That I am using this converter to turn old-fashioned slides into digital images is testimony to my being of a certain gray vintage. I found therefore the print on the manual extremely small, and the directions themselves more suited to the 'point and click' generation than to my own. That being said, once I figured out how to use the scanner I have been very happy with it. The images transfer onto the memory/memory card very quickly and easily. The built in screen is small, but certainly larger than the original slides themselves. I have not used the display on TV feature. I have transferred the images from the scanner to my PC. That process has also been very easy and painless. The Photoimpressions software included with the scanner is also uncomplicated. It has enabled me to produce images on documents and on Powerpoint demonstrations which are of a good quality and true to the images captured on film by my camera. For me, as an amateur photographer, the scanner delivers on the results its advertisements have promised.

I have lots and lots of 35mm slides to scan. The fact that this device can copy to a SD card is really nice. Each scan is pretty fast. It's still fairly labor intensive (one scan at a time), but short of a really big investment, it works.
My problem is with the instructions. The graphics are so small that it's hard to read them and match them with what's on the screen. And while it does talk about inserting the SD card in the initial setup section, it doesn't really explain very well how to install/transfer the images. You have to put the SD card in with the device unplugged (you can't get to the socket with the device turned off, as the lid is closed then). If you have already scanned photos you need to turn it off, unplug it, put in the SD card, then plug it in, turn it on, then go to the playback and transfer files. Then it's easy to transfer the SD files anywhere you want.
If you have more than a few slides or negatives to scan, try to get extra carriers.

I had been looking for the ability to convert my hundreds of old slides. this unit is doing an excellant job. Only wish the internal memory was larger. At best definition will only hold 13 slides before download.

Recently purchased a ViewPoint FC-C520-VPBX3 to replace an FS-C1-VP model that i could not get upgraded software that would run with Windows 7. I am disappointed with this newer version in that i cannot run it directly into the computer. You have to copy slide pictures into the memory and then disconnect the unit power and plug it into the computer and download the pictures from the units memory or a flash card to the computer, in my case I use Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10. These additonal steps are very time consuming and I am in the process of digitizing some 3,000 slides. Not a happy camper.

This convertor is nice and small, and works well. My biggest complaint is that it is date stamped 2010 and it's 2011, which makes organizing confusing. Also, I would like it to load directly to my computer instead of having to swap cables from the power source as it captures, then into the USB port of the computer to download.

Using the product for old slides and negatives. It is easy to use, and very fast. The one thing I wish it had is software to remove some of the dust specks.

I bought this scanner, because my father took thousands of slides when I was a kid, and it would be nice to have them on my computer and on removable storage. I didn't imagine there would be much of a difference in slide scanners.
First of all, this scanner doesn't function like most scanners. You can't import images directly from the scanner into your photo editing program. 1. Plug the scanner into a power source; 2. Place an SD card in the memory card slot; 3. Insert slide holder with three slides in it; 4. Scan each individual slide; 5. Save each individual slide to the SD card; 6. Unplug the scanner; 7. Plug the scanner into a USB 2.0 port on your computer. 8. Load the scanned slides onto your computer.
Needless to say, after a lot of practice, I timed myself, and it took me an average of 7 minutes to complete the process for every single slide. I have over 2,000 more slides to scan, and I'll be darned if I'm going to spend 233 hours doing it.
Next, about 50% of the slides don't save as they appear on the scanner's view screen. Some are blurry when saved but not when viewed, and many slides that are crystal clear will be blurry when scanned. Mind you, they will look clear when simply viewing them, but they become blurry when you save them, if that makes any sense.
Finally, for some reason, out of nowhere, stripes will appear on some slides, when they are saved. The slide before and the slide after might have scanned just fine. But, occasionally, when you save a slide, a blue stripe will appear in the photo. The stripe won't be there when you're viewing the slide in the machine, but it will appear there when you save it, which makes absolutely no sense.
I have thrown this scanner in the trash. I wouldn't even want to sell it as an used item, because it's a rip off.
Buy a different slide scanner.

No, it is not a substitute for a quality scanner, but it does the job for rapidly scanning for the web. Just be sure you clean your film first!

I have tried it for slide and negative copies. It is nice to have the LCD screen and the mobility; however, it is cheaply made, and it is almost impossible to clean the glass and lens without breaking off the "dust doors." Copies are very contrasty, with so-so color, requiring a lot of correction in a photo editing program.

I used this to scan old slides.- You need to watch for dust or a hair getting inside the scanner and when this does happen, it is not that easy to clean. You need an air bubble blower and have to squeeze it in at an angle to remove the particle- The color of the slides was definitely better when viewed through a typical view finder. There is no way of changing the default setting for scanning, so plan on spending quite a bit of time with your editing software. This was especially the case with close up slides we had of beautiful flowers. Bright red roses with deep green leaves would scan as unvibrant orange. I've not tried to fix them yet using software.- Speaking of software, I did not use what came in the box as I have photoshop.- On darker slides, a blue line showed accross the bottom of the scan.- Overall it was easy to use, scanned quickly, and was good for preserving some old memories. If the slide is you as a child on a beach, no one will care if your red shirt is now slightly orange. But, if you are looking to reproduce slides for sale or some other professional use, then you should be investing in a higher quality device.- the instructions were poor. The biggest flaw is lack of how to load a slide, so find one you know is right (such as someone driving) to scan first and thus be sure you are not inversing every image : )- Worth the price for quick preservation. I would recommend it for this purpose.Tracy, Author/Photographer[@]

Easy to use. Automatic exposure and color. Fast capture pictures. Good resolution 1800 / 3600. Picture has 2M resolution and can print 8 x 10 with good quality.
But
Take time to put film inside the holder. The film holder can hold 6 frames. In most case, film developers cut them in 4 frames per sheet. The holder lock is hard to open due to its locking mechanism design. It take 70 % time to load and unload the film in the holder. However I was able to capture 160 frames in 15 minutes which is not too bad. The automatic exposure and color set is slightly toward blueish color which can be adjusted which photoshop or other software

This is a great way to convert slides to digital. Fast and good quality. I tried another brand; the pictures all had a very orange cast. The color is very good on this one. 2 problems: there is an errant bluish stripe across the lower part of some slides (1 in 20?) and the slide trays are difficult to use. They are hard to put the slides in and they don't register in the converter easily, requiring manual adjustment. Still we've kept it.
