Delkin has done a great job of designing this simple, but useful LCD shade and screen protector. It easily installs right over the eyecup, LCD and buttons by basically replacing the existing eyecup. The 5 buttons below the LCD have exactly the same icons and simply overlay the existing buttons so no funtion is lost or changed. The pop-up shade works great on those sunny days when the reflection makes it difficult to see the LCD. It shades the top and both sides. If you don't want the shade, it is easily removed. Finally, the product provides a permanent LCD screen protector to keep the camera's screen in perfect condition. Overall the design is simple and elegant. It integrates well with both the look and function of the camera.
Note: Adding this to your camera may require a change to your picture taking and previewing work flow. The shade needs to be in its closed position or removed in order to use the viewfinder. This means that you will have to open or remove the shade in order to preview your shots on the LCD. Not a huge deal since the shade is primarily for those times when sun and reflection are a problem.

At first glance this product looks just like what I needed to keep my nose from smearing up the screen on the camera. It also has the nice added feature of a pretty good protective cover for the screen and saves the buttons and lettering on the body (paint won't rub off as quick).
After using it for 2 weeks, I can safely say this isn't worth the money. The first time I took it out shooting, the rubber eyepiece fell off due to poor fit.
On my second week, the camera strap ever so lightly got snagged in the shade while it was open (which is not hard to do at all) and quicker than I could blink an eye, it had snapped one of the side spring loaded flaps out of place and broke the tiny little plastic stick that holds it into place (effectively ensuring I couldn't fix it myself).
I've pretty much cut my losses on this product and will never buy anything from Delkin again. If they are going to make something so flimsy, they should at least include spare parts with the product.

This is a very handy product. I don't know why I haven't purchase one until now. This shade cuts at least 80% of glare when viewing your screen.
Just be careful and don't forget to close it before your next shot if you're using the viewfinder.

I owned many Pop-p Shades for my 50D the Delkin is the best one even if it is thicker than the generic one.
The Flimsy mechanism is what prevents the 5th star.

Comments about Delkin Devices Pop-Up Shade for Canon 50D DC50D-P:
Cheaply constructed. Flimsy plastic side doors. One door broke off after four months. Opens roughly. It does provide protection for the LCD screen. Delkin would only replace it if I shipped the original back at my cost. After postage, packaging, insurance, and the trip to the post office it would cost almost as much as a new one.

The pop up shade was very easy to attach to my camera and it provides ample coverage from the sun. I wish I had purchased it sooner. I would highly reccomend this product to anyone who does extensive photography.

Comments about Delkin Devices Pop-Up Shade for Canon 50D DC50D-P:
I was impressed when having to look at several photos taken outside on a bright day, but even more so when a friend said, 'that is so cool!' The pop-up not only blocks the outside light but protects the view screen. I wasnt expecting much from an inexpensive item, but it looks great and functions well.

Comments about Delkin Devices Pop-Up Shade for Canon 50D DC50D-P:
I use this to protect the camera with a 100-400mm lens attached so that the back will not get banged by my binoculars while hiking.
I'm about to buy another, so obviously still prefer it to nothing. I would worry too much about breaking the LCD screen itself without it.
That said, for my use, getting hit by the binox, it does not stay in place well, so scratches the back of the camera and even the screen a bit.
It does not really last well, the rubber comes off, which I don't care about. The two side pieces fall off and get lost. And, occasionally, the whole thing falls on the ground.
Obviously, I use this differently than most people. So, I don't expect this review to help most people, just that small niche who hike in hopes of seeing wildlife and want the camera out and ready when they see it.
I would recommend this as a necessary kluge. But, improvement in canon's design would be better.
When will canon simply build in protection of the screen?

When it comes to blocking the sunlight so you can view your images when out in the field, it does a great job. But, with that being said, it is flimsie and cheeply made. It has come apart on me twice within the week that started using it. I don't think it was made for longevity.
Would I purchase it again or recommend to a friend...for the price, I think so...it does work great, ya just have to handle it with care!

Comments about Delkin Devices Pop-Up Shade for Canon 50D DC50D-P:
I purchased this to use with my 50D in my trip to Haiti. It continually moved around, and was such a hassle that I took it off when using the Snug It Proskin that protected my camera body. If you are in an environment that is calm and peaceful, with no hassle, it would be fine. But it is not built or designed for any rugged movement.

I use this product mainly to protect the LCD Screen from damage like scratches and other things like my nose.
It's Great because it fits over the LCD with a Glass plate & also protect the Buttons from wear.
Also provides some shade when Pop Up shade is attached for viewing images in bright sun.
Good product, just could be a better fit around the seems.
