This Manfrotto 5001B Nano Retractable Compact Light Stand is perfect for supporting small light fixtures on location. The stand folds down to ~19 inches, which makes it easy to fit into a location case.
Since it has five sections, support strength is maintained as the fixture is raised; most of the column remains inside the main shaft. It has a black anodized finish.
This stand replaces 001B, 3373 and 3353. It has a 5/8" top stud, topped by a 3/8" thread, which is topped by a removable 1/4"-20 threaded top.

I bought this stand because of its compactness and lightness. The stand is great for on-location work when space is a premium and/or need a stand with smaller footprint. It is also fairly effective as a boom as an assistant can easily hold it because it is lightweight.
Because it is so light and compact, don't expect to load with heavy lighting equipment or accessories. Also, be aware that the stand is NOT air-cushioned, so when loosening sections they could slam down.

David Hobby and Bob Krist fervently endorse this compact - but flimsy - light stand; sorry, but I can't. The basic assets of portability and compactness frustratingly overridden by jello-like stability during adjustments, which means waiting... and waiting for the "tensile wavering" to subside before you can continue shooting. Why make that sort of compromise, unless excessive girth the ONLY concern?
If you barely touch your lights, or don't extend much beyond the middle range of the stand's maximum height, go for it. It's still decently constructed, with good mechanicals, but too petite to inspire much expectation at taller extension, at least with an umbrella on board. Strobe-only use may be acceptable to most.

I just began using the stand and am impressed with how easy it is to use and how little space it takes. I found this recommendation in Syl Arena's "Speedlighting Handbook" and it looks like it is just the right product for my needs.

Comments about Manfrotto 5001B Nano Black Light Stand - 6.2' (1.9m):
Very light weight, very portable, but because its designed as a portable lightstand, its not very sturdy. Its a very common dilema, if you want a very sturdy stand dont buy this but dont expect its gonna be this portable. Dont forget to buy the bracket.

Small and works well for holding off shoe flash. Folds small and yet comes up high enough for most jobs.

Comments about Manfrotto 5001B Nano Black Light Stand - 6.2' (1.9m):
It's light, folds to a tiny size, and it fits in my luggage and isn't a hassle to carry around town for the times I just need to put a remote flash somewhere or stand up an LED light for a quick interview.
Because it's so light, it also is easy to knock over, but that is the trade-off. I carry a safety cable and attach it to stationary objects when needed.
I'm just glad this Manfrotto Nano stand exists. It's a quality stand, super compact, and goes everywhere with me.

I got 2 of these to go with my Elinchrom Quadra set on location. I needed stands that could easily fit into my luggage. I was very surprised at how small they are folded up. When extended, they are very sturdy (just don't use them in the wind with an umbrella or anything). I'm happy with this purchase!

At first I did not think much of this little stand however, after using it for a week I got three more. They are a great little stand for a portable studio and where space is limited. I mount the Nikon D900 on them.

Portable enough to stow in my tripod back lighting back. I can set it low enough to use to light up the back wall behind an interviewee for video, or I can set it high enough for a seated subject. It's a decent stand.
I use it with either a Lowel Pro-Light or Rifa EX44.

I got one of these nano stands over a year ago when I started doing more destination wedding coverage. It actually even fits in my carry-on luggage!
As a petite gal, I just found it impossible to lug full-sized gear everywhere and I'm not ready to sacrifice beautiful off-camera lighting for my clients, so the Nano has been an elegant portable solution.
Now you couldn't pry it out of my cold dead hands... or gear bag. I just bought two more last week and plan on adding another shortly so my husband can stock his bag with them too.

I needed some lightweight pack-able travel stands and these fit the bill perfectly. Small enough to fit inside my carry-on and big enough for a speedlight and umbrella. Great for location work!

Comments about Manfrotto 5001B Nano Black Light Stand - 6.2' (1.9m):
I purchased this knowing full well that others had commented that is is so lightweight they would not use it with any lights other than flash units, so I'm not dissatisfied with this aspect of it.
It is tiny, lightweight and portable. SUPER easy to set up and works well with my Nikon flash units with an umbrella setup. I did try to put a monolight on it just to see HOW flimsy it felt... and it felt pretty unstable. But I really, really love how portable and quick this thing is. I plan to purchase another.

I actually use the stand for field work in my profession, not as a light stand. It is a fantastically durable stand that looks good is compact and easy to transport. The stand gets to a great height and actually goes taller than I need, it is light-weight and easy to secure for leaving out unattended. This is the best stand I have found in over a decade of experience.

When I received this stand in the mail, I couldn't believe how compact it was. This stand folds up very compact, and it is very light weight. I've used this stand several times in the past month and a half and it goes every where with me.
It's such a useful stand and does a good job holding a 430EXII flash and a 32" umbrella. Setup is a breeze and the feel of stand is impressive for the price you pay. I'd highly recommend this stand to anyone that is looking for a light weight strobist stand.
