I am an amateur SLR enthusiast who has a tough time giving credit to any camera where the lens doesn't detach. That said, I bought the SD960 as a gift for someone and was incredibly impressed by it.
The best things about it:
- 28mm lens offers a wider angle lens than most other digital point-and-shoots which is supremely helpful when trying to take a photo of yourself with the ever popular arm-out-in-front-of-you method.
- 4x optical zoom offers great quality images from this very tiny lens
- 12.1 megapixel is the same picture quality as my digital SLR and produces fantastic prints even when cropped and blown-up
- 2.8" screen offers a ton of image real estate. It makes you glad that Canon chose to get rid of the viewfinder and use that extra space for more screen. The screen shows the image incredibly well in all lighting conditions
- Canon has reduced the number of buttons on the back from previous Powershots making it very user friendly. Don't worry, all of the functions are still there, just built into some very easy to use menus.
- The camera starts up in less than a second and is ready to shoot immediately making candid photos and wildlife shots very easy
- Small, lightweight, small, and lightweight. The reason you want a point-and-shoot is to have a camera you can take anywhere with you and this definitely fits the bill.

We were debating between another small point and shoot or an upgrade to a SLR. Our biggest complaint with the point and shoot cameras is the poor lag time between shots. We had read that technology had significantly improved since we last purchased ('08) a p&s. Specifically, this camera rated well in its lag time. Not sure what those giving it a good lag time were used to, but this camera does not possess good lag. My only other complaint is that it borders on being too small. I have big hands and I feel like I could easily drop it. My wife disagrees, but there is a difference in perspective. We generally like the camera and would probably buy it again as it has many conveinences, but don't recommend it if you're expecting a quick lag period.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD960 IS Digital Camera (Silver):
Used for point and shoot and for movies in HD. I carry the camera with me at all times since it is as small as my cell phone.
The video quality is so good I will never purchase a separate bulky video camera. Newer Canon models are on the market but the SD960 had all the features I wanted and at half the price of the new ones.
It has so many shooting modes that I sometimes wonder why I need my Nikon D70. I guess the simple answer is the variety of lens I have with the D70. Macro shooting is fantastic. It starts up very fast. Focus is fast. It informs you of when your zoom will start to pixelate which is a great feature.
I found some 1400mAh batteries from China that work well and provide a VERY long battery life. They also charge quickly. The Canon standard battery offers only about 950mAhs.
The computer software package is fairly lame. I prefer using basic Microsoft software of PhotoShop.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD960 IS Digital Camera (Silver):
I use the camera primarily for taking pictures of nature, my dogs, and friends. The nature shots come out beautifully, and it even has a foliage setting to make things easier. My dogs move around too fast for the camera to get pictures of them doing anything but relaxing, but those ones work well. It can't focus too well on my white dog's face though, maybe because it's too fluffy? Pictures of my friends turn out great and it's quick enough to get some candid shots in.
I haven't used it too much in low light yet, but from what I've seen it works fine. The lag time between photos is typically very good. The controls of the camera are very, very easy to use. It only has a few buttons and a little wheel thing, but that's all it really needs. Also, the effects like color accent and color swap are fun to use. They're not too practical for more professional photographers, but they are still fun for me. (Color accent turns all but one color in your picture to black and white and color swap lets you swap one color in your picture for another.)
I would like it if the camera had some more zoom (it has 4x optical), but most point in shoots in this price range do not so I'm not too upset about it. The shutter speed is okay, but too slow to catch action shots. Its predecessor (the sd880is) had a faster shutter, so I am surprised that they slowed it down like that.
Overall, I think that this is a great camera, especially for its price range, much better than my previous Kodak camera. If it were to break or I lost it, I would definitely buy one again.

I use this camera as my go to point and shoot. It captures everything from short instructional videos, project photos, and items for online auction sites. I love the macro on this camera. It does a great job of getting those nice close up shots for the web and print. I also like having the power of 12MP in my back pocket. Even when I am not carrying around my Nikon D200, I know I can snap quality photos at a moments notice. It is also great for documenting various aspect of projects in the field in either video or photos. I spend a lot of time out of the office as a project manager and this camera gets the job done well every time.

We bought this camera because our other canon got some sand in the lense. We love using canon powershots because they are easy and offer a variety of options. For the price, it's a great camera!

This camera is very easy to use and if you have ever owned a Canon camera before it will be even easier. The 2.8 inch screen on the back is great for reviewing photos. Also, this camera has all the great shooting features and modes offered by Canon such as Macro, color accent, shooting in low light just to name a few.The 12.1 megapixels really produces great quality photos. It is also very sleek and slim and the scratch proof resistant screen is a good option. The only bad thing is that with certain modes sometimes the picture comes out blurry, BUT I think I just haven;t figured out all the settings yet due to the fact that I have only had it for a week.

I always carry with me a small camera for those moments in everyday life when one says 'oh I wish I had a camera'... and this was my choice when it came time to upgrade from my previous one. Looked up the specs online so I wasn't too sure on what to expect when I actually got it. I have to say that I am very happy with my choice: besides the high res, this baby has loads of choices packed in a small, compact body. The only downfall is the lack of a view finder (most likely sacrificed to get a larger display) and sometimes in bright sun conditions I miss it.
