The Mac mini Desktop Computer from Apple is a quiet and compact desktop computer. The system, only 6.5" square and 2" high, is a great option for users who would like an inexpensive, yet fully-functional, desktop Mac.
The computer ships with Apple's popular iLife '09 software suite which includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, iWeb, and GarageBand. Also included is Apple's innovative Front Row application, which allows you to connect your computer to a home entertainment center for use as a media player.
The system is powered by 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and includes 1GB of RAM, a 120GB hard drive, a slot-loading SuperDrive, Bluetooth, AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi, and integrated nVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics. Mac OS X Leopard is the installed operating system.

switched from windows, finally tired of all the problems. so far the Mac has worked with most of my equipment (all but a certain scanner), installation very easy. fast startup, fast web-surfing. looks great on my vga screen. very quiet.
only web issue I didn't know- some web sites will not allow some of their services with the Mac platform. will replace all my windows units someday.

I have been a computer tech for over 5 years now and I'm ashamed to say that this is the 1st Mac that I have ever owned. I bought it wanting to learn how to use them, and let me tell you, this is one amazing computer. I purchased this one because it is the cheapest one on the market, but as smooth and fast as it runs, there isn't more anyone needs. WIth the stock hardware, Photoshop CS4 runs like a dream.

It's small and quiet. Well designed and do everything we need (music, movies and internet browsing). We connected it to our HD monitor and sound system. The digital sound output and 1920 x 1080 resolution make this small low cost box the perfect choice.

I purchased this for Apple iPhone application development. Compared to my $2000 PC, it is a lot slower but now I am using it as my everyday main desktop.
Since it is very small and quiet, you will set it on your desk and from time to time you will forget about it! (sound a little corny, right? but it is true.) The included set of software is more than capable, and I really enjoy using iLife.
One thing I still miss is Microsoft office. I could buy Office 2008 for Mac or use something like OpenOffice, but instead I am running a virtual desktop with Vista and Office 2007 for PC. Now I can open Word docs on OS X just like any other OS X application. For this, instead of using the included bundle software, I purchased a VMware Fusion 2. Including this virtual desktop software, I almost spent $300 more for HDD(500GB)/memory(4GB) upgrades and an external HDD (for Time Machine, a backup feature for OS X, very useful). I am very satisfied now, and I might not need to keep my old PC anymore.
If you are a 3D gamer, however, I would recommend to spend a little more to buy a more powerful Mac (or actually why not stick to a PC?). This Mac's video capability is not strong enough to handle something like Crysis. Besides that, I highly recommed this machine to anyone who requires a stable, well-designed, and versatile desktop.

The Mini is perfect for my home theater. The base model has more than enough processing power and hard drive space. I upgrade the memory to 4GB by following a YouTube tutorial and now the system flies. Attach an external FireWire 800 drive and there's little left to be desired. Core2Duo, NVidia integrated graphics, Gigabit ethernet, 160GB HD and 4GB RAM [$] is an incredible value.

Very nice little system. If you're not a heavy gamer or in need of quad-core power, this Mini has everything you need. It's way faster than my year and a half old dual-core Athlon X2 PC, and it takes up virtually no room at all. Also, it's by far the quietest computer I've ever had or seen for that matter. The best part about it though is the stability and security that comes with running a Mac. No more constant worrying about viruses or freezes or total crashes. The Mini is rock solid!! It takes a minute to get used to the Apple interface after using a PC for so long, but it's quick to pick up and definitely more user friendly once you get familiar with it. No complaints here at all. I'm just sorry I didn't pull the trigger on buying the Mini sooner.
P.S. - I really like the Rocketfish Bluetooth keyboard and mouse I bought. Much cheaper than the Apple versions and perform better in my opinion.

When we finally decided to say goodbye to our old iMac (still working) we kept the keyboard and mouse, bought a nifty flat screen lcd monitor, and plugged it all into our new mac mini. It runs flawlessly, web sites pop up almost almost instantly. and photoshop flys. I should have updated my home computer months ago. And The Price was very affordable.
cons only has (1)firewire 800 port wish it had a fire wire 400 port also for my existing external hd.
