M-Audio MIDISport 4x4 Anniversary Edition - USB MIDI Interface
The MIDISport 4x4 USB Anniversary Edition from M-Audio is a 4 input, 4 output MIDI interface that can handle 64 discrete channels of MIDI I/O. Powered from the USB bus of the host computer, the unit is extremely portable and is compatible with both the Mac and Windows platforms.
The interface allows for multiple sound units to be interfaced with a computer and each input and output port has an LED indicator displaying MIDI activity. Due its design, the MIDISport 4x4 USB is an excellent choice for both a professional or project studio, as well as for portable use.
The Anniversary Edition celebrates M-Audio's 20th anniversary with an updated new look without changing the original MIDISport 4x4 functions.

My first move into the midi world met with mixed success when I skimped on a low-cost two-port midi interface, (shall remain nameless).
I subsequently decided to invest in a "proper" and more highly-rated interface and settled on the MIDISport 4x4 Anniversary Edition. What was important to me was the plug-n-play functionality with Lion and not having to install special drivers for basic midi with a Yamaha digital piano.
