The Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera is the most compact DSLR in its class with integrated sensor-shift image stabilization. Designed for beginning and advanced photographers conscious of size, the E-620 is packed with features once found only in bulkier, heavier models. The high resolution Live-MOS image sensor combined with the TruePic III+ processing provides brilliant color and quality for true-to-life skin tones, brilliant blue skies, and fine detail. A flip-out 2.7" HyperCrystal II LCD enables images to be beautifully displayed in vivid color from wide 176-degree viewing angles or even under bright sunlight. Autofocus Live View provides users with the choice of framing images through the viewfinder or on the LCD. Because the display flips out and swivels, composing subjects from above, below or at any odd angle is fun and easy.
The E-620 makes it easy to shoot like a pro with 13 intuitive Scene Select Modes. Included features such as Face Detection, Shadow Adjustment, and In-body Image Stabilization ensure clear, crisp images in any shooting situation. Six newly developed Art Filters and in-camera multiple exposure provide your photography a variety of high style aesthetics, while an integrated anti-dust system keeps images spot free.

I have an E-500 prior to purchasing the E-620. The 500 did not have any image stabilization, but with effort, tripod and mono-pod I got great shots. However, I wanted something with image stabilization. I also own a Canon 40D with image stabilization, which I use for most of my serious photography. I wanted something that I could take with me on trips that didn't weight a ton and I didn't have to carry a tripod or mono-pod. The 620 full filled those requirements and more. It's really light. Has great functionality. The quality of image is great. I've taken landscape shots, macro shots, and regular shots. All came out just as they looked in the view finder and Live mode. The LCD is great. it moves at different positions, which allows you to set up the camera at different angles ... this is cool! No more bending and laying on your stomach for that great image. Over all it met my expectations. The only problem I had is that some of the control buttons are very close to the thumb grip. I have big hands, and I am constantly hitting those buttons with my thumb. You just have to be very careful. Also, I shoot in RAW format. Currently, Adobe Lightroom does not support this camera. However, a new update to Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop CS4 does support this camera. Along with the camera raw update, Adobe updated their DNG conversion tool, which does support the 620 and allows you to import into Lightroom using the dng format.
It's a great camera with lots of functionality!

I had high hopes for this DSLR.
It seemed to be just what I was looking for: a small, relatively lightweight DSLR with a good feature set that I could use on hiking trips (I wanted to keep the control I get with an SLR, but I wanted a smaller & lighter camera than my Nikon D300); plus the shoe-mount flash for the camera works on two AA batteries, saving additional size and weight. Moreover, I had started out in photography in the 70's with the Olympus OM series cameras (which I still own), so I have a soft spot in my heart for Olympus cameras.
But, regrettably, this camera has performed below par. It routinely fails to focus properly (instead focusing just ahead or behind the intended target). And even with a pretty expensive lens with a good reputation -- the 14-60mm f/2.8-4 -- it does not yield particularly good images.
This camera has been a disappointment for me. I cannot recommend it to others.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera:
I'm a free lance photo journalist in my town and my first serious camera for this was the Olympus E-500 with which I was able to take many good photos with, some of which made the paper.
Since I bought the Olympus E-620 I have been overwhelmed at the quality and detail in thee photos.
In the first 2 weeks of receiving this camera I was published no less than 4 times in local papers. Exp. Cop Shooting of physco driver, Head On Fatal Crash, Small Plane Crash Fatal at our local airport. Everyone who has seen the photos from this new camera exclaim who bright, sharp and detailed they are. I know for my balance problems the IS made a big difference, no more blurred action pics.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera:
I upgraded my E-520 body to the E-620, mainly for the improved auto-focus, which is 7 points, vs. 3 points. Auto-focus works fairly briskly most of the time, but there can still be periodic searching. I use a 14-54 mm lens on my camera.
The camera is packed with features. The menu and buttons are not too hard to figure out. Admittedly, after using the menus on the E-520, the E-620 felt essentially the same, with a few additional features.
The form factor of the body still works for my medium-large hands. I do miss the larger hand grip of the E-520, but this issue is certainly not a dealbreaker at all. Battery life seems satisfactory. I was able to shoot around 400 shots or so on a single battery charge.
The articulating screen can be a useful feature, but I have to confess that I rarely use it, since that would mean using live view, which causes too much shutter lag.
I use the camera mainly for portraits and landscapes, and it performs beautifully for these.
I love the four-thirds format and the smaller bodies and lenses it affords. I'd certainly buy this camera again.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera:
I purchased this camera in October and have been truly enjoying it. It's really easy to operate. Most people find that the overwhelming number of buttons on the camera makes it too complex to use. I, however, find them to be a time saver as I can make quick adjustments much faster to get the shot I want. I love that it's super lightweight and compact. The viewfinder is a bit small but not a deal breaker. LCD is nice and bright an the live view is a nice feature to have in special situations.
Overall, I'm glad I made this purchase. Great camera.

I use the Olympus E-620 SLR for underwater photgraphy, and so far found it fantastic.
Using it with a 14-54mm lens, inside the Olympus housing, I can get great macro shots and zoom out to catch brilliant wide angle shots.
If only it had video recording.. but hey you can't always get everything in one package!

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera:
I have always used Olympus because it is good value for the money- and that goes back to the OM series. The E-620 is as well. It is a great upgrade from my E-420 and here's why: crisper image(more pixels), improved user friendly controls, better AF, great Art Filters, better ergonomics, Image Stabilasation, good metering, wireless flash. And, with all E Series DSLR's those fantastic Zuiko lenses are hard to beat for any $$$.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera:
I am very happy with the improvements made over the E-520 when using it for low light photography. I could have spent more and done a little better but my investment is in Olympus gear and I love the photos it is capable of producing. Even the moderate low light drawbacks can be managed with a little thought on the settings used and the use of good software to process the RAW files produced in those circumstances.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera:
Camera is used for outdoor photos, birds, wildflowers, scenery. Small size and weight are pluses. My big hands don't have much room to hold on to things but that's ok with me. Useful but not great ISO range. Big improvement over my E-300! Quicker, more accurate focusing is a plus. More ISO settings are very much appreciated.
Minus - Art settings are a bit odd and not too useful for me. Shooting through the LCD is odd. Takes a while to focus and shoot. Handy to see manual image changes though!
In all a decent camera for the price. Canon and Nikon are better products unless you get the very pricey Zuiko pro line lenses. But my basic lens collection does well, just not great in low light. IS helps a bit and I'm glad it's in the camera body, not the lenses.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera:
I've been using the E-500 for three years and I've been happy with Olympus. I upgraded to the E-620 primarily for the increase to 12 MegaPixel sensor which gives me the ability to crop tighter and print larger. I also got image stabilization (+++) and crisper image, and new sighting options. Also improved ISO management.
Olympus is a relatively inexpensive way to get a high quality DSLR. And B&H has deals that can't be beat.

Compact size, Optical View finder, light weight, good value for price, swivel LCD. I compared this to the smaller Nikons and the Panasonics. This was a better choice.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera:
I use my camera for a wide range of shooting, but focusing on travel.
The 620 added several bells and whistles which have enabled a high amount of customization to my camera, but also image stabilization to all of the lenses I already own. All that with very little increased weight or size.
It also adds a very different looking noise to pictures thanks to the new sensor. There appears to be more noise in both RAW and JPEGs, and this not only due to the larger sensor, that is, if you reduce the pictures to the 10 MP size of the 420 the noise is still higher. However, and this really must be noted, not only will non-pixel peepers think I am crazy for even pointing it out (you're not like to see this noise on all but the largest prints) but it is a rather pleasing noise indeed, primarily luminosity and very little chroma noise.
Film use to look like this too! It's a great camera with many features well outside of its class and an easy upgrade for Olympus uses. I recommend it for travelers (olympus' excellent lenses are often lighter than their VR/OS cousins) and the feature set is outstanding for an enthusiast beginner who wants the most flexibility without jumping into a $1000+ camera.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera:
Superb building quality, the "hand feeling" of the fiberglass plastic is definitely much better than the building quality of the plastic cast of 500D.
Light weight
Art filters, very useful
Good colour tone
The illuminated buttons are good design
Satisfactory auto WB
7 points AF are enough for beginners
The portrait quality is very good and natural, esp. using the lens 12-60 SWD
The ISO control , still need further improvement
Live view mode: the AF is slower compared with using view finder
Larger view finder is better
The LCD monitor can't present a kind of purple colour correctly, though the image is normal.
I like E620, very light weight and compact in size. The building quality showed the Olympus is a company that really want to manufacture good DSLR. The concept of 4/3 is really dependent on what you believe. Overall, E620 can fulfil most of the daily need, especially with the lens of 12-60 SWD.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-620 SLR Digital Camera:
I do a lot of shooting, mostly action shots and the 620 does great! I shoot horse training clinics and races and I can shoot 3000 or more pictures on a weekend. The continuous shooting is great and really fast. The pictues are really good.
The down side would be the change in battery from the E-500 to the E-620. Didn't realize and had to buy more batteries. Extra expense there. But what I really don't like is the grip on the E-620 is nearly none existant. After a day of shooting my had really aches. If you don't do the shooting I do you probably won't have a problem.
