Here's the bad news right away. You'll never take a really sharp photo and there's almost nothing you can do in Photoshop to improve things. This from a very experienced editor.
But let's keep things in perspective. Here's my very personal opinion after using a nice DSLR and a couple of point and shoot cameras. (One of those pt and shoots had a very sharp lens!) Firstly, I take candid pictures. Sure, when I'm editing and see that I've captured a great facial expression, I wish I had taken the photos with a DSLR camera. But this little camera I can slide in the back pocket of my bike jersey, my in-line skate jersey, my fanny pack and never know it's there. (Err, I'm 75.)
Secondly, after editing many many photos with my DSLR where the exposure was a little off and I had to dig the essence of the photos out of the shadows or highlights, reduce noise, etc, I decided that was way too much trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. In other words, with digital cameras the correct exposure is just too critical.
So this is what the Canon engineers have slowly done over time. They have created a little in-camera Photoshop processor, - if I can put it that way, - that nails the exposure perfectly every time as well as making various other corrections. It's almost impossible to miss a shot. So you see, would I rather have an expensive F 1.2 lens, a 10 MByte RAW file and mediocre in-camera processing? Or a perfectly exposed picture?
I imagine the unprocessed file size is about 10 MBytes in RAW form, before the Canon processor beats it to death and hands you a compressed 2.3 MByte jpeg. Are we crying yet? Don't cry. People you send your pictures to will be thrilled and never notice.
And remember, most of the photos and tests performed by the leading testers are usually taken with a tri-pod. I wave this camera around with abandon. I love this camera. But remember, candid shots are my passion, - not landscape, travel, flowers, etc.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital Camera (Pink):
I was looking for a digital camera and after asking my friend, who is a professional photographer, he suggested the sd1200. Pink was my choice! LOVE the camera. First digital camera I have owned, been using a film camera before this which I still use. I had borrowed friend cameras to try and hadnt like them but this one is fantastic. Start instantly, no lag time when I take pics, photo quality is very good and camera seems well made. Price was also really good and the camera is better than some cameras I have tested that were double the price. I would definitely buy this camera again and my friends are asking where they can get one too.I have used this camera indoors outdoors, high speed drive by shots and close ups and every shot is great and color is fantastic. The zoom is limited but that is to be expexted and I dont see it as a con, since the camera is so light and quality is great. No complaints about anything, which surprised me coz I always find something to complain about when I buy new things.

I bought this camera to have a small camera to throw in my purse and have on hand. I love it! It takes great pictures. I own a SLR digital that I love, but it is too heavy and bulky to haul around all the time. This is a great camera for taking pictures of my kids at school, around the house, or to have a small camera to take to special events. It's a great camera for the price.

I bought this camera as a replacement of my current point and shoot. My old camera didn't take nice photos and so I did some research and decided on the SD1200. I have been delighted, it takes great, clear photos. My friends noticed my new camera and they really like it too (May be an increase in purchases of this camera as a result) Easy to use too!

I got this camera for my daughter for Christmas. She loves it. Very easy to use. Screen good size. Many features that make taking pictures easier--we are photochallenged. We have purchased Canon as well as other brands in the past. We will only buy Canon now. Products seem to be of better quality than the other brands.

Use it at parties at night and indoors and with friends during the day, where there very little time to set up and wait on the camera. Well the SD1200 has performed like a champ, start right up I never have to say, wait, hold on, flash picture are very well lit, not over powering, and in focus. Plus its super cute and fits in my small purse. I bought a 4gb card w/it which is big enough to handle when I take video and a little cover so its protected when its being bashed around in my purse.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital Camera (Pink):
This camera is great. it is suitable for daytime, night time and close up shots. The zoom retains the clearest picture regardless of how close it gets to the subject.
Face detection and clarity are great with this product.
Things that are minor problems include the lack of an adjustable strap. There is a strap but it fits very loosely round the wrist and offers little insurance against dropping the camera. The product is also unsuitable for action shots and can often take blurred pictures if the subject moves to much.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital Camera (Pink):
This camera does exactly what you would expect your standard point and shoot to do. I use it frequently at night and in low light settings and am pretty impressed with the pictures it takes. I recently took it to a music festival and got some amazing pictures of brightly lit stages at night. I was also impressed with its ability to take clear shots even at max. zoom. The image stabilization feature is great, and the hot pink color is wonderfully vivid and bold. Overall, this camera has exceeded my expectations.
The only things that aren't so great are that you can't manually adjust shutter speed, but it's only a point and shoot after all, and the screen is easily marked by fingerprints.
