WOW! What an amazing piece of equipment. Honestly, I've owned it for about a week now (been taking pictures of the family dog, my mother, and a Tickle Me Elmo X that I got several years ago for Christmas). It works amazingly as both commander and receiver flash. I like the fact that it zooms so you can change it and set it so it has a nice wide flash or a really pinpoint flash. It also has a modeling light option which is very handy.
It is very lightweight but not featherweight. I also enjoy using it on the little stand supplied with it. Finally I love, love, love having the miniature soft box on it when using it for portraits, the softness of the light is to die for and really brings out those shadowy areas of the face.
When used as receiver flash it works just as well and can really enhance your photos.
Recycle time of 3.5 on FULL power is very quick and on par with some of the Nikon brand flashes. I also enjoy that it tilts AND swivels.

Bought it as a less expensive option to SB900.
Had the flash for two weeks, checked all modes including wireless with D300s and two SB600s. Flash fireing stopped working while the LCD display still operates fine. I suspect it may have something to do with rotating and tilting the flash head too many times(weak flex connections).
Tried "test" button, wirelessly, on-camera. No flash firing. Returned for exchange. If you are in Canada it becomes costly. Still waiting for replacement unit so cannot comment on the final cost.
Otherwise, whatever time I had to use it,
TTL exposure seems correct, even with Sigma (for Nikon) lenses.
Very easy to navigate through menus, color LCD screen helps in identifying active mode from a distance (wireless mode). The second, built-in fill flash, very usefull for bounce flash photography and macro. Having option for firmware upgrade is good feature too.
Overall gives the "toyish" impression (lightly built loud zoom motor, weak hot shoe mount even though flash itself is powerfull.

Comments about Nissin Di866 Digital Flash For Nikon D-SLRs, & Coolpix Hot Shoe Cameras:
I found myself volunteered to shoot my nieces wedding and figured it was time to buy a flash. I have always shot natural light so was a bit nervous, but without any research I took it out of the box, mounted it and started shooting on the automatic setting. With fresh batteries the refresh time was fast and I didn't miss a shot. I shot with a NIkon D80, jpeg-fine and my only regret is that I should have done battery changes more often, the minute the refresh rate get noticeably slower.

Love it. Never even thought to get anything other than a nikon brand flash but I'm glad that I did. It's a little light on the plastic so the construction doesn't feel as solid but it works great. It does make a bit of a loud noise which is alarming at first but it doesn't affect the performance.

I use it mainly as a bouncer flash off camera, but it works equally as well on camera.
It has very easy to use menus, and overall is an amazing flash
My only qualm is that the recycle time is a little slow

Comments about Nissin Di866 Digital Flash For Nikon D-SLRs, & Coolpix Hot Shoe Cameras:
I only gave this flash a 4 star rating because i have not fully tested it out, but I like what I see so far. The controls are far easier to access than my camera makers flash and compared to that flash is it about $200 less expensive.
The first time I used it was in Av mode and my camera in manual and I got great exposures. I also like that I do not have to push a button in order to rotate the flash like other flash.
It also works well with Nikon CLS.
One of the best features is that you can access the menu rather easily and the display rotates as the flash rotates so when the flash is sideways instead of straight up and down, the menu display also is sideways.

Comments about Nissin Di866 Digital Flash For Nikon D-SLRs, & Coolpix Hot Shoe Cameras:
I've had this for about 3 months now and I'm very please with this purchase. Simple to use with my D80. I just leave it on auto for a consitently great shot. I could not be happier with this flash. I've used it mostly for indoor sports and it can light our entire dimly lit highschool gym. For close up shots with 320/f2.8 and iso600 this can get a couple low output flashes for continous shooting.

This flash is used on my Nikon D80. It is working great and has greatly improved my pictures. I was nervous about not buying a Nikon flash but now I am very pleased. I think it is a great value. It is slightly noisy but that is not a big deal for me. I believe most people would be very happy with this flash.

Great value, functions as well as or better than Nikon's SB800 (which are hard to find now) for half the price of Nikon's latest (SB900) with my Nikon D200.
Works with my Nikon SB600 as either master or remote.
The recycling is a little slower, but I have yet to try it with some good rechargeable batteries.

Works well with my Nikon SB-800's. Perfect size, between an SB-800 and a SB-900. Excellent price, I purchased 4 from B&H. For a more complete evaluation see my article "Can the Nissin Di866 Speedlight give the Nikon SB-900 Speedlight a run for the money?" at http://photos4clix[@]/?p=767

I am new to photography Semi/pro and did allot of reserch online about flash units and did not have the funds for the more expensive Nikon unit so I settled for this. Man I am glad I did it did everything and more and made me look like a pro my first shoot out.I was truly amazed by how easy it was to use and setup. I do recommend getting rechargeable batteries.

I've been using the Di866 for only 2 days but it has performed very well. Every bit the equal of my old Nikon SB-25 / N90s rig. The wireless setup was simple and worked great w/my D90.

Haven't been able to trust flashes on digital cameras for years. Finally this one works right! Easy to read graphics - and they "right side" whether you are holding the camera on landscape or portrait! The fill flash (or Sub flash) is a great asset when shooting indoors and using bounce flash - you get two on this flash.
I shot a business Open House in a cavernous room but was able to get light all the way across a 150' room with 18' ceilings! Then turn around and group shot at 8' with very nice results.
A tad slow on recycle time but consistent thru 180 shots.

Great flash completely compatible with Fuji S5 at almost half the cost of Nikon model sb900. You won't go wrong with this flash. I plan on buying one for my canon lineup as well. The battery system is the best I have seen, it uses a cartridge system and easy loading. Only concern is in high output the cycle time seems a little sluggish but is still okay
