The Sunpak RD2000 Digital Shoe Mount Flash is a compact and ultra-low profile flash, which fully supports TTL flash operation with digital SLR cameras. This version is dedicated to the Nikon digital SLR camera line, and fully supports Nikon's i-TTL flash operating system.
The flash is powered by only two AA batteries, which keeps it compact and lightweight. At the same time, it provides up to 200 flashes at full power. With a low profile design, this flash barely extends 2" above the camera. The head can tilt up to 90° for bounced illumination. Its light output can be adjusted with a range of +/-1 EV in 0.5 increments (5 settings).
The RD2000 is a handy flash that complements the compact design of digital SLR cameras.

I wanted a small compact flash that I could use as part of a minimalist kit for my flashless D3 but I was disappointed because there is no manual control and it only rotates up and down, not side to side.
Off camera it is even more useless because of the lack of manual control.
If you need something small and lightweight and manual output isn't important than it's not bad.

Comments about Sunpak RD2000 Digital TTL Low-Profile Shoe Mount Flash:
Purchased this flash for my Nikon P7100 since the Nikon SB400 wasn't available at the time I was ready to purchase. I am glad I did.
Very compact with a swivel shoe mount that allows the flash to be virtually flat, and adds a bounce. The wide angle diffuser can also be used like a small bounce card. About double the power of the built in flash. Accurate metering and decent flash color. Overall a nice unit for the P7100. It's not a flash I would reccomend for the D-SLR camera's as I think it is under powered for that use. Using only 2 AA batteries makes it small and easy to pocket carry, but it is slow to recycle.

I haven't had a chance to compare this flash with SB-400 but the results so far are great! Ceiling bouncing makes the portraits look professional and the small size of this flash allows me to keep it in the same small SLR bag with my Nikon D90. It takes the flash a lot longer than 5 sec to recharge ( I am using alkaline Energiser baterries). I will try NiMH and hope they will speed up the recharging

Rating reflects utility. While I have other flash, this proves ideal to use with my D40 (or similar) when I loan to family / friends. The price quite attractive as well. (By my scale a 3-pizza value)

I'm a novice indoor photographer, and this is my first use of an accessory flash. A grandson's birthday provided an excellent opportunity to learn and experiment. The flash was simple to use; plug it in and start shooting. The best exposures came with the flash upright for ceiling bounce. Excellent skin tones, no shadows, no reflections -- except for candles off a puzzle box -- a nice touch. Direct flash had a tad of washout at about 12 feet. I will soon construct my own diffuser and experiment with that. I'm very pleased. Simply impossible to do as well with a popup flash.

I was looking to buy a Nikon SB400 but no one, including Nikon, had them in stock. I saw this flash in a B&H ad and decided to try it. I was pleasantly surprised. It is small and lightweight and has a tilting head which makes it perfect for use with my Demb Saucer Flip-It.
The lighting provided is much more than the D70s flip up provides. The flash works perfectly with Nikon's TTL system. And at half the price of the SB400, it is quite a buy.

Great value for the money. Light weight flash that you can use to bounce off ceilings and has an integrated diffuser. Great for indoor photos to eliminate shadows.

Comments about Sunpak RD2000 Digital TTL Low-Profile Shoe Mount Flash:
This very compact and simple to use flash works nicely on my Nikon D300, exposures accurate, recycle time reasonable. The light quality from the small reflector, which lies close to the lens axis, can be readily improved by using a rubber band to attach a white card reflector made from a 5 x 8 inch note card. Alternately in some rooms, a Sto Fen diffuser can be employed. Used instead for regular bounce flash, the unit has enough power to allow use of ISO 250 or so in a moderately large family room. Anyway, the RD2000 fits nicely into my Lowepro Photo Runner II case, that otherwise holds a DSLR with one wide zoom and one telephoto zoom, wherease my Nikon SB-800, otherwise a fine flash, won't fit. Note that the hot shoe design is specific to Nikon; I actually bought the same flash with the Canon shoe to use with my G10, easily feasible because one of these units costs less than half of the corresponding Nikon or Canon units. The RD2000N won't be enough for certain tasks, but for short range fill-flash, and for bounce flash in small to medium rooms, it will nicely suffice.

Comments about Sunpak RD2000 Digital TTL Low-Profile Shoe Mount Flash:
This flash is about the size and configuration of the top of an SB 600. It has a small white diffuser that flips over into a small recess on the top of the flash and has enough friction to stand up and provide a little catchlight when the flash is tilted up to bounce. It has enough power to bounce flash from indoor ceilings. Not only does the flash swivel up for bounce, but in a clever design the foot swivels into the flash to make it even more compact. It takes two batteries. I bought it to use with the Nikon P7000. It will fit your shirt pocket.

Use this when I want more light than built-in flash with myNikon D5000. Compact, tilts upward, +2 and -2 flash output settings. Excellent output for such a small unit. Never need to leave it behind because it's so compact. Can probably use for outdoor fill flash.

Comments about Sunpak RD2000 Digital TTL Low-Profile Shoe Mount Flash:
The RD2000 flash is the perfect, small, compact flash for travel photos where lots of power isn't necesssary and you don't want to pack weighty gear. Just having the bounce mode makes it much more useful than the the camera's pop-up flash. Attach a cord to it and you've got an handy off camera flash. Its 5 stop compensation makes it grest for fill flash. And it is almost half as much money as the Nikon version. Recycling time is a little slow but then this isn't a flash for commercial work and the flash distance is not muh more than a pop-up flash. Still a great flash for its price and size.

Comments about Sunpak RD2000 Digital TTL Low-Profile Shoe Mount Flash:
The RD2000 is a huge improvement over on-camera TTL flash and offers quick push button exposure compensation control without resorting to the camera's menu. However, the diffuser panel is too loose to stay stowed, but, on the bright side, the same rubber band you use to keep it from accidentally flipping down when you lean over will also hold a 3x5 white reflector for bounce flash or a gel filter. The beauty of this flash is its compactness, consistency, and ease of use while extending range and offering a vertical bounce option.
Just give it ample time to recycle since it runs on 2 AA batteries, which is why it has such a low profile.

"I was reluctant to purchase the Sunpak RD2000 D7000.
I have been very pleasantly surprised by this flash unit. It works well with the iTTL. It is easy to use. It has a relatively fast recycle time. But most importantly, the results to in my pictures are great, a big improvement over the built-in flash! light weight, great for travel.
I cannot yet attest for the unit's durability, since I've had this only a short time. But at this point, I am happy with the flash and would recommend it to others."

Compact shoe mounted flash with bounce capabilities. Light and easy to carry in a fanny pack - makes it perfect for travel. Much better flash that comes on the camera. Can even apply color correction filters using the small flip-down diffuser. Get the Roscolux swatch book of sample filters. Each of these samples can easily be cut into 2 pieces which can cover the flash head. Con - slow recycling time.
