The Time Capsule from Apple is an Internet router with a built-in hard drive, designed for use with OS X Leopard's Time Machine backup software. It can backup your Mac over Wi-Fi, ensuring that your data is always protected. It even features a USB port for printer and hard disk sharing.
The router allows you to share your Internet connection between several computers via the draft 802.11n wireless protocol. It also features three standard 10/100/1000Mbps RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet ports. The router is fully backwards compatible with legacy 802.11a/b/g devices.
The Time Capsule features a firewall to protect you from malicious software that can attack your computer from the Internet, as well as wireless security to insure that your data remains private. It can serve as an Internet router for both Macs and PCs.

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (500GB) (Early 2009):
A great device that was very easy to set up since I'm not much with computers. Having a guest network is also a great advantage and the back-ups have been flawless. I was a bit nervous initially thinking it couldn't be as easy as they said it would be - they were right.

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (500GB) (Early 2009):
I am a Mac user and so wanted to take advantage of the Time Machine feature. Also wanted to store all my music, movies and multimedia and have it accessible via WI-FI anywhere in the house on my laptop (which is it's greatest & only true advantage over all other external HDs!!). For backup and large file transfer, Ethernet cable hookup is definitely recommended, it is way too slow when performed wireless (I am also on a 802.11g wireless network, you'll probably have faster results on a 802.11n wireless network). So if you need a good EXT HD, a WI-FI base station and wireless HD accessibility all packaged into one, this is the gear for you.

Great product! My only disapointment that I was under the impresssion for all the literature I read on the product that my USB Epson Printer would be able to print wirelessly. However, after installation and e-mails to both Epson and Apple, that was not to be.
