I was able to get it running within 30 minutes, but the setup can be a little tricky for novice users. With two disks of 1.5T or 2T size, you can easily get enough mirrored storage for home needs. Important feature is the drive spin-down during idle time.
Sharing partitions over nfs and samba was easy. System is pretty quiet even when the fan runs and does not seem to get warm. It lets you keep some space in jbod mode for scratch usage.
The next model DNS-323 comes with a print server port. But may not be worth paying extra dollars. Printers nowadays are generally network enabled eliminating the need for such print servers.
It did not accept a password with special characters such as ! and % which is a slight drawback.

I purchased this product bacause it was touted as being gigabit speed (by Dlink, not B&H Photo), yet the device is not capable of transferring at gigabit speeds, as told to me by the thrid level technician I spoke with as DLink. The unit I received had various issues such as not being able to save settings and not being able to update the firmware. If the speed proved to be actual gigabit I would have asked for a replacement, but instead decided to return the item. If you do not require gigabit speeds then this unit is otherwise quite nice. I got this for my daughter's home network. I have one set up with two 2 gig drives in a RAID and love it. There is a slight lag when it is "asleep", but when you are using the drive it's fast and has been reliable.

I use this product to (raid 1) back up my pictures and files. This is my 3rd one. They work like a charm, they are easy to setup and use. The interface is as easy as it gets and and for the more advanced user, you can set it up to how you like it on your home network (if you rdp in to your home network from somewhere else).
I have 2 of these set up with 2 1TB HDDs and 1 set up with 2TB HDDs.

Comments about D-Link 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure:
This has been one of the best purchases I have made in quite some time! It works very well as a media server. I have no issues finding it on any of the PCs in my house. It streams audio/ video files flawlessly. It beats using an external HD in the same fashion. I have 2 1.5 TB HDDs inside it and it holds all my files. It has an easy one touch button on the front panel that allows you to turn it off and on within seconds. Overall it is a great product!

Comments about D-Link 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure:
[...] I have had the D-Link Network storage enclosure for a couple of weeks now and it has been running non-stop without any problems. I am using it as a media server and backup storage with two 1.5 gig Seagate drives setup as RAID 1. Transfers not anywhere close to gigabit speed but streams movies without problems. I would not recommend the back up software it comes with there are better options out there if you take the time to look.
