Gitzo GM3340L 4-Section Aluminum Monopod - Supports 39.6 lbs (18kg)
The Gitzo GM3340L Monopod is a classic aluminum Series 3 offering, made for use with larger gear such as a 300mm f/2.8 lens with SLR, flash bracket, etc. Fit and finish are exemplary, and you should expect nothing less from the industry's finest brand.
At its 5'1" maximum height, the GM3340L will put an SLR's viewfinder just at the eye level for the average user; if you're particularly tall or need to shoot above crowds, consider instead the GM3350XL model.
Gitzo's made changes to their aluminum, and it is now 30% lighter than previous Gitzo models of the same size. The 1.2mm thick tubing is finished in a brushed matte black, and it now sports Gitzo's "ALR" anti-rotation design for their locks so that you can deploy and retract the monopod quicker than ever.
Gitzo's GM3340L has a built-in combination wrist strap and belt clip, which allows you to hang your 'pod on your belt or pocket when you need both your hands.

Wanted a lightweight but sturdy monopod that would work for wildlife and action photos and this one fit the bill. This one is rock solid and opens quickly so you don't miss the shot. It was more expensive than what I originally wanted to spend, but it is definitely worth it. This is my first Gitzo product but it won't be my last.

Have been using it regularly and no complaints. Sturdy enough for my camera with a 300 2.8 lens, and easy to adjust the length. Wish it were a little bit lighter, but that model is more $$$, couldn't justify that cost for the weight difference. This is an excellent monopod.

Decided that if I was going to buy a monopod I had better get a well-made solid one now rather than later after working through one or two flimsy brands. This model has the height I needed; the right number of sections and the twist locks are solid when tightened. The leg sections are a large diameter which gives it stability and the top plate has a well designed, reversible screw fitting so there are no thread adapters to lose. I figure that as I migrate to larger and heavier lenses in the years ahead, this will be more than adequate for them. The name on the carrying strap says it all.

The primary use will be with a somewhat large medium form digital system (H3DII39 with two heavy lenses)....this camera system is very sensitive to movement, so with this much weight, handheld often will not achieve the IQ that is possible..
This monopod opens and adjusts quickly, is secure, and is comfortable to handle...I had a different brand previously, and now know I should have bought Gitzo monopod to mate with my Gitzo tripod...

This monopod is great. As a professional sports photographer I use it to hold my 400 2.8 and it is able to fully support the load. The twist locks go in to place quickly and easily and the movement is extremely smooth. Additionally, as the thread is actual size rather than the variable size used in Manfrotto branded products the lens is safely attached to the mount. This is a great option for those who don't want or need carbon fiber and is something I highly recommend. For a sports photographer the fact that it has four sections is great since I can use it standing (I'm 6'4) or sitting with only part of the first section extended. A great monopod and a highly recommended purchase for all.

This is a great monopod for the price. I purchased this because I needed something reliable to support my 400 2.8 lens. All the guys at Sports Illustrated use Gitzo and recommended the brand. Having the option to switch between small and big threads is a plus. The locking mechanism is very secure and does not have room to give.
