Was looking for a small camera for my P&S trip cam. I like being able to use AA rechargable batteries. I own the A620 and this one is much lighter with just 2 AA instead of 4. The photos are good...get the clipping but if you play with exposure settings it does a good job. Love the IS feature. Really makes the high ISO shots usable after a run through denoiser.

I wanted a camera that was powerful, took great photos, and was easy enough to use that my 80-something mother would be comfortable with it. I purchased it for her. This camera does all that and does it well. The Auto setting works well for most shots and the quality of images is very good. It has the usual weaknesses of a point-and-shoot: some shutter lag and a flash that is weak by SLR standards. However, outdoors in natural light with relatively still subjects it really shines. I didn't buy a case because the body is relatively rugged and appears that it will withstand a reasonable amount of abuse. It also requires AA batteries, which is perfect for the casual user who shouldn't have to worry about whether the proprietary battery has enough charge.

I have noticed that most of the digital point and shoot cameras have been discontinuing the viewfinder feature. That was the one feature that has kept me a Canon purchaser. In bright sunlight, I can't see an image on the screen. I have been noticing that even Canon is discontinuing this feature, so I wanted to quickly purchase this before I lost out altogether. I love the size, the amenities, and especially the soft green color!! I had to go to a dozen or so websites before I finally found it at B&H. So, picture me smiling!!

We needed a camera that we could carry anywhere anytime that would not take up much room or add much weight to our gear. We wanted one with a view finder because using the LCD displays in bright sun to see what you are photographing is nearly impossible. However we did not want to compromise too much on image quality. This little camera, so far, has fit the bill nicely. I am especially pleased that the LCD display can be turned off, which helps lengthen the battery life. Canon should advertise this better. Picture quality is very good for most scenes. We have noticed a bit of pixilation in the images of large landscapes with bright white clouds in the sky. We hike a lot and don't always want to take our larger camera which is heavier and bulkier than this one. My wife can carry it easily in here purse where ever she goes and I can put in my jacket pocket with ease. I have read some reviews complaining about this camera eating batteries and I suspect it does to some extent especially if you use the LCD a lot, but this is one of the trade offs with this type of camera. You have to decide what your own needs are. The 4x optical zoom is adequate for most scenes, but can not compare to larger cameras and lenses. The 12x digital zoom only works for the lower quality image resolutions and may or may not provide good images depending on the distance to the object you are trying to zoom in on. If you need good quality images with a lot of magnification, get a different camera or get a digital SLR with interchangeable lenses. The macro setting on this little camera is quite good for most shots. Again, if you need really close macro shots, get a different camera. As an all around go anywhere anytime camera for taking spur of the moment good quality images this is a good buy in my opinion.

I use the camera mainly for documentation of vehicle and property damage. It is easy to handle and operate. It also has a range finder which is great when bright sun washes out the LCD or I am trying to extend battery life.

This is a light weight point & shoot camera with ample resolution and modest zoom. I previously owned a PowerShot A80. It was larger, and with less megapixels than the 1100, but it had a manual setting that sadly is absent on the 1100. Also, the shutter lag on the 1100 is dramatically longer than on the 80.

Picture quality is EXCELLENT! Color is so vibrant - it's spectacular. I read the reviews on several cameras before I bought one for my vacation. Image quality was my number 1 priority. The reviewers were right! The image quality and color were exceptionally good. During my vacation, I actually left my other regular-sized camera in my hotel room for this one! This is a handy, compact and easy-to-use camera. Well worth the money.

I knew exactly what I wanted because I already had an A1000 IS Canon Digital Camera, which I had dropped and broken. I looked at quite a few websites to find the best price and found this one at B & H Photo. Although I found the same camera at other websites for the same price, the reputation of B & H Photo was a no brainer.

As for the camera, it's one of the easiest cameras to use, and takes great photos for my business.

Not quite as good as I hoped for. I bought this camera to replace a broken A560 (which took great pictures). So far it has not measured up. I purchased the A1100 as an all purpose camera that is small enough to always have with me. I have now taken 219 pictures, which may or may not be a fair test. Unless the sun is out and conditions are good, my pictures are lacking in color and clarity. Low light shots have been disappointing.

I bought this camera for my daughter for Christmas and she loves it. It's easy to use and takes a very good quality picture. My only gripe would be the time it takes to focus and snap the picture, if you're planning on taking action shots definitely go with a dslr. For quick grab shots of willing models this works just fine. Well there is a second thing, the lack of a rechargeable battery...but you can pick some up on your own.

This was bought for my 4 year old son by his grandmother. I thought it might be too much for him, but we also have tried the cheap plastic 'kid' cameras with no luck.
To our surprise, he took to it after minimal instruction.
The stabilization helps make most of his pictures clear. This camera has a lot of features he won't use, but image quality and ease of use are excellent!

My husband has a Nikon D-80 and so we can take really fantastic pictures during slower events. We're both artists, so quality is a must. My previous camera has been held together with masking tape and was extremely SLOW. I needed something that would turn on fast and focus quickly so I don't miss my shot. I love to just pull my camera out of my bag for a quick snap or for events that a large camera is just to much to bring. My brother has an earlier model of this camera, brought it to my wedding and gave us almost better shots than our photographer. This camera is the best "point and shoot" I have owned yet. It's fast, easy to use, and the images are very clear, even on Night Shot. There are so many great features that make it fun to use, with out getting frustrated. The only con so far is when zooming out - if you are focused on a particular image, you might have to refocus on something further away; otherwise the zoom will only retract a few pixels at a time. Other than that, I would recommend this camera in an instant!

I work outdoors and use this camera to document surveys. The camera takes really great pictures in all types of lighting situations. The best feature is the view finder many cameras in this category do not have this feature. It is nice to have a view finder in bright light when it is hard to see the LCD display.
I do not have any complaints about this product. I would recommend it to any one who wants a great point and shoot camera that takes better pictures than many cameras that cost twice as much.

Great camera, but takes AA batteries. I didn't realize that when I purchased it, but none-the-less I'm going to keep it, because it takes great video and amazing photos!

This is the third Canon digital P&S that I've owned. The previous two, an A550 and A720IS are still working as well as new. They've just been given to family members.

I am continuously impressed by the technical and usability improvements Canon has made over time. What I've come to conclude is that Canon P&S is essentially amongst the best money can buy at each product generation.

The image quality from the A1100 is simply superb. Base ISO pictures are essentially noiseless, and very well suppressed at 400ISO. The optics are very good. Overall, the camera is fairly quick and responsive.

Lastly, I've favored the A series over Canon's other smaller P&S for a couple of reasons. The use of widely available AA batteries and the availability of a viewfinder are practical advantages.

I needed a point-and-shoot for when my SLR is more than I need or want to carry (primarily for snapshots of friends and vacations). The PowerShot gives me excellent pictures and is easy to use. It's been hard to adjust back to the lag time, after using a no-lag SLR, but I'm otherwise pleased with this camera.

I bought this for my mom. Don't know the quality as we haven't print out any yet. Seems easy to use but there're still functions that she can confused. I don't like that we have to print our own manual. But it's light and fits good on the hand. The flash takes longer to recharge than I'd like.

I purchased this camera for my 10 year old grandson. A week after he received it he went to a civil war re-enactment and took a bunch of pictures that he is now learning to process on his mothers computer. He finds the camera relatively easy to use, and he is thrilled with the pictures he is getting. The added benefit of learning a few computer skills is another plus. If he is happy, and he is, then I am happy. I can recommend this camera to anyone looking for a simple point-and shoot that gives results you can be happy with. And if your looking for a high-end present for a 10 year old, this is it.

Bought this camera to update from my PowerShot A40. Found the new features amazing. Easy to use, lightweight, similar menus to my old camera. I like using a viewfinder instead of the LCD panel. It makes the camera steadier for me up against my face. I like the AA batteries so that charging them or buying them anywhere is not a problem. However, the words and graphics on the control buttons on the back have already scratched off. The LCD panel is scratched. I kept my old camera in my purse for years when I went to children's programs or travel (even to Europe). Never had anything damaged or scratched off. It still looks new. I have only had this camera for 1 month for a trip to Washington DC. Still it is a very nice camera and has worked fine for me. In the museums I turned off the flash and the pictures turned out great. I would give it 4 1/2 stars just for the way the paint wore off of the buttons.
