The military-specification Newcon Optik 8x30 AN Military Binocular is favored by special operations and law enforcement units, but also makes a good universal binocular at a reasonable weight.  This unit's individual focusing system allows you to set it to your eyes once and enjoy depth of field from 60' (18 m) to infinity, without need of any readjustment.  There is a comfortable 17mm of eye relief, and the 8x30 AN M22 is tested to withstand substantial shock and moisture impact.  It is a no-nonsense utilitarian 8x midsize that's stocky and easy to hold.
