The Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens utilizes an anti-shake compensation function, with a 13.8 times zoom ratio. This lens's Hybrid Optical Stabilizer provides not only an anti-shake function for the camera body, but also compensates for image shaking in the view finder as the Optical Stabilizer is built in to the lens.

Four special low dispersion glass elements and three aspherical lens elements, results in excellent image quality throughout the entire zoom range. With a minimum focusing distance of 17.7" at all focal lengths and a maximum magnification of 1:3.4 reproduction ratio, this wide-range zoom is great for close-up photography as well as for telephoto shooting.

Note! This lens is only for APS-C / DX sensors (not full frame).

Positives: Well built, fast focus, HSM is great, OS working well, zoom-reach is fantastic!

Negatives: OS is very "funky"! If you keep the lens in your hand off the body and turn it, you feel the OS moving inside! The other thing I don't like is that you can't manual focus the lens while in auto focus mode, like you can with Nikon's 18-200mm.

Overall: Images sharp, great all-in-one lens, just as good as Nikon's 18-200 if not better in image quality, focus speed and of course, zoom-range!

I've replaced my Nikon all-in-one with this one, and I have no regrets, even though the "stuck - focus ring" is a bit annoying, or at least, takes time to get used to.

I was very tempted to give this lens a 1 Star rating. I decided otherwise because the optics are great. It is the electronics that have issues. This lens will not operate in AF-C mode, nor will it focus during video or live view mode. This is a definite 1 Star, other than the fact that Sigma will update the firmware in the lens for a fee, $10 in my case. This should be free. For that matter, as this lens and the cameras that require this have been out for OVER A YEAR, this lens should be shipping with the correct firmware already flashed! Keep this in mind... this is a great lens, as long as you send it in for the firmware upgrade. If you are having focus problems, specifically ones that are corrected by removing the lens from the camera body and reattaching it, then you have firmware issues.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:

I've been looking for something universal at an affordable price for some time now. I dont take pictures every day, not a pro and I can't justify buying an expensive original lens for my needs. This lens with it's 18mm (a little less with a cropped SLR) gives me the ability to take good pictures inside (assisted with an external flash and diffuser wen darker) and great pictures outside. The zoom is the solution to not switching between lenses all the time. When you'r going somewhere and you just want to grab the camera and go, this lens is the solution. You don't have to remember about the bag, other lenses and later there will be no problem with jumping between a wide angle and zoom. Because lets face it, if you have a cropped SLR and take pictures occasionally then you're no pro and for casual photography you need something that will motivate you to take the photos not weigh you down every time you change scenery.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:

The 18-250 is my all the time lens. I really do not need to put another lens on my D300s unless I want a faster f-stop.

This is the perfect walk around lens. There is no need to carry 2-3 lenses when walking around taking images. I used it during a couple of different shoots and it turned out some good results.

The flower pedal hood comes off very easily. It is nothing that a small piece of eletical tape can't cure. Another photographer was haveing the same problem with his Nikon lens so I did not feel bad at all and shared a piece of tape with him.

The motor does run a bit long on the auto focus but I can live with it.

If your camera have more thant 11 Mpxl, I think they will be usless with this lens. The picture is not sharp at all at 1:1 zoom. It is less sharp at the edges and it have alot of chromatic distortions. I found the zoom very stiff. It is also relatively heavy. The autofocus is noisy when used in video. I returned it to B and H for a refund. I realised rarely make pictures above 150mm so I buyed the 18-105mm Nikon lens. This is a sharp lens.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:

I bought this lens to combine my 18-55 and my 55-200 Nikon kit lenses. I was tired of needing to carry 2 lenses when I knew I could combine them into 1. I was originally looking at the 18-200 but for the price I opted to go for the extra 50 mm.Unlike some of the other reviews I have read about this lens,I have not had an issue with the lens not working in the "C" mode on my Nikon D300s. I guess they fixed the problem or maybe it was just the D3100. I have used the Nikon 18-200 and to tell you the truth I can not see a difference in the images that I have taken with Nikon or Sigma lenes. This lens does have a little bit of weight to it compared to a kit lens of 18-55 but it is lighter then a 70-200 F2.8 lens. For all those who complain about a lens being heavy be glad you did not use old glass when the tubes were made from metal and the glass was real glass. For me this is my all in 1 lens. I do not see myself using this lens in low light as I have faster glass for that but as a walk around lens this fits the bill. I do not have to worry about carrying more than 1 lens now and this reduces my sensor from getting dust on it.I would recommend this lens to anyone who is looking for an all in one lens. This lens is great for walking around, portraits, studio work, and street photography. The barrel seems a bit tight around 50 mm which is fine by me as that tells me what focal lenght I am near. It seems to focus fast for me so far. This lens is well worth the money.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:

My second Sigma lens (also have the 8-16mm which I love)for Nikon DX. Have only had it 2 weeks but already have shot about 500 frames in many different scenarios. (street, car shows, nature, portraits) In ideal conditions it excels. In lower light it responds as expected for the specs, price & range, but I haven't had any issues. Of course the most important thing is picture quality which I would rank at about 4 & 1/2 stars, comparable to my similar spec'd Nikkor 55-200mm. Very sharp at the wide end & no problem achieving smooth bokeh at the longer end of the zoom. Bottom line, at least for me, this lens does exactly what it says it does for the price & as a result it has spent the majority of time on my D5000 since I got it & really works as a good multi-purpose walk around.

I bought this lens because it works well with NIKONS. A photographer friend of mine likes the Sigma lenses so I bought this beauty and so far it's working great. I gave it to my 30 something daughter as she wants simplicity in her camera gear - she has 3 kids and wanted to be able to grab the camera and shoot...without having to change lenses. This fits her needs

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:

I have a Nikon D3100 camera, that came with the standard lens up to 55 mm. I had bought an additional Nikkor lens for Nikon, that went up to 300 mm for greater distance. While they are both decent lenses, I still haven't been blown away by them. I bought this lens for a Cancer Walk that I was asked to shoot. I wanted a lens that could serve as an "in between" lens. I really couldn't find much for a reasonable price with Nikon or Nikkor lenses for Nikon cameras. Then I stumbled on to this gem! I absolutely love this lens! It was a great price for me & even cheaper than Nikon's lenses of the same range. For me, I found that this lens produced a more clear, crisp & vibrant photo for me. It was compatible for my particular Nikon camera. It actually offers more "perks" in a lens than the Nikon or Nikkor lens do, that were of the same photo range. And I love that it will do macro shots, as well as, long distant shots, without having to change lenses out. It's a mulit-purpose lens. I would highly recommend this lens!! The only thing that I can say that might be considered a negative is: it does make a noise when adjusting focal ranges and it is a little stiff when on manual focus. You get used to it though. I was shooting on continuous shooting and at one point, it did have a little trouble keeping up with me & I had to stop for a few seconds, turn it off, then back on and it was fine. I think I pushed it too far, (I came away from the Cancer Walk with over 800+ photos.) Also, it is a little heavier than my other lenses, but so what. I can handle those little annoyances, considering the quality of photo it did produce for me!!

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:

This is a great lens to leave on the camera all the time because it'll allow you to shoot subjects that are right next to you, as well as across the room. It could even be used to cover game action at sporting events.

The zoom mechanism of mine has a slight bump of resistance in the middle of it, but it's not distracting.

I didn't give this lens a five star rating because the gyro stabilizer seems to always be on, even when the Optical Stabilizer button is switched to off. When I put my ear up to the lens, I can still hear the gyroscope humming when OS is turned off. The problem with this is not the noise of the mechanism, but the fact that my camera seems to be going through batteries much more quickly with this lens than it did with my previous lens.

First off, let me say that i'm new to photography, but i know quality when i see it. I did a ton of research on lenses in this category and my final decision was between this lens and the Tamron 18-270mm. I went down to the local photo shop and was able to test both of them out and the Sigma won hands down. It focused much faster, took sharper pictures, and feels much more rugged. Some people feel that the weight of the lens is a bad thing, but to me it just feels like it is well built. The Tamron felt cheap! I also haven't had any of the other issues that other people have described like lens creep or battery drain. My current set up is a Nikon D3100 with this lens. I only have about 500 shots with the lens so far and haven't noticed any problems. It was definitely worth the money!

Good all around lens that doesn't disappoint. We use 2 systems in my house: Sony and Nikon and have a Sal 18-250 on the A700. Being very pleased with the results and the versatility of that range I also had to get one for the Nikon D300.

Just did a hike in the Plotter Kill Preserve in Schenectady Co NY on Dec 26. It was about 39 degrees, I took 283 pictures and the lens worked better than I expected. I thought the cold would slow the AF or affect the image stabilizer but the lens worked flawless on my Nikon D200. With one lens, I was able to take wide angle shots, zoom in close, and get good macro pics, all handheld. I have other Sigma lenses from the 35mm days and bought this one for the same Sigma quality.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:

I purchased this lens to reduce the number of lenses I carry on short excursions with my D300. Matched up with ultra-wide zoom and a macro for flora, this lens rounds out my lightweight lineup perfectly. It is quite sharp and focuses rapidly. I use both Nikon and Sigma lenses, but I have always had excellent results with Sigmas and this new one is no exception.

I have finally substituted my two lens by this one. The Autofocus is great. The only problem is that it´s a little bit heavy

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:

I wanted an all purpose lens to replace my other 2 lenses. When you're on the go it's a pain to be switching from my 18-55 to my 55-200. With this one I have it all in one place. Since I bought it a few weeks ago I have not changed lenses once! It's a great value for an amateur like me who does not have a big photography budget yet. I am just starting out and this was a great investment in my opinion.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:

I'm getting to like this lenses the more I use it. I do mostly nature photography I'm getting great pictures with my Nikon 7000 Yes it does feel heavy but then you know you have something in your hand. The lenses locking is needed for sure and you should learn to use it. The only odd thing one has to get use to is with a Nikon lenses you turn to the left to zoom in. With the Sigma you turn to the right to zoom in. Not that big a deal.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:

I got tired of always have 2 lenses with me, my 18-55 and 55-200 or 70-300mm. I was getting to the point that I wasn't using my DSLR and would just use my point and shoot. But seeing this lens, it does what I need. It is quite heavy, heavier than my 70-300mm... but I love the range on it! The auto focus is quick, better than my other Nikon lenses...
