The Intuos4 Digital Tablet from Wacom is a digital tablet, designed for use by digital artists and photographers. Ideal for use with imaging applications such as Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop, the tablet allows you to manipulate images with a digital pen: ergonomically identical to a traditional ink pen.
The Intuos4 is capable of recording 2048 levels of pressure, giving it the ability to recognize extremely subtle pressure for light brush strokes. It features a bank of customizable ExpressKeys and a finger-sensitive Touch Ring for enhanced control. These controls are located on one side of the tablet, in a symmetrical layout. This allows you to rotate the tablet 180°, giving equal functionality to both lefties and righties.
US residents who purchase this tablet are entitled to additional software from Wacom. You can download Nik Color Efex Pro WE6 and Wacom Brushes 3.0, both of which require Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to function. You are also entitled to your choice of two out of the following three options: Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac & Windows, Autodesk SketchBook Express 2010, and Corel Painter Sketch Pad. This allows you to choose the software that best suits your needs. All software is accessed via download from Wacom's web site.

I am not sure why I never discovered Wacom Intuos tablets before, especially trying to learn Adobe Photoshop CS4. This is an awesome tool for Photoshop users. I am at about the stage of using $200 bucks worth of the $600 plus software, but the Intuos4 tablet is really making it easy to apply and learn Dodge, Burn, and brush tools, for example. This is so much better then using a mouse (but comes with one if you need it). The pen really helps with precision and feels much more natural in your hand then the mouse does giving you a much more precise ability to manipulate the tools within the photograph. I would highly recommend this to any Photoshop or Illustrator style software users. My only piece of advice here is pay close attention to the size of the tablet and its working area. Most people will probably want a medium. The small would be more compact for laptop users, and the larger models would likely be better for illustrators. The working area is mapped to your screen. The size of the work area and the precision of the movements of the pen should increase as the work area increases in each size.

I had trouble getting the tablet to work with my laptop and Windows 7. I went to Wacom's website for tech support and received an email the next day. I followed the instructions concerning the re-install of the driver and still no joy. The follow up email from Greg stated that the tablet should not be connected to a docking station or usb hub. I plugged the cable directly into the laptop and now it works fine. 5 stars to their tech support.

It's a great product all-around and a must for serious graphics work. The hot keys can be customized to really speed up workflow. The rotate ring is so convenient that I've almost stopped using analog (traditional) media and have gone to an all-digital workflow. The feel of the pen is comfortable for long hours at the tablet.
I'm a comic book artist and I'm a bit sad that I waited so long to upgrade to the Intuos4 (from the Graphire4). I was initially hesitant to buy such a costly tablet because I've heard horror stories about the nibs wearing down due to the textured surface. It's true, but using the flex nib really slows down the burn rate of the nibs and surface but retains the textured feel. The other nibs literally wear down after a day of hard use (i.e. painting in Photoshop), but the flex nib (which there is only one) hasn't worn down after weeks of hard use.
I highly recommend this product but I would also look at the new high-end Bamboo as an alternative for those who don't need hot keys or a rotate key.

As a textile designer the Wacom tablet is perfect for creating digital prints. The medium size is perfect to help with the natural free flow of the drawing hand. I can't believe I didn't order sooner. Originally I was interested in the wireless, but upon reading the reviews I refrained from the extra expense. Although the tablet has tobe plugged in, the wiring really isn't an issue.

All the buttons are customizable and it does everything I need...
I love the feature where the mouse works with the tablet, which eliminates the need of an Apple mouse... The mouse feels much better than an Apple mouse too. Does not strain your hand like an Apple mouse would do to you. It also came with the package!
Wacom decided to remove the mouse in the Intuos5 package, which is a driving decision why I chose to purchase the discontinued Intuos4.
I gave it a 4 star because of the bulkiness... I think there's a lot of wasted space on the tablet where the drawing area can be extended to... Or the physical size of the tablet can be reduced so it would not feel so bulky.

This opens up a whole new world of digital art and possibilities. It is easy to set up and start. Comes with great free software to get going and start creating. Remarkably well made with great detail in terms of functionality as well as finish. I reasearched a lot (for the last two years) and since I was just starting my serious journey into digital art this is what I ended up buying. Till now I had been trying to use a mouse, my fingers etc with very unsatisfactory results for my expectations. The lack of precise control necessary for details was my biggest problem and frustration. This Pen and tablet solved it wonderfully!
Since this is the only one I have and I have not yet used it as extensively as I plan to I cannot as yet judge wether this Medium size is more efficient and esier to work with than a Small sized one.
As yet I have found only one iritant which may be related to either the Wacom or the Corel Painter Scketchpad software. When using the Corel software that comes free with this Wacom the software snags at times as when trying to drag a palet across the page and so on. I feel it is the Corel software and not the Wacom.
This tablet is as big in size as my 15" MacBook Pro! So it's not that easy to transport. I was imagining going to Starbucks and painting there on occasion, well cancel that since it takes up a huge amount of space to set up and use. Imagine having two 15" laptops laid out on the table. Most Starbucks do not have that much table space available.
considering everything I would still say as of now this was Worth Every Penny!

Comments about Wacom Intuos4 Digital Tablet (Medium):
I use the tablet for editing photos in Photoshop. I've also just taken to using the tablet for navigating on my computer normally and haven't really used a mouse for the last month. The surface is silky smooth, all the buttons can be customized to do anything you want and the responsiveness is amazing. I wish I had gotten the wireless version but otherwise this is exactly what I needed.
The only problem that I had is I noticed the nibs tend to wear down somewhat quickly with heavy use. I'd say this first one will last me about 4 months but that's with rough use for 10 hours a day.

I use my Wacom tablet at work and at home, and I love it. As a Graphic Designer, my hands would hurt using a normal mouse all day, and with the Wacom Tablet my hands do not hurt. Also the sensitivity levels of the pen when using it in Photoshop are fantastic, I used it to sketch a drawing, it is just like drawing with a pencil. I have yet to find anything that I do not like about my Wacom Tablet.

Comments about Wacom Intuos4 Digital Tablet (Medium):
I haven't bought a new Wacom for a long time. I had an Intuos2 at home and a little experience with the Intuos3 at work. I never saw the point of upgrading. They all seemed pretty much the same as the original Intuos I had in college except with some added buttons. In fact, I usually turned off the annoying track pad buttons on the Intuos3 because I always hit them while working and zoomed in.
My Intous2 is getting kind of old and sometimes just stops working so it was time to upgrade. I watched some videos on the new features of the Intuos4 and was actually excited about the customizable buttons and the wheel. They finally seemed to actually be useful.
I got my tablet a couple weeks ago and set it up for Photoshop right away. I really like being able to use the wheel to select layers. That's probably the feature that's had the largest impact on my productivity. Also being able to set the other buttons to your own most used keystrokes and then label them to remember what they do is pretty great as well. I set mine up to include Step Forward and Step Backward, which seems to come in handy a lot when drawing on the tablet.
I also really dig the texture of the drawing surface on this newer model. All the Wacom's I've had in the past were like a slick shiny surface and I always felt like it lacked control. The new surface is like a velvet texture almost. It does a lot better at recreating the drag you get from pen on paper. I really like it.
I've done a few drawings in Photoshop so far with this new tablet and I finally feel like the new added features are really a step forward for the device.
My only criticism is that the plastic around the buttons, on the side, is super shiny and thus picks up fingerprints and smudges just by looking at it wrong. It looks nice in contrast with the matte texture of the rest of the device but I'd rather see something easier to keep clean.

Comments about Wacom Intuos4 Digital Tablet (Medium):
The tablet is great and performs as advertised. I've been using it while processing photographs in Lightroom and Photoshop. Using the pen takes a little getting used to since I've used a mouse for over 20 years. But that's my problem, not the tablet's.

I bought one of these and have been pleased with the ease of set-up, precise pointing capability and and comfort of using the device. Just be careful handling the product. This came with a very nice mouse that works on the tablet, but I dropped the mouse just one time, not that hard, and it broke. Replacement mouse is not covered by the manufacturer in my case, and getting a new one was over $60!

A real life-saver for my current project. Will come in handy for re-touching and more complex work, but not needed for simple re-size, levels and sharpening of photos. Enclosed instructions are not enough, does not show you much of anything except the very simplest of use. My Tablet came with several pen points but no instructions or guidance how to change tips or how to ID what the various tips are good for.

One of the main advantages of this model is its size. Do not chase the big tablets, the majority of illustrators they are inconvenient. This model is enough for me to draw illustrations for websites, social applications and games. I am happy with everything, an excellent choice.

I've been using the tablet to create illustrations in videos for my harp compositions. It's nice to have the control of a pen/pencil again giving me more control than a mouse or track pad could give me. The response is better than I expected. I like the ability to program the buttons on the side to the shortcuts I need. Now all I need to do is get my desk set up to comfortably accomodate both laptop and tablet.

This tablet works great. Very smooth to use. The size is great for any application and the shortcut are working great.
A couple of issues with the drivers (mac with lion) when you use it with multiple displays sometine the cursor dissepears and you might have to unplug it and replug it. Also, I've been using it for 1 month and the tip of the pen is already good to replace... I've been using it a lot (probably 250 hours) but still...
It's a real pleasure to retouch pictures with it.
I had a cheaper tablet before which was working ok but not great.
This one is really nice. You get what you are paying for. An expensive tablet (yes it's a little pricy) but very nice !
