The Eee Box from ASUS is a compact desktop computer, built with home and office use in mind. The small computer is the epitome of elegance, boasting pleasing aesthetics and extremely quiet operation.
The system is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, and boasts 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive capacity, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and Intel GMA graphics. The computer's operating system is Windows XP Home.
The Eee Box manages to balance performance, size, and power consumption. While its Atom CPU may not be the fastest in the world, it generates less heat and consumes less power than high-end desktop CPUs. This allows the Eee Box to be small and quiet, while still providing enough processing horsepower to run home, office, and Internet applications.

Comments about ASUS Eee Box Desktop Computer (Pure Black):
This unit was used to replace a 25 year old back-office proprietary system that was used for inventory/ordering/tracking purposes at a family owned hardware store. I find that many reviews are misleading because the purchaser bought something hoping it would do more than it realistically could or should. That's not the case here.
We needed something that was simple to set-up, easy to use, and didn't take up a lot of space. It won't be used for anything graphic intensive, just data entry, spreadsheets, etc.
I had it set up in less than 10 minutes and was demonstrating to the new owner how to use it with no problems at all. It really is quite small, comes with a nice little stand, and looks rather nice.
Some important notes for those of you still on the fence. The keyboard doesn't feel all that durable (almost a thin plastic?) and the mouse is pretty small, so you may end up purchasing additional peripherals to improve your experience. Also, there is no optical drive whatsoever. It says this clearly in the description, but for some reason, everyone expects it to have one. I simply brought my external optical drive with and plugged it into one of the many usb ports.
Great: Ease of Use, Price, Look, Size, Quiet,
Not So Great: Seemingly Cheap Keyboard, Small Mouse

Comments about ASUS Eee Box Desktop Computer (Pure Black):
I purchased this to watch streaming video (netflix, hulu etc.) on my TV, and for light internet use, skype. I also play some simple games and sort my digital pics. It handles such tasks without a problem! It works right out of the box! just plug thing in and you are ready to go.
For me it takes 2-3 seconds to turn on into the initial interface, and a bit longer to switch to OS.
The box is small and looks nice; this particular one matches the exterior of my TV. Runs VERY quiet. Does not freeze. I leave it on all the time.
As to specifications, 1GB does deliver enough juice to run things which the BOX is designed for. But do not run multiple, complicated apps or fill the HD up. It has USB ports and a media card reader.
If you need more power, a newer OS, or a CD-rom look into the newer models.
