This camera has everything I could ever use. The only thing that I would even consider would be higher resolution, but 10mp is enough for what I do.
All the features are easy to access and even easier to

I wanted a compact, affordable, AA-battery powered, body-only SLR for travel and outdoor use. This camera fits the bill. The pictures have been great; fast startup; no shutter lag (as compared with a compact point-and-shoot); wide range of automatic and manual settings.
Comments about Pentax K2000 Digital SLR Camera:
Plusses: it's compatible with lenses (even the old ones), so I didn't have to buy any new lenses for the camera. Just put on the lens, learn a little bit about the photo modes and how to get to the controls, and away you go. It takes vivid pictures, although it's also very demanding--there's not a bunch of mercy for the inexperienced photographer. It's great for me, but it drives my fiancee crazy because she doesn't know the basics of old school photo physics.Minuses: compared to a 35mm SLR, there's a lot of stuff that's not a button or a knob; you need to navigate through menus, choose the right setting, find your way back, and take the shot (if you don't go with full-automatic mode, which has advantages and disadvantages). Also, the onboard flash bleaches human skin significantly. Get a mounting flash for the hotshoe port... it will leave folks' skin tones looking far more balanced.I love the camera for a variety of purposes. I don't have multiple cameras; I just use it for everything: day, night, indoor, outdoor, still lifes, action shots, and portraits. It's quite the value considering it's roughly [$] and everything else starts between $800 and $1000! For those who know their SLR work and have some Pentax equipment from the past, it's a great step. Four and a half stars.

I use this camera for product photography on my webiste, taking landscape, wildlife, and family snapshots as well as a travel camera.
I purchased the 360 Pentax flash, veiw finder magnifier and the Pentax DA 18-250 lens. On one of my first outings with the camera, I took a local landscape shot and submitted it to my local paper- they published it! - on the front page!
I had tried a K20D for a few weeks prior to the K2000. I changed my mind and went with the K2000 and couldn't be happier.
I haven't used the scene modes, but they're there if I decide to try them.

Comments about Pentax K2000 Digital SLR Camera:
I use the camers for landscapes, sporting events etc. Not a bad camera. I have a Pentax Program Plus that's about 20 years old and still works perfectly, so I expect the K2000 to be around a long time also. It's well built and has very good ergonomic controls. Pentax may not be as expensive as Cannon or Nikon, but I can tell you that at least for the non-professional,Pentax makes a quality product for a reasonable price and you'll be happy with it for years.

Comments about Pentax K2000 Digital SLR Camera:
This camera is a good deal for the money. If you want to do night photography, this is probably not the best choice due to the lack of a cable release receptacle. However, an IR remote can still be used. I've heard bad things about the JPEGs, but this was a nil issue for me since I shoot almost completely in RAW.
So far, the camera has still performed fine. It's break-in run was a 2 day excursion to the Altoona to shoot a special event, and the camera performed admirably. I missed NO shots due to the camera, and I was extremely IMPRESSED by the quality of the photos.
