The Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens utilizes an anti-shake compensation function, with a 13.8 times zoom ratio. This lens's Hybrid Optical Stabilizer provides not only an anti-shake function for the camera body, but also compensates for image shaking in the view finder as the Optical Stabilizer is built in to the lens.
Four special low dispersion glass elements and three aspherical lens elements, results in excellent image quality throughout the entire zoom range. With a minimum focusing distance of 17.7" at all focal lengths and a maximum magnification of 1:3.4 reproduction ratio, this wide-range zoom is great for close-up photography as well as for telephoto shooting.
Note! This lens is only for APS-C / DX sensors (not full frame).

Positives: Well built, fast focus, HSM is great, OS working well, zoom-reach is fantastic!
Negatives: OS is very "funky"! If you keep the lens in your hand off the body and turn it, you feel the OS moving inside! The other thing I don't like is that you can't manual focus the lens while in auto focus mode, like you can with Nikon's 18-200mm.
Overall: Images sharp, great all-in-one lens, just as good as Nikon's 18-200 if not better in image quality, focus speed and of course, zoom-range!
I've replaced my Nikon all-in-one with this one, and I have no regrets, even though the "stuck - focus ring" is a bit annoying, or at least, takes time to get used to.

Used with D2h and D70 for walk around and vacations. Focus is fast and accurate, OS worked fine to 1/5 sec. handheld. Auto focus stop working several times during shooting, need to turn off camera power and turn back on to reset and it worked again? OS motor or lens sounds loose inside and dropped with click sound when camera power turned off. May be just the Sigma design of this lens is different from the older 18-200 OS (on Sigma SD14) one I also had and tried for comparison? When focused, images are fine and OS worked OK.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:
Just did a hike in the Plotter Kill Preserve in Schenectady Co NY on Dec 26. It was about 39 degrees, I took 283 pictures and the lens worked better than I expected. I thought the cold would slow the AF or affect the image stabilizer but the lens worked flawless on my Nikon D200. With one lens, I was able to take wide angle shots, zoom in close, and get good macro pics, all handheld. I have other Sigma lenses from the 35mm days and bought this one for the same Sigma quality.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:
I purchased this lens to reduce the number of lenses I carry on short excursions with my D300. Matched up with ultra-wide zoom and a macro for flora, this lens rounds out my lightweight lineup perfectly. It is quite sharp and focuses rapidly. I use both Nikon and Sigma lenses, but I have always had excellent results with Sigmas and this new one is no exception.

I have finally substituted my two lens by this one. The Autofocus is great. The only problem is that it´s a little bit heavy

I wanted an all purpose lens to replace my other 2 lenses. When you're on the go it's a pain to be switching from my 18-55 to my 55-200. With this one I have it all in one place. Since I bought it a few weeks ago I have not changed lenses once! It's a great value for an amateur like me who does not have a big photography budget yet. I am just starting out and this was a great investment in my opinion.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:
I was very tempted to give this lens a 1 Star rating. I decided otherwise because the optics are great. It is the electronics that have issues. This lens will not operate in AF-C mode, nor will it focus during video or live view mode. This is a definite 1 Star, other than the fact that Sigma will update the firmware in the lens for a fee, $10 in my case. This should be free. For that matter, as this lens and the cameras that require this have been out for OVER A YEAR, this lens should be shipping with the correct firmware already flashed! Keep this in mind... this is a great lens, as long as you send it in for the firmware upgrade. If you are having focus problems, specifically ones that are corrected by removing the lens from the camera body and reattaching it, then you have firmware issues.

I'm getting to like this lenses the more I use it. I do mostly nature photography I'm getting great pictures with my Nikon 7000 Yes it does feel heavy but then you know you have something in your hand. The lenses locking is needed for sure and you should learn to use it. The only odd thing one has to get use to is with a Nikon lenses you turn to the left to zoom in. With the Sigma you turn to the right to zoom in. Not that big a deal.

I got tired of always have 2 lenses with me, my 18-55 and 55-200 or 70-300mm. I was getting to the point that I wasn't using my DSLR and would just use my point and shoot. But seeing this lens, it does what I need. It is quite heavy, heavier than my 70-300mm... but I love the range on it! The auto focus is quick, better than my other Nikon lenses...

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:
This lens works well as a very versatile day to day lens. I works in most situations and provides very sharp pictures for the massive focal range you get with it the f/6.3 does require you to have pretty good light so its not the best indoors however with a decent flash you will be ok, the lens does block the view in 18mm when using the camera flash so a speedlight would be wise when shooting indoors. auto focus is mostly quick and accurate however you have to have good light.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:
The first one I purchased locally the autofocus would freeze up occassionally. I liked the lens and the store didnt have a replacement so I purchased one from B+H. This one has worked flawlessly and exceeded my expectations. The OS woked well at full telephoto and I even got clear shots on a moving boat during my vacation. Yes its a "jack of all trades, master of none" but for light traveling its hard to beat. To be able to go from wide angle to telephoto with decent results in one lens is what I was looking for and it did just that.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:
I bought it after doing lots of research. Decided to go with the longer zoom for more $, it was worth it. Still finding my way around the F-stops and manual focus. Manual focusing is easy, but there is a slight drag about 5/8 of the way through the zoom as others have noted about the lenses working together. It is noticeable but no big deal. I reccomend it.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:
I bought this lens to replace the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my D3100. It has exceeded my expectations in taking my camera beyond the capabilities of the "point & shoot" it replaced. The images I get are very clear and sharp and the zoom range is awesome. I'm still new to DSLR digital photography and am learning the capabilities of my camera and lens constantly. This lens gives me the flexibilty to really experiment.
My only negative about this lens is that sometimes the AF loses comunication with the camera. I've found that just ficking the AF switch to manual and then back to AF takes care of the problem though. Kind of a pain, but not enough to lower my rating considering the significant cost savings of this lens over the Nikkor 18-200mm.
My next lens purchase will also be a Sigma! (10-20mm f/4-5.6 by the way)

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Nikon Cameras:
I'm not a photographer. I bought this lens for my wife. She has had it for a little over a week and I think I've used it more than my wife. This lens is great. I did a lot of search on which lens to buy and narrowed it down to two. That's when the decisions got hard. I opted to buy this lens over another lens that zooms from 18-270. My first reason was price. For the almost $200 more you're only getting 20mm more zoom. My second was the amount of online reviews on this lens. I did more rewsear h than most being that I had no idea what I was getting into. After using this lens for a short time I am very immpressed. The ease of use the speed of the focus and the ability to mannually focus if need is impressive. The zoom is stiff but most reviews I read said that will lose up a bit. Also the zoom locks so it will never extend itself and get broken while I'm not using it. I can't beleave this lens was the price it was. Great deal and a great lens.

It's nice to not have to change lenses if you are out and about. Overall I'm pleased with the quality of the pics and the funciton of the lens. I debated the Tamron 18-270 but ultimately chose the Sigma based on my past experiences with Sigma. So far, Still So good. I haven't had any creep issues and the focus is as fast as I expected, so no disappointments here.

I am a hobby photographer by design. I am retired so I take pictures for fun but I expect them to look good enough to hang anywhere. My wife and I are going to Glacier in August and I bought the lens for this trip. The wide range and stabilization were just what I need. I have had the lens for a couple of weeks and I love the way it handles so much, it may never come off the camera.
