International orders*The Profoto D1 Air 500 w/s Monolight is a significant refinement of the ComPact monolight series from the company which having become synonymous with professional strobe lighting, is now celebrating its 40th anniversary.
No stone has been left unturned in the provision of tech and convenience features that seem to derive from professional photographers' wish lists. The sleek matte-black, high-impact polycarbonate finish encases strobe design that goes beyond the highly visible LED readout and is digital from the ground up. The 7 stop power range breaks down to 1/10 stop increments providing flexibility, precision and consistency, made possible by dual mode SMPS capacitor charging.
A new built-in 77 degree reflector (5.12" diameter) maximizes case space and is ideal for umbrella and softbox use. Features that we've come to expect from Profoto over the years: short flash duration, rapid recycling, a bright 300W modeling lamp and heavy-duty cabling are all on-board.
New Profoto Air System technology replaces the sync cord, allowing the head to be remotely triggered from as much as 300 meters (1000 feet) away using a Profoto Air Remote or Air Sync transceiver (sold separately). The Air Sync provides wireless triggering (8 channels) via hot shoe or mini plug, while the Air Remote provides wireless triggering as well as full-function head control over 8 channels in 6 distinct groups. Additionally, the D1 Air's syncing and complete functionality can be wirelessly controlled via your PC or Mac by using Profoto's Air USB and Studio Air systems.
Modeling lamp operation is user-selectable: On/Off/Proportional and Free (manual). There is also a selectable flash confirmation (dimming) feature in addition to an audible, fully-recycled tone. The D1 is compatible with the full line of widely-acclaimed Profoto light-shaping tools. Finally, the self-sensing multi-voltage circuitry allows you to take the D1 anywhere in the world.
Note:D1 Air models require use of a Profoto Air remote or Profoto Air Sync for triggering the strobe from the camera

Comments about Profoto D1 Air 500 w/s Monolight (120V-230V):
Profoto mono lights are the best made. Combine the mono light with the air remote and you have total wireless control. As a professional photographer I only go with the best. I use the lights in studio only. With an octabank or soft box the quality of light is amazing. Even with just the straight head, with built in reflector you can tell the color temperature never changes and the quality of light is outstanding. Recycle time is key with this model. Pair this light with a quality light modifier and the air system and you have it made.

Comments about Profoto D1 Air 500 w/s Monolight (120V-230V):
The two light kits are a much better deal, but I nearly always work with an odd number of lights. I wouldn't have known there was newer firmware out if I hadn't bought this. So my other lights are now off for an upgrade.

Comments about Profoto D1 Air 500 w/s Monolight (120V-230V):
Very well made with consistent output. The modeling light is strong enough to be used without the flash tube (in my case for glamor photography) by simply bumping up your ISO. I am still awaiting my air remote transceiver but have used them in the past and anticipate that it will simply increase functionality. Software does not yet appear to be compatible with Mac OS 10.7 and because it is Profoto it is somewhat expensive especially the various reflector grids but still very satisfied with the light.

Comments about Profoto D1 Air 500 w/s Monolight (120V-230V):
I am loving the new Profoto D1 Air units. The ability to control the power of the heads in 10th stop or full stop increments has been incredible. For those that light ballrooms at weddings, like we do, this is incredibly useful. The modeling lamps are also great for DSLR video in some situations, and again, the ability to control the power of the the modeling lamps from the camera is also very helpful.

Added this light as third to my Profoto monolight set. Like the first two, this is an outstanding product. Easy to use, completely reliable, great performance.

Comments about Profoto D1 Air 500 w/s Monolight (120V-230V):
I own strobes from several manufacturers including Elinchrom, Photogenic, and Paul Buff. Quality of both the construction and the Light in the Profoto can only be equaled or perhaps even surpassed, by Broncolor. IMHO, Profoto is head and shoulders above Elinchrom.
