The LensAlign Focus Calibration System (Lite Version) is a unique and accurate way to check the focusing performance of your camera and lens combinations. This system provides you with a reliable and easy way to make sure your expensive photographic equipment performs at optimum level. After all, you want your images spot-on sharp since anyone in the business knows that clients don't like excuses - and when you only get one chance to get that money shot, your gear must be in peak condition.
However, no matter what camera/lens you buy, it's probably been mass produced. Even though manufacturers allow for production tolerances, mistakes happen and it is rare that perfection is achieved. If, by chance, your camera is "off" by a fraction and you couple that with a lens that is also off just "so-much", the combination produces an image that will be soft.
Further complicating the equation is what happens when you take it in for repair and the service center decides to over-compensate for the amount that is "off" and instead of dealing with a lens that used to front focus, you now have a lens that either front focuses more or that now back focuses.
LensAlign is a hardware-based tool that permits you to "pair" a camera/lens combo for maximum sharpness. By measuring whatever deviation this combo produces, correction can be readily achieved using the built-in adjustment for auto focus that many of today's high-end cameras possess.
The system is easy to use. Tripod mount your camera while placing the LensAlign on a table or additional tripod and focus on the center focus spot of the target (adjust position of camera to center the target). When this achieved, both the imaging plane and target will be parallel. Set the DOF scale, adjust it as per included instructions and make an image (or images) of the setup. Once you capture the image, minor adjustments can be achieved using the focusing micro-adjustment control on your DSLR. It's that easy.
Note! The Lite Version yields the same measurement accuracy as the LensAlign PRO system but uses a mirror system for sighting, increasing setup time somewhat; DOES NOT include the Enumerator and cannot support the Long Ruler Kit option.

Comments about LensAlign Lite Focus Calibration System:
This system is scientific and accurate. It works precisely as described. The "Lite" version that I got is harder to setup than the Pro version but works well. Canon lens quality is completely unreliable these days. This system just saved me a lot of heartache. I recently bought the Canon 24mm F1.4 L lens - my first lens needed a +14 micro adjustment and so I sent it back. Without this system, I could not have known this accurately. My second 24mm needed a +5 micro adjustment. Still bad for a Canon prime but that is what you have to live with nowadays with Canon quality.
So bottom line, this system will prevent you from getting stuck with a bad lens and will help with the minor adjustments to get critical focus. I cannot live without this system now.

Comments about LensAlign Lite Focus Calibration System:
Better and more reliable than 45 degrees flat target I used for tests. The biggest advantage that AF for surely locks on a flat target and you can use included mirror to align lens square to the target pane, that's always a problem with other techniques. For the price it's an outstanding gadget, I like the flexibility of multi angle ruler.
The drawback - I felt that target it not very contrasty, background is not pure white more like grayish (although seems that AF doesn't have problems with that) and black on white ruler IMO would have worked better for analysis, otherwise you have to use "Emboss" filter in PS to see where the sharpest focusing point it. Build is pretty nice and the whole system seems quite solid, I like the fact that I can take it apart after use for storage. Guess manufacturer can provide a better packaging (it's just a padded envelope) and start including user manual with the product, otherwise you have to go to manufacturer site for it, not a biggy but adds up to cons.
Overall I would recommend it over similarly prices new ColorPro system as it doesn't have any means for aligning lens to the target.

Comments about LensAlign Lite Focus Calibration System:
This is one of those products that is good in theory and poor in practice. The main problem is that it is very difficult to align it sufficiently accurately to make it work. If aligned accurately it would indeed be a splendid product, but it only needs to be off by less than half a degree for your lens to show up as not focussing accurately. Once I realized this, I just used a simple page of newsprint pinned to the wall and judged the focus using this. If you want to know how sharp your lens can be you can focus on the paper using manual focus in the viewfinder, or better still using live view at 10x magnification. Then just microadjust your lenses accordingly. It is much easier to do this than waste your time and money with the Lensalign. The Pro version may be better as the alignment mechanism is more slick, but somehow I doubt it is worth the money either.
