Comments about Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1 50" 720p Plasma TV:
We are going to get the tv some help with the sound. The picture is great. When watching movies that have scenes that are dark, it has a good picture. We have really enjoyed the TV.

Comments about Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1 50" 720p Plasma TV:
I like this TV--I don't do anything fancy with it. It was very easy to set up. The sound is pretty bad and it's difficult to get the picture so that it's light enough, but I think I need to futz with it more and add a sound system if I really care. I haven't had much trouble with glare despite being in a very lighted area.

We use the product daily. It is a great size that can be viwed all the way across our living/dining room area with ease. The kids love to dance and sing with music videos. Price was great. Glare is a little harsh sometimes.

Comments about Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1 50" 720p Plasma TV:
Pros: -Perfect size for most living rooms, much better than 42''-No artifacts during dark scenes or fast motion scenes (compared to my lcd which was full of artifacts in these scenes. i did have 60Hz, maybe 120 fixes this, i can't say)-Price. Big time. Beautiful 50'' screen for under $700! Awesome-Picture quality-Connections on back (3hdmi for example)-Great designCons:-No analog audio output, only digital optical, which is kind of strange, a bit of a hassle, although almost all surround sound now has optical in, in which case you won't even notice this.Use:HD comcast, Xbox 360, Ps3, Bluray movies. Big movie watcher, big gamer, into tech. Awesome TV, I love it.Recommend: Absolutely

Comments about Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1 50" 720p Plasma TV:
This set represents a great value compared to televisions currently on the market based on LCD technology. The price of this set allowed me to use it as a bedroom TV and is my second Panasonic PDP, the other being my home theater HDTV.
This TV has better black screen uniformity than my LCD TV's and has a much deeper black as well. At any distance beyond 7-8 ft. the 720P resolution looks just as good as 1080P to my eyes, and the deep blacks give the picture more depth.
Compared to my other higher end (but older) Panasonic, the anti-burn-in features works very well to reduce image retention/burn in issues.
A couple cons though:
1. Red/Green color rendition are slightly false.
2. Blacks, while deep, need to be carefully dialed in or black-crush will appear.
3. Could use a more effective anti-glare screen.

Comments about Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1 50" 720p Plasma TV:
I bought this TV for my bedroom, upgraded from a 32 inch LCD TV. Very simple settings, user friendly remote control, and awesome picture, sound is as good as it can be with slim panel TV, but not bad at all. Difference between 720P and 1080p is not very noticeable, specially at the price variance between the two. I got this at a great price, fast shipment. BUY IT !!! and I also got a 3 year warranty along with it, just in case.

Comments about Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1 50" 720p Plasma TV:
Make sure you do your research regarding viewing distances/angles and how they relate to specific sizes of televisions (diagonal dimension) AND resolution (720p vs. 1080p, for example). I did the research, and I discovered that this TV perfectly fit my needs: optimum viewing distance for a 50" 720p HDTV falls between 8 to 12 feet, approximately, and my primary viewing position is at 10 feet. Also understand that this does not mean a given TV will look bad outside the "optimum" range; it will just look BEST inside that range. It bears mentioning that I was worried this TV (50") would be too large for my room - but it's not. In fact, it's overall physical presence is SO much less than my last TV that the room feels considerably larger now! And the size is almost perfect for viewing, although I could see that even a 60" would be acceptable for this room.
Also be sure to consider what your primary signal source will be. EVERY TV displays at its native resolution (720p for this model), regardless of what signal is sent to it. So if you're sending a progressive scan DVD signal (480p), this TV will have to upconvert it to 720p. If you're sending a BluRay signal (1080p), this TV will have to downconvert it. If you're sending a 720p signal (Xbox 360 or PS3), the signal is in the native resolution of this TV, and there is no signal conversion necessary. Whenever a conversion is made, there is an opportunity for loss of clarity. For me, my primary viewing is Dish Network HD (720p), so this TV doesn't have to convert anything, thus putting it in a great position to show a great image - which it does. And it does so from almost any angle, even up to 170 degrees to the side or 45 degrees (or more) up and down.
It's also important to note that there is absolutely NO "screen door effect" (visible pixels) with this TV, even as close as 2-3 feet from the screen. Additionally, the brightness is very passable. I admittedly use it in the basement, but I really think it would be fine upstairs in the well-lighted living room. And beyond the luminance of the TV, there is truly WAY less screen glare than I had on my old flat screen CRT (36" Sony Wega). The worst of the glare is from the shiny black frame of the TV, honestly (which is a little obnoxious).
Plenty of A/V hookups for me. One slight frustration: I have an HDMI into the TV from the HD Satellite receiver (allegedly carrying video AND audio). However, when I run an optical cable from the optical audio OUT port on the TV to my audio receiver, I get only stereo sound. If I instead run the optical audio from the satellite receiver directly to the audio receiver, I get the full digital 5.1 surround. Not sure what's up with that. Either satellite receiver isn't putting the digital 5.1 signal out through the HDMI cable, the HDMI cable is faulty, or the digital audio OUT port on the TV is bad. I wasn't inclined to fight it, as the end result was the same for me. Might be an issue later, if I hook up another HDMI device (like a Bluray player).
The menu system for this TV is intuitive and simple to use. The remote control is fine, although it's almost useless due to the fact that it's NOT a multi-function (I use the satellite remote and/or the audio receiver remote to control the TV). I really like the auto-off feature and the screen protection feature.
Regarding burn-in or image retention: it does NOT seem to be a problem. I read through a plethera of reviews claiming a plasma TV must be broken in slowly, and I read an equal amount that claimed it's not a big deal. Most of the former were written prior to 2005, while most of the latter were written post 2007. I decided to use a cautious - not zealous - approach. However, it's almost impossible, given the pervasive channel icons and video game symbols. Even so, I have noticed absolutely ZERO burn-in or image retention issues, even after several hours of constant image display in a given area, whether from video games or TV channels. I wouldn't even think twice about it if purchasing a new plasma.
I hooked up a Wii to this TV (480p), and it looks fantastic. No jitter/ghosting, and fabulous colors. The TV automatically switches to the "Game" color settings when you select the "Game" video input, and I have no problems with the display.
Speaking of which, I have just left the TV in "Standard" display mode, and I don't see any need to change it. I did mess with the settings for about 20 minutes or so, but I felt I gained nothing appreciable in doing so, so I went back to the Standard preset.
One last topic: sound. I read many reviews hammering this TV on the speaker quality. My experience has been much different, as I have no complaints about the volume or sound quality. Unless we're watching a movie (either DVD or HD from the satellite - both of which are in 5.1 surround), we just use the TV's speakers. They are more than up to the task, giving a full, rich sound that is more than loud enough. I've never taken it above "16," which appears to be somewhat less than 20% of the possible total volume.
I suppose it bears some relevance that this is my first HDTV purchase. Interpret that information however you like. On the whole, I would easily recommend this television, unless your main objective is to watch primarily Bluray movies, in which case you should go with a 1080p.

Comments about Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1 50" 720p Plasma TV:
This is a great TV for the money. I originally bought a 50" Sanyo plasma from [...], brought it home and the picture went black after 10 minutes of watching it. Returned it and decided I'd just spend the extra money on the Panasonic. I checked B&H before heading to [...] because I've bought cameras from them in the past and was very pleased. With the lower cost, free shipping, no tax and cheaper/better warranty the Panasonic cost almost the same price as the horrible Sanyo I got from [...] The TV itself is great, the stand is very sturdy, way more so than the Sanyo. The picture is really good, unless you're an expert and watch a lot of blue ray it's not worth the money to go with the 1080 over the 720. My parents have very expensive 50" and 55" Samsung's and the picture is way better on this TV. The sound is pretty good as well. I was a bit worried about glare but the anti-glare coating on the screen works perfectly, it's not even an issue. Very easy to hook up and program. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase. I'll certainly buy Panasonic in the future and continue to buy from B&H.
