I had to replace the fujitsu 60 gb harddrive that came with my laptop, and wanted to get the largest IDE HDD i could for the best value. I had no problem removing and replacing then cloned my original partition onto the 320 GB WD. and everything is working beautifully.

[...] Drive was easy to install, partitioned to have both XP and Linux. Copied my existing XP partition as it is and the system was up and running.Later installed Linux on the remaining/left over space, have dual boot and both OS's are working fine. The system is been up for a month and its doing good.

Easy to install, runs great! I digitized my music CD library, and this hard drive was just what the doctor ordered. I do a little bit of computer graphics too, and this drive gives me plenty of space to work with. I highly recommend this drive.

I ordered this drive as a replacement for an older laptop. It has a great capacity at an even greater price. Just like a Navy SEAL its fast and whisper quiet while it gets the job done. I am impressed.

INSTALLED AND OPERAING IN LESS THAN ONE HOUR.
BRINGS THE OLDER (FIVE YEAR OLD) IDE LAPTOP UP TO THE HARD DRIVE CAPACITY OF THE NEWEST UNITS. SAVE PHOTO, VIDEO, AND AUDIO FILES WITH NO FEAR OF RUNNING OUT OF SPACE. KEEP IN MIND, MORE CAPACITY IS REQUIRED TODAY WITH THE HIGHER MEGAPIXEL CAMERAS. COMBINED WITH HIGHER Ghz CPU (2.13) AND MAX RAM (2GB), THERE IS NO NEED TO BUY A NEW COMPUTER. FASTER THAN MANY DESKTOP COMPUTERS, WITH A GENEROUS HD CAPACITY. THIS IS THE GREATEST. I'M VERY PLEASED. THE LAPTOP I INSTALLED THIS IN, WAS MARKETED WITH A 40GB AND 60GB HD IN 2005/2006 AND 512MB RAM.

Until SSD PATA offerings match the price and capacity in the 2.5" form factor, this WD 320GB drive is the only one worth owning. I have an older laptop that received a significant performance boost when I swapped out the laptop's original slower 40GB drive. Since B&H had the best price on the 'net, the decision to purchase here couldn't have been a better one. Thanks B&H!

bought this to upgrade the 40gb toshiba drive that came with my dell latitude d610, have no regrets at all:
- new drive doubled read performance of the old drive, went from ~28mb/s to nearly 60mb/s !
- no noticeable decrease in battery performance
- slight whir noise during normal operation and occasion click of the head parking but not really bothersome
upgrade was easy, the only downside with these larger IDE drives is that you cant reliably boot from any partition that extends beyond what the bios can see (in my case, 137gb) so i have my /boot partition and my windows xp installation in 2 partitions below the magic 137gb mark and all works well

I wanted to upgrade the storage on my Sony laptop but it does not use the SATA connections so I could not upgrade to 500GB. This 320GB drive was the best (only!) ATA drive available and I'm quite happy with the simple transition to my new hard disk.
I elected to "start over" by installing Windows XP and then each program as I needed, rather than port over all the old programs and settings from the other hard disk.
My other hard disk was a 7200 RPM 100GB drive which ran hotter. I don't really notice the difference in speed but I definitely notice that my mouse-hand is not getting roasted by the fan heat!
Very happy with my purchase - althought I would have preferred 500GB or greater size.

Got this to replace the original drive in a Titanium Powerbook G4 DVI. It works just fine. Note that all of the screws removed to replace the drive are Torx 8. I saw instructions somewhere saying that some of them were T9, but that wasn't my experience.
