I bought this drive to hold digital movies for my Mac. I have entrusted it with old family videos and so far it appears to be as solid as could be expected.
The drive appears to be solidly built-- I was worried that its design would not make it as stable (standing up), but that is not the case at all.
The only design I do not like about this drive is that the on/off button does not appear to be as straight forward as other drives I have seen.
All things considered, I would not hesitate to purchase this drive again. I am very happy with my purchase, especially at its current price vs. its competitors.

Love the quad interface. Come preformated for Mac which is a real time saver. I have had some trouble connecting two of these daisychained via firewire 800/400 on both of my Macs. They only recognize the first drive (deducted 1 star for this) I am sure there is a solution out there, but I shouldn't have to search for it...it should just work. I deducted a second star because the drive did not ship with the latest firmware (which causes the guage on the front to be screwy), updating it was easy...but again, I shouldn't have to.

I specifically bought this for the quad interface and the physical power switch. You can only use one of the quad at a time which is no big deal.

Fast reads and writes, three options for connectivity, quiet and sleek design. I have no cons to list. Pros are that is is small enough to put down on a shelf out of the way, and that it is sleek and modern looking.

I love my 2TB My Book Studio Edition. It looks great next to my MacBook Pro, and the Firewire 800 connection is fast. The only thing I did not appreciate is that Western Digital ships the drive with a backup program, WD Anywhere Backup, which is not compatible with Snow Leopard, and there is no update available. I use Time Machine of course to back up my MacBook Pro, but I also previously used the WD Anywhere Backup with Leopard on a regular basis to back up my other external hard drives, e.g. family pictures, movies, etc.

Daily connected via FW800 to my iMAC - Finally I don't have to copy all files on internal HD to be able to work on them - I can work on 50-60 photos directly - Very silent.

Comments about Western Digital 2TB My Book Studio Edition Quad Interface External Hard Drive:
I use this primarily for home office back up. Initially, I was impressed with the overall design and the compact size of the hard drive. However, I did run into problems having it mount on my desktop with the firewire cables. Only connecting it with the USB cable was it able to mount properly. A small glitch, but not great if you want to use firewire & free up your USB ports. This unit is incredibly quiet, much more than my previous HDs that I've used. Overall, I'm happy with it.

Comments about Western Digital 2TB My Book Studio Edition Quad Interface External Hard Drive:
We use a Windows based system and had to reformat the drive for use with Windows first. If you are unsure how to do this, the drive has an easy to follow walk through which only took a few minutes before the drive was reformatted and ready to use in Windows. We have used the drive so far with both the firewire 800 and e-sata connections. Both performed to our expectaions and would recommend either, but the e-sata is noticibly faster and consitantly produced much higher data transfer rates than the firewire 800.
