Thermal imaging surpasses the capabilities of ubiquitous light-intensification systems by being able to see through camouflage and many obscurants. Thermal imagers read heat at the molecular level, and translate that data into usable imagery. The operator's covert status is maintained at all times; operating under total darkness conditions requires no auxiliary lighting.
