This was the first Manfrotto product that I have ever bought and I must say that I'm surprised of the value of this stand. I bought a pair to use to hold up studio strobes. They are strong, sturdy, and the air cushion is very smooth. They fold flat and have a locking system on each one so they can be locked into each other for easy transport.

I am a professional photographer shooting for weddings and commercial assignments. Manfrotto is always an excellent bet, except for here it seems. There is a tiny clip attached to the stand by two really weak pins. Turning that clip/lever is supposed to allow you to tighten/loosen the legs. The pins holding the clip on snapped the third time I used it (I had to find a pair of pliers to get it down and back home). The second stand I bought, the pins have yet to snap, however, the pins are attached to a screw/nut system, so that instead of tightening or loosening the legs, it simply turns the whole screw around in the hole. It's clearly a new design they were trying that has failed. Go with a stand that has the traditional knobs to tighten or loosen the legs.

Comments about Manfrotto 1005BAC Alu Ranker Light Stand, Black Air Cushioned - 9' (2.7m):
I use this stand for a remote flash unit, but it can hold up to 22 lbs. It has the quality and ease of operation that I have come to expect from Manfrotto. The stackable feature for mulitple stands is a great idea.

Comments about Manfrotto 1005BAC Alu Ranker Light Stand, Black Air Cushioned - 9' (2.7m):
For studio strobes with large soft boxes. These stands are well made and support the added weight of large soft boxes installed on my flash heads. The air cushion feature is well worth having.

Comments about Manfrotto 1005BAC Alu Ranker Light Stand, Black Air Cushioned - 9' (2.7m):
I have 3 of these stands and I really like the way they stack and transport. They provide a solid base for moonlights and up to medium sized soft boxes in studio settings. The only reservation I have is the tab used to tighten the legs. While it hasn't broken yet it feels like the weakest point of the stand. Having said that I highly recommend them

A very stable and heavy duty light stand.
I have used, and have been very happy with Manfrotto products for years as I worked in a photo studio. Now that I am on my own as a freelancer, buying Manfrotto just makes sense and I am never disappointed.
I am glad I went with this model for my strobe and soft box needs. The load capacity of 22lbs vs the 11lb models really shows up in the thickness and stability of the stem.

I saw Mark Wallace's reviews of these and went ahead and purchased them and am very satisfied with my purchase. I am going to add a few more to my setup.
Very easy to set up, very well made, they stack flat. There is nothing not to like.
Sturdy enough for my needs at home or on location.

Comments about Manfrotto 1005BAC Alu Ranker Light Stand, Black Air Cushioned - 9' (2.7m):
Sturdy enough for my Profoto Airs, provided I use sandbags for added stability, and pretty light to carry around. I decided on buying these because of the stacking function and they were very well, however the reason I am giving them 4 stars is because it sometimes takes additional effort to make them lock, the system is very good and it might requiere just getting used to it. Once they re locked it is great to be able to carry them as one single stand without them bouncing and moving around. They stay locked and do not move at ll while being transported. The large Manfrotto bag can sore 4 of these and it is a very convenient way to transport them.

as expected, very nice considering the price. one thing is the leg is not streching enough and this makes me little worry cause it may fall easily. other than this, excellent.

I use this as a boom pole holder. Folding up flat is great for storage and the air cushioned tiers prevent your boom pole from accidentally smacking your interview subject in the head!

This is a great stand. Sturdy, easy to open and close. As a new studio owner, you try to start out lean where you can and I wish I had four more of these stands. Great quality and build. I will definately be purchasing more when the need arises.

Great stand, but did not fit in my stand case, I was trying to match a bogan 3361 but Manfrotto does not have a cross ref.# to get a match. SHAME on them.

After a few years of cheap stands, I wanted something that would hold the weight of studio pack heads.
I love these. Typically great Manfroto build. A really nice feature is the nest together for storage and transporting. A button click releases them from each other.

I use this light stand to hold a 7 pound monolight and it does the job easily. Easy to set up and break down and folds flat for easy storage and transport. If you have more than one they lock together when folded flat. I plan on buying more soon.

Comments about Manfrotto 1005BAC Alu Ranker Light Stand, Black Air Cushioned - 9' (2.7m):
The reason I think this light stand is the one of the best is because...
1) It is almost 100% metal (no plastic junk parts to loosen over time or crack/break.
2) If you have more than one of these stands, you can stack them together so they don't flop around in the back of your car (or in a bag).
3) It's rock-solid sturdy.
It may not be the lightest stand out there, or the cheapest, but it's one of the best (if not the best) quality stand out there for the 9 foot range. Would I buy it again, absolutely...I'm planning on getting 2 more soon!

This stand replaces one from Interfit that I got as part of a kit with a a 5-in-1 reflector.
This Manfrotto stand is remarkably secure, and can hold a 42" reflector without any sandbags/weights needed (I have the reflector on a Photoflex reflector arm, which is also great).
I'm also planning on using the stand with some off-camera strobe.
I would definitely buy this item again (or buy another one when needed).
Highly recommended!

Love the Manfrotto light stand, attractive with black finish, air damping and 22lb capacity. Will be purchasing a couple more of these beauties. In retrospect wish I would have purchased the 3 pack, I could have saved a few bucks.
