PocketWizard MiniTT1 Radio Slave Transmitter for Nikon i-TTL System
The PocketWizard MiniTT1 Radio Slave Transmitter is part of an ultra-versatile radio slave system, and is dedicated specifically to the Nikon i-TTL flash control system. It simply slides directly into the camera's hot shoe, and there are no special settings to make or modes to call up. Use the camera, on-camera flash, or flash commander controls for flash compensation, zone and ratio control. It supports single or multiple dedicated flash units.
The MiniTT1 is the ideal addition to any Nikon i-TTL flash system. It works in combination with the FlexTT5 Transceiver, and since this system works on digital radio technology, it can support i-TTL operation around corners, out-of-sight, or in bright sunlight.
- 2 Channel Settings + Learn Mode
- Each setting can be programmed to support up to 20 ControlTL channels for TTL photography, or 32 standard channels for manual flash photography. The FlexTT5 Transceiver also has a three-zone selector switch, which integrates with Nikon zones and ratios. The Learn Mode allows the unit to detect the channel used by any other unit in the area.
- Reverse Compatible
- Operates on the same channels as all other PocketWizards and will work with any unit you may already have.
- HyperSync & High-Speed Sync Technology
- Supports flash sync speeds of up to 1/500th sec. High-Speed Sync auto syncs flash system with the camera's shutter speed setting, up to 1/8000th.
- Built-in Hot Shoe
- Features a hot shoe on the top, so that you can still mount a flash unit directly onto the camera. This allows you to combine your remote flash with the on-camera flash, or use the on-camera flash for additional i-TTL control only.
- Low-Profile Design
- The MiniTT1 lies flat to stay out of the way and uses an internal antenna.
- Configurable and Upgradeable
- The MiniTT1 features a mini-USB port, which makes it upgradeable and "future-proof" for continuous improvements and compatibility upgrades.

I did a lot of research before purchasing the PW system. I've coupled this mini TT1 with a Flex TT5 and it works....most of the time. Despite a whole lot of testing and re-testing I still couldn't get rid of an occasional misfire. This isn't a deal breaker but for a product that is premium priced I would've liked to get closer to 100% reliability. It is most critical that you power up the PW system as they recommend and make sure batteries are in good shape.
In contrast, the Nikon remote CLS never failed to fire as long as I stayed within the capabilities of that system. Still, for very long range and for total out-of-sight remote placement, the PW system does work; albeit for a premium. I would recommend with the above caveat.

I just purchased the FlexTT5 Transceiver and MiniTT1 Transmitter Radio for Nikon i-TTL Flash and recently used them on a portrait shoot. I was using a Nikon D7000 and SB-900 and placed the flash within 15 feet of the camera, I experience about 30% failure of the flash to fire upon shutter release. I updated the firmware and reviewed my settings. Pocketwizard does not provide live tech support. I will keep trying, I should have purchased the well tested PlusII>

Great product. I use it with pocketwizard plus ii's and set the hyper sync offset accordingly. I mainly shoot skateboarding and this Is perfect for it. I can get almost 3 stops faster shutter speed.

Works ridiculously well!! Ignore the negative feedback these have received from others... The one trick that makes everything work correctly when utilizing these is to turn your equipment on from the top down, i.e. Power on MiniTT1, then camera body. If using speedlight on top of MiniTT1 then Power on Speedlight, then MiniTT1 and finally the camera body.

I used the transmitter/receivers for the first time Friday Jan. 21 as I shot photos at a local high school basketball game. The units worked flawlessly on my Nikon D-200. The quality of the photos are incredible ! I highly reccomend the use of the Pocket Wizard remotely operated strobe system. I used 2 SB 900 strobes to provide the illumination !

Pocket Wizard has the great ability to make a simple product that always comes through. Love using the new Nikon system with the MiniTT1 paired with the FlexTT5. As a wedding photographer it works fantastic for my reception lighting system and makes it super easy to setup quick and move around my light setup in an instant. I love how tiny and unobtrusive the Mini is! Much simpler than having to attach a bracket to hold a Plus II Pocket Wizard to the camera.

Transmitts via radio most of the info formerly sent via infra-red light beam from a Nikon iTTL Master flash. No adjustments to camera settings nor usual procedures required.
It works perfectly to control TTL exposure of a single group of flashes. It cannot fully control multiple groups as can the Nikon Master Flash without the addition of Pocket Wizard's AC-3 Zone Controller.
The button battery only draws power while the camera display is illuminated so it has acceptable life.

It's very small and TTL works great but I don't want to be spending money on batteries so I'll just get another TT5 and use my existing AA rechargeables.
For some reason AF performance suffers a bit when using these triggers on my D700 (also happenes with the FlexTT5). With the included firmware for some weird reason it even caused the camera to misfocus. I upgraded the firmware and it now focuses accurately but I feel it is a tad slower than without the trigger. (D700 with a variety of Nikon AF-S lenses).

I use a Mini TT1 with three Flex TT5 and an AC3 zone controller. They work great at any range I've tried while shooting both portraits and events. While I prefer manual settings, I've had perfect results with TTL also. I had a sporadic interference problem once (no surprise) when shooting in a firestation, but solved it quickly by switching to another channel.

I use this in conjunction with the TT5 Flex mounted on a SB-900 in a soft box. When I was researching which wizards to get it too a bit to figure out, but the mini is for your camera and works as a transmitter only, you can't hook up an external flash to it and have it work. used with the tt5 flex, it's a dandy.
