if not better than other point and shoot cameras everyone else is using on the slopes.
Only downside to this product is the software provided is not compatible with the AVCHD Lite HD recording mode and makes this function therefore useless (normal recording in jpeg mode still works)
Very basic and easy to use, difficult to operate with gloves on. All and all for a shock proof/ water proof point and shoot of this size and quality I wouldn't expect any more from it.
Fully recommended.
