Panasonic AG-HPG20 P2 Memory Card Portable Recorder
The Panasonic AG-HPG20 is a portable P2 card recorder and playback device capable of reading DVCPRO, standard DV as well as the high-quality codec, AVC-Intra. Its rugged frame and ability to function on standard Panasonic 12VDC batteries make it ideal for field recording. The two P2 card slots are hot-swappable and support resolutions ranging from NTSC or PAL standard definition all the way up to 1080p. The AG-HPG20 allows users to monitor, record, downconvert, and archive P2 footage while still having access to Panasonic's intuitive thumbnail viewing interface, making P2 solid-state recording both efficient and affordable.
- Multiple Formats
- The AG-HPG20 can play back all Panasonic formats, including DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO HD, as well as the incorporation of AVC-Intra. AVC-Intra records full raster 1920 x 1200 10-bit 4:2:2 footage, making it Panasonic's highest quality codec.
- With professional inputs/outputs (IEEE 1394, USB 2.0 and HD-SDI) and AVC-Intra support, the P2 Portable serves as a low-cost, master-quality deck for fast, file-based recording in high quality production workflows.
- The unit's HD/SD-SDI input terminal gives the flexibility of HD or SD line recording from a wide range of video sources, bridging content to and from older tape-based systems and new HD-SDI infrastructures.
- The shock-resistant, solid-state recorder features a wide range of clip playback and management functions (including metadata editing), speakers and easy-to-use controls.
- The battery-powered HPG20 is compatible with Panasonic's range of camcorders and camera systems and can work with a broad range of non-Panasonic camera systems. Windows PC and Mac compatible.

The Panasonic HPG-20 is an excellent P2 recorder, though not the least expensive solution for recording HD video. We opted to go with this over an AJA KiPro because we wanted to maintain the P2 format and media throughout our system. Certainly is a good product and the sports and news people love this thing! We purchased a yellow DVCam case to keep this safe in travels, but I wish Panasonic would have designed a case specifically for this.
