The Canon PowerShot SD780 IS Digital Elph Digital Camera provides a 12.1 megapixel resolution and a 3x Optical Zoom lens with Canon's renowned Optical Image Stabilization system to produce excellent image quality, even under low light shooting conditions. The camera incorporates the exclusive DIGIC 4 image processor which offers impressive response times and also powers Canon's unique Face Detection and Noise Reduction Technologies, making it easier for users to capture sharp, well-exposed images in any shooting situation. Furthermore, the 2.5" PureColor II LCD display has a tough scratch-resistant and anti-reflective coating featuring Night Display for easy viewing in low light. The camera also has a real-image optical viewfinder, that zooms along with the lens. With all of these premium features, the PowerShot SD780 IS Digital Elph is also incredibly slim, measuring only 0.8" (21 mm) deep, and possesses a clean, minimalist design that evokes the classic Canon Elph film camera.

12.1 Megapixel Resolution
The 12.1 megapixel resolution of the SD780 IS Digital Elph ensures that images are captured with all the detail needed for large photo quality prints
3x Optical Zoom Lens
The genuine Canon 3x optical zoom lens on the SD780 produces images with all the clarity and brilliance you'd expect from a world leader in advanced optics technology. The 3x zoom range can handle most typical shooting situations while the 4x digital zoom is included to get extra close with a combined zoom rage of 12x
Optical Image Stabilizer Technology
The lens of the SD780 is equipped with Canon's acclaimed Optical Image Stabilizer Technology that automatically detects and corrects for camera shake so you'll get steady, crisp, brilliant images - under just about any shooting conditions
Slim, Stylish Design
The SD780 IS has a chic, modern, minimalist design akin to the classic Canon Elph film cameras, with a classic Box & Circle design
DIGIC 4 Processor
Delivering fast, responsive camera performance and superb image rendering, the DIGIC 4 processor also enables Canon's Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Furthermore, the processor incorporates iSAPS scene-recognition technology using an internal database of thousands of different photos to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance
Face Detection Technology
Canon's powerful Face Detection Technology delivers impressive results - simply press the Shutter Button halfway down, and the camera automatically pinpoints the faces in the scene and chooses the ideal focus point. The camera controls exposure settings and flash to keep every face looking bright and natural. The SD780 IS also adds Face Detection White Balance - calculating white balance for the best possible skin tones. Furthermore, the Face Select and Track features lets the SD780 IS Digital ELPH user highlight one face among several in a scene, and the camera concentrates on that person, even as they move around the scene
Face Self-Timer
The innovative Face-Self Timer makes getting into your picture easier than ever. With this mode engaged, the camera automatically detects any increase in the number of faces, makes the appropriate exposure adjustments and snaps the shot when that face stops moving, Now there is no need for the photographer to rush into a group shot- just put the camera on a stand or tripod, and the camera will wait for the photographer and all of the others in the shot to get on-camera before it takes the shot. In addition, the camera's motion detection system now tracks moving subjects in a much larger range, and the Servo AF retains focus on a moving subject for the perfect shot, without the need to refocus
Advanced Red-eye Correction
Canon's Red-eye Correction system lets you handle Red-eye problems in two ways. The Red-eye Correction can be applied during shooting by using the Face Detection Technology to recognize and remove red-eye from flash images as they're taken, before the file is written to the memory card. It's also possible to correct red-eye during image playback, using simple settings in the cameras menu
Intelligent Contrast Correction
The DIGIC 4 processor enables Canon's exclusive i-Contrast (Intelligent Contrast Correction) system, which brightens dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for more natural looking images, even in bright daylight where shadow details can be lost. Users can even apply i-Contrast in playback mode to adjust images that were shot without the setting activated
High ISO Sensitivity
The PowerShot SD780 features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto setting (equivalent to ISO 3200) that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, or when shooting fast-moving subjects, giving you greater flexibility for shooting
Shoot & View Video in HD
The PowerShot SD780 IS can record high definition video (1280 x 720@ 30 fps), as well as standard and low resolution video. The camera can also play back video and still images onto an HDTV with the purchase of an optional mini-HDMI connector so you can enjoy HD video and images with no degradation of the image or sound quality. In addition the HD output allows users to view up to 130 still images at once in a thumbnail view so you can quickly find your favorite shot
20 Shooting Modes and My Colors Photo Effects
The PowerShot SD780 has 20 easy-to-use shooting modes including a wide selection of Special Scene modes such as Portrait, Indoor and Night Snapshot, and you can quickly access these modes via the Touch Control Dial. The camera also includes My Colors photo effects, which allow artistic photo effects like color accent and color swap to be applied in-camera both during and after shooting
Smart Auto Mode
The Smart Auto mode intelligently selects from 18 predefined shooting modes to match the camera settings to the needs of your intended scene. With Smart Auto, you can completely concentrate on your subject knowing that the camera has optimized all of the settings for you, and you can be confident that you're getting beautiful, memorable images
High-Resolution 2.5" PureColor II LCD
The 2.5" LCD screen provides vivid, high-resolution viewing and is protected by a scratch-resistant anti-reflection coating for easy on-camera viewing. Whether you're shooting, reviewing or showing off your images, the PureColor LCD screen offers a crisp, clear picture to make shooting, playback and using the camera's menu functions especially convenient

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD780 IS Digital Camera (Gold):

The Canon PowerShot SD 780 IS has got to be the ultimate high quality really compact camera. The deciding factor for me buying this camera was size. You really can carry this camera 24/7 and get very good photographs anytime everytime.
I take almost all photos in available light and the 800 and 1600 ISO indexes generate surprisingly good results. The image stabilization and excellent ergonomics result in sharp photos at hand held 1/8 second shutter speeds! I prefer using the camera in the semiautomatic "P mode" and take about 95% of my pics in this mode. The automatic mode seems to work ok, but I really haven't used this mode much. As for digital zoom, they should have never included it because the quality degradation makes it all but useless. Obviously, this is true with all digital zoom implementations because all you are doing is reducing the effective sensor size.
There are tons of features including an optical viewfinder which is great for fast shots. I've tried most features and everything is generally easy to do, but you should read the manual two or three times if you want to do more than just point and shoot pictures.
The only improvement I would like to see on this camera is a faster lens. A f/1.4 or f/2 lens would open up huge new photo possibilities. Some day someone will figure out how to do this and still keep the camera small. But for now, buy it; you won't be disappointed.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD780 IS Digital Camera (Gold):

We have used Canon equipment for years and appreciate the the high quality of the images and the software. Our older Elph was stolen recently and we replaced it with the SD780 IS. We can easily carry this little camera in a pocket and the images are better than our older Elph. I have compared some images from this camera with those taken with my D5 and it is hard to tell the difference in smaller prints or on the Internet.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD780 IS Digital Camera (Gold):

Purchased this Gold SD780 for my daughter and she loves it. The picture quality is awesome and It's small enough to throw in a pocket so it's always available. It's there and ready to use at a moment's notice. The HD video is an added bonus. Now she has the option to capture that candid shot and/or shoot a short video, whatever the situation calls for.

I like this product because it's small and light weight. I got the gold one, I love it! The gold is very pretty, not tacky looking in anyway. I would recommend this product as a perfect point-in-shoot for anyone that doesn't mind small buttons or small LCD screen on back of camera. The image quality seems okay so far. I've taken about 10 pictures on it only so far. PRO: I look forward to traveling light with it. CON: I would like to upgrade someday to a large, more complicated, multi lens use camera.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD780 IS Digital Camera (Gold):

Had the Canon Powershot 5 megapixel and loved it, but wanted more resolution which I got with the 12.5 megapixel Powershot. Also, appreciate that this camera has image stabilization and is even more compact than the Powershot I used prior and which still works great. Best added features are the image stabilization and the ability to review shots without turning on the whole camera (lens extension, etc.) which saves battery life and makes this even better. As mentioned, this is another wonderfully well thought out Canon camera. And as a user of Canon's analog 1N, their top of the line in analog SLRs, I am convinced from user experience that Canon is the absolute best in this line of business.

In addition, it is so userfriendly. I was able to upload all my pictures to Flickr and share them easily and manipulate them without much effort.

I had been looking for a small "point & shoot" to replace the Nikon D80 I was carrying every day.

I saw this camera in Lucky magazine and instantly fell in love with the size and COLOR! The body weight of the camera is very light and with petite hands the controls are very accessible. I do agree, with the other reviewer, that for bigger hands this camera might be harder to use. I bought a Case Logic camera case and tie it through my bag handles so that I have easy access to my camera.

The photos are crisp and clear and I continually read the manual to learn more about the options of this camera. I highly recommend this camera.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD780 IS Digital Camera (Gold):

I just love this little point and shoot camera! Have had 2 other point and shoot digitals and was pretty satisfied with the picture quality, but wanted a smaller, more portable model. Lots of the vacation pictures I shoot are outdoors. Most of the point and shoot models have only the view screen for framing up your shot. When outdoors in bright light, it is great having the classic view finder. This was the ONLY model I could find with this option. Pictures are fantastic! There is a video function and an optional purchase HDMI cord for direct connection to your TV. Still experimenting with all the options!

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD780 IS Digital Camera (Gold):

I have recently purchased this little camera for everyday pictures, and took it into the eastern part of Nevada for some dirty field work. I was very impressed, easy to use, great clarity, and small enough to put in my pocket while hiking. The only thing I don't really like is the zoom feature pivoting button is really small, so when you're trying to zoom in and out it's a little harder to do unless you have really small fingers...
Downloading on the computer was easier than any other camera I've ever used, and so far I'm very happy with it!

Great little camera. A bit small to handle but overall well made (made in Japan) and takes great photos. I found that the 'Lowepro Napoli 5' case fits it really nice, tight and fitted. I got the gold model with black case. get the Napoli 5 case for it, I promise you will enjoy it.

For just plain old amateur personal use this is a great camera. Love the gold color. Fits in pocket or small coin purse. Simple and straightforward in use. Lots of features. Everything I expected for price.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD780 IS Digital Camera (Gold):

The minute I saw this Canon SD780IS in the store, I knew I had to have one. I believe it is the smallest camera Canon has ever made and I love that I can keep it with me at all times. I have a Canon SD950IS which I like alot but this is so much smaller and easier to take with me. As soon as the battery was charged, I took it outside and began to shoot. Every picture was tack sharp. Later I took pictures inside with low light and again they were very sharp. I was most impressed with how great the HD Video is. I ordered SD780 IS in gold, but it is actually a pretty copper color.
