Got his for my wife as she was sick of the my camera. She wanted something small and simple to operate with 'less' buttons.Why I got interested in this one? well, first its price, [$] Looked up the reviews on the web and did not find anything unpleasant about it.The first shots were not very pleasing. Maybe it was my fault to compare it with my S2. The AF does not work very well in high or low contrasts so be careful. I noticed that keeping the face detection feature on helps to get better shots.Not much expected from the flash - it is small. But don't get it wrong. It is quite capable of making good indoor shots in close ranges.I can't say anything about durability. We are having it for only two weeks!bottom line, I believe it is a good value for money. At least the lady is happy with it!

So far so good. I wanted something that was inexpensive but still good quality. I already have an expensive fancy pants camera and just wanted one that I could throw in my purse and always have on hand. This was the best quality camera, with good reviews that I could find for under $150.
I took some pictures of horse jumping in a big arena and got some great pictures. It's pretty user friendly, I haven't run into any problems yet.
It does have a longer lag time than I would prefer, especially when using the flash. I also wasn't impressed by the brightness in low light, but I was taking shots from very far away in a large, dark arena. The brightness was easily fixed up uploading and correcting the pictures.

I was looking for a "Point and Shoot" camera for my wife. The reviews for this camera indicated that it was loaded with features and an excellent buy. The reviews were not wrong. You get a lot of camera/features for the money with this camera. I am amazed that they can put all the features they do into so small a package. Uses readily available AAA batteries. EXCELLENT BUY, you won't be disappointed.

The PowerShot A1100 IS is easy to use in Easy Mode. I find that I still have to get used to the Auto mode. It seems to take a little time before the orange lite comes on and I can shoot. I will be using it in Europe in June and I won't have a lot of time for taking the shot. It needs to be instant.We will be moving in a pretty fast pace but so far I really like the pictures that I have taken.

I went looking for a camera for my then 8 year old grandson. After reading reviews about P&S cameras, I found a review that said that this camera was very tough. I bought it, and for over a year my grandson has been taking pictures with his copy. This year I bought his little sister her first camera, and I bought a third one for my daughter in law. I wish you could have seen the joy on all three of these people when they opened their gift and found a camera.
So the bottom line is that a 8 year old had this camera for a year, and it is still working great.

* The regular AA batteries is a "plus" when travelling in countries/cities which electricity is not available to recharge the camera.
* the "viewing window" is useful when taking pictures in the dark (when it is too dark to see on LCD screen)

Purchased this as a gift after using the A1000 IS on a trip. Typical Canon menus that are easy for a novice to use. Picture quality is very good for this price range. Only complaint is the battery/SD card door. A bit difficult to open when the camera is new but becomes better after some use.
