Comments about Focal Press The Steadicam Operator's Handbook (Paperback):
This book is a must if you are starting out with the Steadicam. I just bought a Pilot and while waiting for the next workshop in my area, I have learned enough to get me started from this book. Very well written.

Comments about Focal Press The Steadicam Operator's Handbook (Paperback):
Bought this to go with a Steadicam Pilot I purchased. I'm a pro-videographer and wanted to make the most of my Steadicam and learn how to fly the camera properly.
This book is excellent. It's written by two pro steadicam operators and is easy to follow and very well illustrated.
Features loads of exercises that help you get the feel for the unit as well as some very candid discussions of Steadicam shots in films you would have seen (both good and bad comments are included)
There are also anecdotes from other "famous" Steadicam operators which give you a real insight into what it takes to work in the industry.
But for the most part it's information on how to set up a steadicam, how to fly it in a variety of situations from basic to very challenging, how to be fit, what to do what not to do etc.
It focuses on the Flyer sized Steadicams and larger but I have had no problem applying it to the Pilot.
I highly recommend this book to anyone serious about Steadicam operating.

Comments about Focal Press The Steadicam Operator's Handbook (Paperback):
This is the best single resource for operators that I've come across. Loads of photos, diagrams, and examples complement the text. The book is written with a style that is simple to follow and comprehend. I picked up more tricks and tips in the first 20 pages than I'd know previously.
