The Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens utilizes an anti-shake compensation function, with a 13.8 times zoom ratio. This lens's Hybrid Optical Stabilizer provides not only an anti-shake function for the camera body, but also compensates for image shaking in the view finder as the Optical Stabilizer is built in to the lens.
Four special low dispersion glass elements and three aspherical lens elements, results in excellent image quality throughout the entire zoom range. With a minimum focusing distance of 17.7" at all focal lengths and a maximum magnification of 1:3.4 reproduction ratio, this wide-range zoom is great for close-up photography as well as for telephoto shooting.
Note! This lens is only for APS-C / DX sensors (not full frame).

Focusing very smooth and quick. Zoom action a bit stiff at mid-zoom. Expect that to smooth out with use. Stabilization both Optical and body based works very nicely! Optical performance definately better than the 18-200 KM lens I am replacing. Overall a terrific walk around lens when you need to depend on one or two lenses.

I really liked this lens when it was new but after a month of use the zoom slider and manual focus got really loose. The zoom is so loose that if the lens is tipped more than 30 degrees the zoom will slide in/out on it's own. Returned for repair.

I'm very happy with this lens. The range focus (18-250mm) is excellent for use in travel, tours and trekking. The only negative point is your energy consumption When the stabilizer is switched on and your weight.

I'm happy with the purchase of this lens. The 18-250mm range is perfect for use in travel, tour and trekking
The only negatives are: weight and power consumption when the stabilizer is connected. The autofocus is slow but it is accurate.

I received this lens recently after reviewing lots of other's comments and deciding this was the one for me. You are all right! This is a perfect, one-lens-does-all kind of lens to have with you at all times. The performance is great so far, but I agree, a bit stiff. I am sure using it more will change that. The quality of the shots is great. I would recommend this lens as a great buy. You won't be sorry you bought it. The weight goes with quality and durability so I don't mind it. I have only used this so far in indoor and outdoor, low-light conditions and it works well.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:
Except that it a bit heavy it does everything I expected. One lens for close and telephoto was my goal. Stabilization was not required because the camera has it but the lens on/off is far more convenient so that is the system I use. Fast focus and sharp images for my outdoor fishing photos. Taking it to Canada tomorrow and hoping the Alpha 55 does both movies and stills so one camera is all I need.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:
I bought this lens because of its price, zoom and wide angle capability.
For a hobbyist I do not see any discolour or aberration in portraits and nature pictures.
I recommend it to anyone who does not know what their eventual need is. It is a good general purpose lens to experiment with.
And I like its manual focus ring with the position of the AF-M switch.
Minimum focus is large for my needs, but what do you expect from an under $500 zoom lens.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:
I used the lens to replace my 18-55 sony stock lens. the zoom range farther and the clarity is better in general. Great if you want to shoot mostly in 18mm and occasional telephotos with auto focus. The Optical stabilizer is better than I expected since I got some clear photo shots in a children's jump house. The lens is heavy and tiring to carry it. Not a great portrait since the bokeh is decent but the focal area doesn't shine in the photo like my 35mm prime lens. Overall good lens that does everything but need to shred some ounces.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:
I was originally afraid this lens would have trouble with the Sony A33 and A55 cameras because of the compatibility issue I had been reading online about. I was relieved once I received the package and saw that there was the sticker specifically stating that it is compatible with the A33 and A55 cameras, so fortunately B&H has the new batch of lenses from Sigma.
I have owned this lens for a few weeks now and it has completely replaced my kit lens. I was surprised at how hefty it was initially but now that I am used to the balance I really like it. The zoom range is really great, AF speed is very fast and silent, and the IS lets me take great shots at full zoom. Build quality is very good; the lens feels very sturdy and has a nice rubberized coating. The zoom lock is very convenient as well. I have no complaints.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:
I have been really enjoying this lens since getting it. It is a bit on the heavy side and it somewhat overpowers my a33 (SLT) camera body LOL - but it works great. The range is fantastic, and while I have not done actual tests, I see no immediate quality issues on either side of spectrum, but I am sure that if you looked hard there would be some. Color reproduction is AWESOME, better IMO than the kit lens.
While I do not have zoom creep problems now - I expect this to happen in the future; lens elements are pretty heavy in there and I wish Sigma had a zoom lock at any focal length.
Taking some cool vacations soon, I am happy to take this lens with me everywhere! Bokeh is nice but it is a little harsh, IMO.

I wanted a lens i could just put on and be my do all lens. No lens does everything but this has been a great lens for me. I love just taking off and walking in the woods, one lens.
Very quiet HSM lens.
Focus is fast and accurate.
The in lens image stabilization is fantastic.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:
In the short time that I have used the Sigma mega-zoom, it is doing exactly what I hoped and expected it to do. I'm finally able to go out with but one lens for my Sony DSLR and get very adequate shots -- from wide angle to a telephoto longer than I can hand-hold easily.
Sharpness - adequate to very good
Build - excellent
Auto-focus - good in any kind of decent lighting
It will be the lens left on the body. Given time and a great shot opportunity, I'm sure I'd use one of my 2 primes. That would be most apt to happen for portraits.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:
This lens does very well on my Alpha 700. It has a quick and accurate autofocus and the pictures are sharp and of good contrast. I notice no obvious difference between the cameras and the lens' ability to reduce vibration- both are effective. I use them interchangeably. Altogether, i consider this lens a good buy.

I use this lens on the Alpha 500 from either a monopod or tripod and rarely hand-held for mostly outdoor shooting.
The telephoto capabilities of this lens are great and the wide-angle aspects at 18-24 area make this a multipurpose daily go everywhere lens.
I was finding grainy out of focus pictures at longer focus points until I turned off the Optical Stablizer on lens then things where nice and clear.
I would recomend this lens.

This sigma lens have a very big range. And in my case, it replaced my kit lens forever (I have no use for my 18-70mm lens anymore).
Great quality, as all Sigma lens. Except for a loss of sharpness while zooming. And, by the way, the autofocus is REALLY REALLY fast.
It would be cool if this were more bright. f3.5 still is dark, but that's OK for day-to-day photography...

I use this lens with a550 body. The letters OS mean Optical Stabilization, and this function works very well. Test shots with OS only, Steady Shot only, and both together quickly showed OS only to be the best. Even down to 1/6 sec, rather amazing. Focus is very quick.
