My old samsung dvd/vhs player broke and I needed a replacement. There are a lot of combo players on the market, but this was the only one I found that played blue-ray/dvd and vhs tapes -- and also transmits using hdmi (though you do need to buy your own cable, one is not included). HDMI was a big upgrade for me -- I've been missing out on a lot!
What I notice in this unit is the much better build quality than in the samsung. The remote is more solid, the feel of the thing is more solid. The user interface on screen is a little confusing at first, but it's actually quite powerful once you know the features. Also, you can hook this up to your router to get firmware/software updates to make sure you're using the latest and greatest. That, my friends, is pretty cool.

I still need another box to record David Letterman's Late Show !!???? I thought the trend was to decrease the number of boxes in the viewing room!
At this time, Panasonic does not offer any video recorder with Blu-ray player on American market!
what a pitty Panasonic!

Comments about Panasonic DMP-BD70VK Blu-ray Disc/VHS Combo Player:
I bought the 1st one due to the combo of VHS and blue-ray. After 6 months, I liked it enough to buy two more for the other rooms. Now we can play our VHS, DVD's and Blue-ray anywhere and have the convenience of them all working the same. They all three worked well out of the box and am very pleased so far.

Comments about Panasonic DMP-BD70VK Blu-ray Disc/VHS Combo Player:
Personal use. All of the functions work the way I want. I bought an extra network cable to see how the online video worked, but I wasn't impressed with the programing. Wish that I could download from where I want. But, that's not what I got for and it does everything I want it to do.

Comments about Panasonic DMP-BD70VK Blu-ray Disc/VHS Combo Player:
This unit was very easy to setup. The only time I referred to the manual was to get the tv code for programming the remote control.
It has a user friendly gui interface that makes it very easy to navigate. And you can control all functions including tv volume via the single remote control.
I connected the player to my network to take advantage of the built-in widgets which allows you to view weather (customized to my local), you tube, and others.
I like that this unit plays both blu-ray, dvds and VHS tapes as we have an extensive library of VHS tapes that the kids still watch.
I would recommend this product!

This product is great if you have different media formats. I am surprised no one has come up with this idea sooner. The VCR picture could be clearer but that is probably due to our being use to blue ray movies. Too bad they cant up convert them.

I use it of course for Blu-ray video. Works wonderful. Another great feature is that I can also play all my old VHS tapes with this unit. Hook up was easy. Just connected the HDMI cable and "walla" there it was. Of course the TV is a Panasonic with the Viera feature.
