The Pentax K2000 SLR Digital Camera brings legendary Pentax image quality to the next generation of digital photographers in a compact, easy to use package. Perfect for photo enthusiasts or first time DSLR owners, the K2000 incorporates the latest imaging technology to capture stunning 10.2 megapixel photos at up to 3.5 frames per second. A built-in Help Button provides users with a clear explanation of all controls and settings and even offers insight into the fundamentals of photography. Advanced Shake Reduction and high ISO capability compensate for unwanted camera shake to always yield the best image quality possible.

The camera's Auto Picture and Scene modes offer shooting ease, while advanced modes, such as the new Sensitivity Priority (Sv), allow photographers to grow with the camera. All of these impressive features are controlled by the Pentax PRIME image processing engine, which maximizes image properties and allows custom adjustment of individual image parameters.

Dust Reduction and Dust Alert features eliminate the need for time consuming retouching, and the camera's 2.7 inch high resolution, wide-view LCD panel allows for easy review of pictures and parameters with simple to read, large-sized menu lettering. All of these features and more are housed in an ultra-compact and lightweight body that's as easy to use as it is to carry.

10.2 Megapixel Resolution
The K2000 features a large, APS-C size (23.5 x 15.7mm) CCD sensor to produce beautiful, true-to-life images with rich color and fine detail.
Ultra-compact, Lightweight & Durable
The compact and lightweight design of the K2000 makes it perfect for the photographer transitioning from a point-and-shoot to a digital SLR. With easy one-handed operation, the body is comfortable to hold and easy to carry. Despite its compact size, the K2000 is still a robust camera with a tactile, purposeful build.
Advanced Shake Reduction Technology
The Pentax Shake Reduction (SR) System is an electromagnetically controlled stabilizer built into the body to ensure shake-free photos with any lens. Unlike traditional two-way stabilization systems, SR compensates for movement in three directions--horizontal, vertical, and rotational. By detecting handheld camera shake, sharpness is dramatically increased when using telephoto lenses, working under low light conditions or in any instance where unwanted shake may affect a photograph.
Compatible with All Pentax Interchangeable Lenses
Over the last 60 years, Pentax has manufactured over 25 million lenses. The K2000 can use them all. The camera provides backward compatibility with K, KA, KAF and KAF2 mount lenses directly and is also compatible with screw-mount 35mm-format lenses and Pentax 645 and 67 system lenses with optional adapters. Whichever lens you choose, be assured that your photos will show the warmth, style, and beauty of the Pentax optical system.
Dedicated Help Button
No manual? No problem. The dedicated Help Button on the K2000 gives you one touch access to simple explanations of all controls and settings. Perfect for first time DSLR users, this unique feature even offers insight into the fundamentals of photography.
Powered by AA Batteries
The K2000 is powered by 4x AA Batteries and is fully compatible with single use lithium and alkaline type batteries as well as rechargeable NiMH type batteries. Fresh AA lithium batteries will provide enough power to capture 1650 images (or over 500 images with flash use 50% of the time), and can provide about 700 minutes of playback time. Plus, AA power can be found anywhere in the world, making the K2000 travel friendly.

This camera has everything I could ever use. The only thing that I would even consider would be higher resolution, but 10mp is enough for what I do.

Comments about Pentax K2000 Digital SLR Camera:

I wanted a compact, affordable, AA-battery powered, body-only SLR for travel and outdoor use. This camera fits the bill. The pictures have been great; fast startup; no shutter lag (as compared with a compact point-and-shoot); wide range of automatic and manual settings.

      Quality entry for DSLR photographer

      By Mac the Shutterbug

Comments about Pentax K2000 Digital SLR Camera:

Plusses: it's compatible with lenses (even the old ones), so I didn't have to buy any new lenses for the camera. Just put on the lens, learn a little bit about the photo modes and how to get to the controls, and away you go. It takes vivid pictures, although it's also very demanding--there's not a bunch of mercy for the inexperienced photographer. It's great for me, but it drives my fiancee crazy because she doesn't know the basics of old school photo physics.Minuses: compared to a 35mm SLR, there's a lot of stuff that's not a button or a knob; you need to navigate through menus, choose the right setting, find your way back, and take the shot (if you don't go with full-automatic mode, which has advantages and disadvantages). Also, the onboard flash bleaches human skin significantly. Get a mounting flash for the hotshoe port... it will leave folks' skin tones looking far more balanced.I love the camera for a variety of purposes. I don't have multiple cameras; I just use it for everything: day, night, indoor, outdoor, still lifes, action shots, and portraits. It's quite the value considering it's roughly [$] and everything else starts between $800 and $1000! For those who know their SLR work and have some Pentax equipment from the past, it's a great step. Four and a half stars.

Comments about Pentax K2000 Digital SLR Camera:

I use this camera for product photography on my webiste, taking landscape, wildlife, and family snapshots as well as a travel camera.

I purchased the 360 Pentax flash, veiw finder magnifier and the Pentax DA 18-250 lens. On one of my first outings with the camera, I took a local landscape shot and submitted it to my local paper- they published it! - on the front page!

I had tried a K20D for a few weeks prior to the K2000. I changed my mind and went with the K2000 and couldn't be happier.

I haven't used the scene modes, but they're there if I decide to try them.

Comments about Pentax K2000 Digital SLR Camera:

I use the camers for landscapes, sporting events etc. Not a bad camera. I have a Pentax Program Plus that's about 20 years old and still works perfectly, so I expect the K2000 to be around a long time also. It's well built and has very good ergonomic controls. Pentax may not be as expensive as Cannon or Nikon, but I can tell you that at least for the non-professional,Pentax makes a quality product for a reasonable price and you'll be happy with it for years.

Comments about Pentax K2000 Digital SLR Camera:

This camera is a good deal for the money. If you want to do night photography, this is probably not the best choice due to the lack of a cable release receptacle. However, an IR remote can still be used. I've heard bad things about the JPEGs, but this was a nil issue for me since I shoot almost completely in RAW.

So far, the camera has still performed fine. It's break-in run was a 2 day excursion to the Altoona to shoot a special event, and the camera performed admirably. I missed NO shots due to the camera, and I was extremely IMPRESSED by the quality of the photos.
