The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W220 Digital Camera is a full-featured, pocket-sized camera built around an incredible 12.1 megapixel image sensor, a precision 4x Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Zoom Lens, and an easy to use suite of in-camera optimization and editing tools. From family gatherings at home to a night on the town with friends, the W220 produces consistently beautiful photographs with rich color and stunning detail.
Frame all of your memories with the bright, wide-view 2.7" LCD. High ISO shooting (up to ISO 3200) combined with Sony's acclaimed Super SteadyShot Optical image stabilizer compensates for hand shake and produces stellar photos--even in low-light. The newly optimized Smile Shutter Mode automatically captures an image when your subject smiles--without the need to press the shutter button. You can adjust Smile Shutter sensitivity and even prioritize your subjects in a group photo using the intuitive menu system.
The Cyber-shot DSC-W220 also includes Sony's D-Range Optimizer to retrieve picture detail in photos with harsh highlights or dark shadows. Advanced Scene Recognition carefully matches your shooting scenario with one of five pre-programmed settings. All of these technologies combine to bring you the very best in imaging quality in a compact, easy to use package.

photograph both our product and similar products, as well as interesting locales and design inspirations. I recently used the camera to photograph for our advertisements and website. It is hassle free, user friendly, and has so many useful features that are easy to use. I am a completely untrained photographer who was able to pick up the camera and take great photos. It is perfect!

Let me put it first: it works fine!
Apart from that, there is nothing really extraordinary about this camera that distinguishes it from most other similar models, except maybe the colors in outdoor settings (more on this below).
- The photos look pretty good, up to the point you start zooming on them and then you can see what the software algorithm is doing to them. So many people say that their old 5 Megapixels camera was taking better pictures. Well, in a way, yes, the images were not "manipulated" then. On the other hand, hard to print a poster with a 5MP photo.
Anyway, you can't buy a 5MP camera any more, so that's as best as it gets!
Understanding the above, and the fact that the camera switches to a lower ISO setting, the low-light pictures will not look good. Hence my "Poor Image Quality" rating.
- Specific to this camera, the lack of an optical viewfinder can be bothersome, as the inability to completely turn off the screen (well, they want you to buy their proprietary and expensive battery soon!). The proprietary connection with no USB port on the camera, even if the description makes you believe otherwise, is a downer. And of course, the need for a Memory Stick Pro Duo - another expensive Sony invention - as opposed to a SD card will make the price of the camera shoot up well above the competition once you also add another battery and a proprietary cable (if you lose the one provided with the camera or want a spare).
- Buyer beware: The zoom number is misleading, what you need to look at is the "35mm equivalent", especially the high number. Here it is 30mm - 120mm. Some 3x zoom cameras will have the same 120mm equivalent. This number in mm will really tell you how good the zoom is to take pictures of far away subjects, not 3x, 4x or 5x.
- I have not owned other brands recently, but the only thing I can say about Sony is that the colors in bright outdoor settings for still images are astonishingly beautiful. Hence my "Good Image Quality" rating too (I am not contradicting myself!).
- So if you will take mostly outdoor shots, with the camera set on Auto mode, and don't mind the high cost of accessories, then this camera is probably your best choice

Clarity is good.
Photos seems to be shaky when you take pictures of the object where there are multiple lighting source focusing on the object.

This is a great camera that I bought for my husband for Christmas. He loves the size of it and how large the view screen is. He also loves all the megapixels. This is a great camera for someone who is not a professional photographer but still wants great pictures.

I bought this to replace the W-120 which is now discontinued. The only negative is that there is no old fashioned view finder which makes it difficult in sunny situations. The W120 had this feature. Otherwise I love it.

We are using the camera as an everyday, point-and-shoot. It does the job, well and didn't break the bank. The image capture is quick, easy, and the images are fairly high quality.

I love Sony cameras and this one is no disappointment. It's the perfect size, the case is perfect (not too bulky) and takes great pics regardless of the lighting conditions. The only thing I don't like is the proprietary cable that connects to your computer and the proprietary battery. The battery lasted about 150 pics before having to recharge.

I bought it for my vacations in NYC and I took very good pictures without paying too much attention to light, distance, movement. It is easy to use and very reliable.

I wasn't expecting much from this camera considering how inexpensive it is but I was surprised. It is a great camera overall with good picture quality. It is not too small that makes it awkward to hold and not too big to fit in your pocket. It is just the right size.

Decent replacement for my broken dsc-w120. A little more pricey and you sacrifice the viewfinder for a larger screen and almost twice the MP. All in all, it takes the type of pictures I expect from a point and shoot. What more could I want?
