Before I start, I must say that this printer is capable of producing beautiful results!
I decided to wait for about 6 months before I felt that I had adequate experience with it to offer a useful review. I had been using Epson printers for several years and this review will be based on a comparison of these similarly prices units. Before I get into my review of the Canon Pro9000 MKII printer, I will start off discussing my experiences with Epson. I started off with an Epson R1800 printer, which I used for about two years. This printer produced decent results, however the ink consumption was extreme. The cost of ink, per square inch, was about $0.015. In my opinion, this was a resonable printing cost, unfortunately, this cost increased significantly when I was forced to constantly clean the nozzles (due to "banding") using the manual cleaning cycle. Towards the end of this printer's life, I was doing this on a weekly basis. Keep in mind that this cycle consumed about 10% of the total ink supply. Also, the "gloss optimizer" cartridge needed to be replaced constantly. The problem here was that when I replaced this cartridge all of the cartridges would recharge themselves, resulting in a further 10% loss of the total ink supply. Besides the ink consumption issues, this printer produced prints that were plagued with an unacceptable "bronzing" look on all of my portrait shots. I later found out that this is a result of the pigment-type inks that this printer used. After two years this printer finally gave out due to a clogged printer head. No amount of maunual cleaning would correct this problem. So I purchased the next generation Epson R1900 printer. My experience here was a disaster. The first one that I had would engage in an automatic head cleaning cycle every two days. Each cycle consumed 15% of my total ink and I had no way to stop it. After one week I lost almost half of my ink and I only printed off a few 8.5 x 11" prints. I felt that this was unacceptable, so I returned it and picked up another copy. The second copy did exactly the same thing and they both had the horrible "bronzing" look on the skin tones.
At this point I decided that I would give Canon a try. I wanted a printer that could produce 13" x 19" prints and the Pro9000 MKII just came onto the market. My initial thoughts, after printing my first 13" x 19" portrait, were very positive. I did not see any of the bronzing that I noticed on the pigment-based Epson R1900. This is due to the use of dye-based inks that the Pro9000 MKII uses. As far as the Epson R1900 type automatic deep cleaning cycles are concerned, the Canon has never done this. I have printed hundreds of small to large prints and the cartridge comsumption is as follows:
Photo Magenta - 7 cartridges
Yellow - 6 cartridges
Photo Cyan - 5 cartridges
Cyan - 4 cartridges
Magenta - 4 cartridges
Black - 3 cartridges
Red - 1 cartridge
Green - 1 cartridge
My printing covers the spectrum between landscapes to portraits and based on my analysis, the Pro9000 MKII costs about $0.015 / square inch for ink. This printer is very quiet when in use, however during start up in tends to be a little noisy. It is also relatively quick when producing the larger 11" x 14" and 13" x 19" prints. It is a large printer, but so are the other brands that produce 13" x 19" prints. It is well engineered and has a very solid feel to it.
When it comes to picture quality, this printer really shines. When using a properly calibrated monitor and when utilizing the correct printer profiles, this printer will produce outstanding results! It produces vibrant colours for landscapes and very detailed and accurate skin tones for portraits. Please keep in mind that the paper you use will have a significant bearing on the outcome. I have tested several types, including Canon papers, and my personal favorite is Ilford Classic Pearl Paper. This paper, which is designed for ink-based printers only, coupled with this printer, will produce excellent, almost majical, looking portraits.
As far as "bells and whistles" are concerned, it doesn't really have any. It's sole purpose is to produce excellent prints, relatively quickly, and with a minimum amount of ink consumption. And it does this exceedingly well.
I highly recommend this printer!

I am a graphic designer who prints the occasional odd family photo as well. For photo printing, this printer has been fantastic -- rich, saturated colors, etc.
But for my design projects, trying to get accurate, repeatable color prints to show to clients has been more or less impossible. It's not just that colors vary between screen and printer (something that might be fixable with careful color calibration), it's that colors can vary from one page to the next in the SAME print job.
To sum up: the printer produces great colors, just not always the right ones! Designers beware.

I am a graphic and textile designer and I love this printer just as I have loved all my Canon printers - I expect a good many years use out of this one. It performs beautifully- full rich colors. I rarely use it for photographs, but when I do, it's excellent.

I wanted something to give to friends & family a little more special than an 8x10. My standard photo-printer does an excellent job but the keyword is "standard". "Astounding", best defines my first print from the Pro9000.You have to "see" a 5" x 7 1/2" increase in print size to appreciate the difference. It takes a bit more than clicking an icon to make it work, but the results are well worth the effort.

This printer does what it was intended to do, that is print fantastic pictures, in several paper sizes including textured papers, with speed, accuracy and
minimal ink usage. What a big step up from a standard all in one printer.
Canon cannot be beat when it comes to quality. Use their papers and ink for
consistent results. I also got an unbelievable price with rebate. B=H photo
is top notch when it comes to selection, ordering, service, and shipping.

I bought this printer to print high quality photographs. The colors are so vibrant and the quality is so crystal clear. The only drawback is it has a very large footprint, but regardless,I would definitely recommend this printer!
I had a small issue installing the disc on my Mac computer but a quick phone call to Canon and I was good to go in about 5 minutes!

Comments about Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II Inkjet Printer:
I'm a graphic artist/medical illustrator and needed a reliable printer. I did an extensive amount of research between the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and the Canon Pixma Pro9000 and decided on the Canon because of so many problems with the Epson's printhead clogging. I received the Canon in a timely manner and set it up faster than expected. The only setback was that I needed to supply my own USB cord.
Overall, I don't regret my purchase at all and am extremely happy.

If you need lare high quality prints then this is a great printer. The print quality looks amazing noboby believes that I print my pictures at home. and the 13x19 format is great if you are trying to fill a large frame. Other than the printer being huge and not being able to network the printer it is perfect. can't fix huge but the network was easy I set it up connected to my desk top and shared it with my laptop. Easy to do and works like a normal network printer. I have printed enough pictures that it has saved me atleast twice over by not getting photo labs to print for me.

Comments about Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II Inkjet Printer:
I've had this printer now for a month and I love it. I had to return a printer at first because it had paper jams right away, but the second printer works great. It prints quietly and the colors are really vibrant. The only thing is, I'm an artist and when I make prints of my paintings, they come out more intense in color than the original. (I still have to experiment with bringing down Saturation before printing). I think for photographs it's probably a blessing as it makes black really dark, but if you're an artist and want the print to look exactly like the original, it might bother you. But overall I love it and would definitely recommend this printer!

I love the large size prints this printer can produce and the accuracy of color
It does equally well on printing smaller cards and calendars.
My only disappointment is how fast I go through the inks.
Print time is fast and I never have paper jams.
When my first Pro 9000 Mark II wore out, I had to have another.
Nothing compares.

Comments about Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II Inkjet Printer:
My main reason why I wanted to purchase this printer was to print birth prints, home prints on regular cardstock paper. So far the colors have been off from what is shown on my computer. I did calibrate the printer. I am working on this problem. When it comes to printing on photo paper this printer does an awazing job. It is very quiet and prints fast. Just keep in mind this printer is very bulky.

Great printer, colors are very rich for photos and it also works well for graphics and can be used for word processing although it's better for photos. The only reason for not getting 5 stars is that ink is expensive - as is true for almost all photo printers nowadays.

This printer ended up being a lot bigger and more intense than I expected. I would recommend it to professional photographers or graphic designers but not to those looking for a way to print family photos at home. You can probably find a printer that prints perfectly acceptable 4x6 and 5x7 photos for a lot cheaper.

I use this printer to print portfolio sheets. The print quality is high with good quality paper but the ink tanks seem to run out quicker than they do on my Canon i9900.
I have found that it is possible to use 32 lb. paper for lower cost printing. Lighter weigh paper cannot take the amount of ink this printer uses and photo paper, while high quality, can significantly increase the cost per publication.

Very simple to set up with the enclosed set-up guide; I was printing in just a few minutes after inserting the ink. I would have preferred a print copy of the 495 page on-line manual.

Comments about Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II Inkjet Printer:
This is my second wide bed printer. The first, an HP 1220C, is now 11 years old.
Used for general purpose home/hobby printing of maps, text, spread sheets, and photo's.
Accommodates a wide range of media size and type including poster board.
High resolution and small droplets make for smooth almost grainless prints.
Image/text vertical placement is not symmetrical - Top of image is closer to topof page than bottom by as much am .1 inch - can not print directly in the center of the page which results in uneven borders. Canon made excuses, blaming software (Photoshop Elements 1) and suggested using Photoshop Elements 6 or their Easy-PhotoPrint EX neither of which helped. This may be endemic to printers in general as the HP 1220C had the same problem only much worse. Although an Epson C88+ did show near perfect symmetry. Work around - Use a custom page length.
