The Intuos4 Digital Tablet from Wacom is a digital tablet, designed for use by digital artists and photographers. Ideal for use with imaging applications such as Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop, the tablet allows you to manipulate images with a digital pen: ergonomically identical to a traditional ink pen.
The Intuos4 is capable of recording 2048 levels of pressure, giving it the ability to recognize extremely subtle pressure for light brush strokes. It features a bank of customizable ExpressKeys and a finger-sensitive Touch Ring for enhanced control. These controls are located on one side of the tablet, in a symmetrical layout. This allows you to rotate the tablet 180°, giving equal functionality to both lefties and righties.
US residents who purchase this tablet are entitled to additional software from Wacom. You can download Nik Color Efex Pro WE6 and Wacom Brushes 3.0, both of which require Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to function. You are also entitled to your choice of two out of the following three options: Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac & Windows, Autodesk SketchBook Express 2010, and Corel Painter Sketch Pad. This allows you to choose the software that best suits your needs. All software is accessed via download from Wacom's web site.

I am a photographer who has been wanting a tablet for some time. So I finally just bought this. I had heard how great these tablets were from a few others, so I was expecting it to be pretty great. However, when I got it out and started using it -- IT BLEW ME AWAY!!! It is SO AMAZING! I love the incredible sensitivity to pen pressure...being able to draw a hairline stroke up to as thick as my brush setting in one fluid movement is just awesome. And for me, one of the most useful abilities is to dodge/burn different parts of the picture by simply pushing harder/softer without having to mess with the exposure level. I am totally in love with this new tablet!!!
I also want to add this: this is my first tablet experience, but I found the Intuos 4 VERY EASY to customize, yet extremely versatile. I am amazed at just how custom it can really be.
I was also concerned about the fact that my monitor is not the same aspect ratio as the tablet, but it hasn't seemed to matter at all. What I draw is what I get.
I can't think of any negatives -- it is awesome.

3 things:
Drivers crash on Windows
Surface sheet is to rough
Replacement nibs are too soft and expensive.
Wacom may be waiting for the released of Intuos5 to solve the problems.
Customers are complaining on Wacom Customer Care Forums and signing petitions to Wacom CEO... but these are not working.
1 solution to 2 problems:
Let Wacom replace the surface sheet with the Intuos3 surface (not available after one year of petitions).
Or be prepared to wear-out nibs every week and stick a hand-made surface over your beautifull high-tech device.

Comments about Wacom Intuos4 Digital Tablet (Small):
I'm a fashion and beauty photographer, so I spend quite a bit of time retouching skin. Doing it with a mouse was alright, but having a tablet makes it so much easier and more precise. I'd compare it to trying to type your name on a keyboard with your chin, as opposed to using your fingers. Intricate details are so much easier to manage, and it just lends an entirely different look and feel to the finished image. Holding the pen is a lot gentler on my wrist, I found, when retouching for long periods of time. If you're serious about photoshop or retouching, you'll definitely want to consider adding this to your toolbox!

I replaced an Intuos2 tablet with the Intuos4. Much better tablet. Love the brush size and zoom ring with the function buttons. More sensitive then the Intuos2 and I love the hover position feature. The small is perfect for my working area. Also love the left or right hand user feature.

This is my first tablet...and I couldn't be happier with it! The small is just perfect! Ive been using it for precise editing in CS5 and drawing in illustrator! It was a breeze to load on my iMac. I did however have a problem getting the serials for the free software that is included, but one call to wacom and they sent them to me directly right as I was on the phone!

I use the tablet in conjunction with Photoshop and Lightroom. At first it takes a little time to get use to using it vice using the pad on my MAC Book Pro. Using the pen allows me to have greater control. The small Digital Tablet works for me.

Comments about Wacom Intuos4 Digital Tablet (Small):
I'm a graphic design student so I use this product everyday back and forth from home to school. I like the size of this tablet because I can just throw it in my backpack with ease and it takes up less space on my desk at school. I was skeptical at first of the small drawing area on the tablet and was contemplating between this one and the medium. But no worries I'm glad I went with the small, it has plenty of space for what I do. Awesome product.

Used for everything incl Photoshop, internet, Word. If your pointer finger hurts from too much mouse clicking, a tablet will save you. I've used tablets for all PC work for a decade. The smallest size is just fine with me. I dont use the smallest so it will also travel, i use it because its all i need. I had the Intous3 smallest for many years until i went to Win7. The Intous3 is squirrely with Win7.
