Great accesory to have in order to be in the picture,allows remote shutter control. Not as small as another camera brands remotes. Overall I'm happy to have it and I will make good use of it.Also allows remote control playback with the camera connected to an HDTV.

It is everything it was advertised to be! Very excellent at showing photos on hd tv! Smart usage as remote for pix taking!!!!!

This product is really good. I used this remote commander for my school project. It was a stop-animation movie for Graphics and Design class. With this remote I didn't have to click the shutter button each time I want to take the picture. It really saved my time and energy!

The not-so-good side of this remote is it can;t be used for any other setting except Intelligent Auto. I changed the setting to Aperture Priority or Scene Selection and the camera shutter wouldn't work. It only worked with Intelligent Auto.

I haven't use this remote for viewing photos in TV yet, so I can;t give any comment for that. This remote is really useful, especially in my case and I would recommend this to other people!

Allows you to control many of the features on the Camera at a distance and without imparting motion to the camera... Very handy for taking group shots with the photographer in them, and also for low light stills of things like the moon...

Works very well. Took some time to figure out how to use it with the NEX system, but works amazing. Wish it had more features other than just shutter and 2 sec when shooting

Nice small remote. Works well once I figured out how to enable it in the Alpha setup menu. Like the fact that it has two types of shutter release. Good for self portraits.

Finlay i managed to get a remote that worked on my A390, and although im not using all the functions on it, it suites my needs perfectly.
I would like also just like to mention Jon who spent a fair amount of time with me in store helping me out with my purchase.

Use this product with my NEX5 camera. Seems to have good range and will trigger the camera within 20 ft. I was also surprised at how well it bounces the signal as it reliably triggers the camera from most angles, even from behind the camera.

Would be nice if it was able to trigger the movie mode but not the end of the world.

The remote is very good and considerably better that cheaper generic ones.

A big problem for my is that it cannot control the video recording feature of the Nex-5N. I use to shoot some videos of me playing the piano and I'd like to start/stop the video recording with the remote. No way to do this, it only works for photography.

If Sony fixes that problem I'd give it 5 starts.

The product is used in two ways:

1. As a remote shutter release, operating instantly or after a two second delay, or,

2. Whilst the camera is connected to an HDMI TV, as a replication of the camera controls when operating in review mode. It'll do a slide show, permit zoom in/out, image delete, etc. Even the camera Menu can be accessed and the setup changed.

The only disappointment was that when using the device as a remote shutter control, the 2-second button does not incorporate mirror lift-up, as the (A580) camera does when operating the shutter with the camera button.

Otherwise - a really useful addition to the camera bag.

I ordered this item expecting a simple remote controler for my new camera (Sony A850). It came with a protective film between the battery and the contacts to preserve battery life, which made sense. When trying to remove the film it tore and didn't come all the way out, when I tried to open the battery compartment I found that it could not be opened even when tring to pry it open. I had to stop short so as not to break it.

B&H is replacing it for me and I expect to find the next one in better shape but who knows.

I love my remote commander for my sony alpha 580, but I will say its not just the remote...I have ordered lens and camera's from B&H and everything is wonderful when ordering through them. They are a great company with great product and they are always helpful when you call with any questions. I love everything i have ordered and I LOVE B&H !!!!

There are a lot of cheap fakes and alternatives on the market for less than $5, but they don't offer the full functionality of this OEM remote.

Still more than I would like to spend on something that should be included with the camera, but definitely worth the money if you want to take full advantage of the Sony Alpha / NEX series cameras (might work on more).

works fine, just wish it had a better system than an ir emitter so you could control it from more than a "direct-ish" line of sight.

I purchased this handsome Remote Commander model #RMT-DSLR1 with the nifty red Alpha logo, so that I might remotely release the shutter of my Alpha NEX-5 camera. Of the seventeen functions available, only two are related to the camera, 1)shutter release 2) 2 second delay of shutter; does a mighty fine job as long as you're "facing the camera" (USE FROM THE FRONT ONLY, as designed, use of the remote on the sides or behind camera, is not supported. For all Alpha cameras except a35, a100. Wired remotes RM-L1AM (16 feet, Long) or RM-S1AM (18 inches, short)only has one button, and one function; "shutter release" from any position (wired remote not compatible with the NEX-3,NEX-5). I willingly purchased this beauty, and i'm neither employed by the good folks here, nor paid to produce such notable and worthwhile copy. I hereby confer three stars upon this outstanding piece of marketing!
